Newnan, Ga. (August 4, 2011)—On July 29, 2011, PAPP Clinic joined Piedmont Physicians Group. PAPP Clinic, which signed an exclu-sive letter of intent to pursue an affiliation with Piedmont Healthcare in February, is a multi-specialty physician group with six loca-tions, 37 physicians in 11 medical specialties, and close to 250 employees. Prior to joining PAPP, Piedmont Physicians Group currently

PAPP Clinic and Piedmont Physicians Form Partnership

had 11 office locations in Coweta County with 18 primary care physicians and specialists.

“Since 1919, Papp Clinic and its physi-cians have developed a deep understanding of the healthcare needs of this community,” said Stan W. Smith, M.D., president of PAPP Clinic. “Together as part of Piedmont Physi-cians Group, we will continue to provide the

quality care we are known for and work to-wards shaping the future of healthcare for area residents.”

Since early 2007 when Piedmont Health-care welcomed Piedmont Newnan Hospital to its family of providers, Piedmont has worked to grow and expand hospital and physician services, improving healthcare access and op-tions for community members closer to home. With construction on a new hospital facility on Poplar Road at I-85, Piedmont Newnan Hospital leadership anticipates opening by spring 2012.

“Quality healthcare closer to home is a common goal of both Piedmont Physicians Group and the PAPP Clinic,” said Berney Crane, president and chief executive officer for Piedmont Medical Care Corporation, the administrative parent company of Piedmont Physicians Group. “The PAPP Clinic partner-ship combines the best of both our organiza-tions and is sure to play a vital role in pro-viding for the daily healthcare needs for this community for many years to come.”

Physicians at PAPP Clinic are now seeing new patients and accept most major insur-ance plans.

The Coweta Shopper reserves the right to accept or reject any advertising as we feel is in the best interest of our publication.

The other day I saw an ad in the newspaper by one of the banks located in our community. It was touting the merits of “mo-

bile banking”. Via text, web, or phone app, you can check your balance, pay your bills or transfer money – anywhere, anytime! This must be a wonderful thing for busy people on the go. If I had the dexterity to text, or owned a device which had some sort of app(lication?), I may want to go that route, too. It does, however, seem somewhat impersonal, as I would probably be known at the bank as #E64611JW.

The computer may even decide to “get personal” with me and add “Mr.” in front of those numbers.

One of the pleasures of doing busi-ness in Coweta County is being welcomed into a frequently visited establishment where the employ-ees know me by name. At the bank, for instance, I like to say “hello” to the friendly people working there. We know each other from many years of business relationship and they feel almost like family to me. Scott Wilson, Founder of Bank of Coweta, used to star in his own TV commercials saying something like, “Courtesy, good manners and friendly service have not gone out of style at our bank”. His positive and encouraging personal-ity must have rubbed off on his employees because, after about 40 years or so, the attitude there remains the same. And it’s not just BOC. Most well run companies know the value of personal relationships; whether a bank, restaurant, dry cleaners, auto mechanic or retail store. Friendly service creates value and gets (and keeps) customers.

So, inasmuch as I understand the value of modern technology in service companies, I think I’ll keep on going, in person, with my little deposits and payments, saying “how are you?” to the familiar faces I know. It also gives me a chance to leave the latest copy of The Coweta Shopper and maybe catch up on some of the news around town.

Until next time, I am,

(Mr.) E64611JW

As always, I invite your comments and suggestions to help us make The Coweta Shopper an interesting and effective advertising medium.

and friendly service have not

gone out of style… ”

Sun Sense: Tips For Sensitive Skin(NAPSI)—A smart way to save your own skin, experts say, is to stay out of the sun.

While too much ultraviolet light can be bad for anyone, leading to sunburn, premature aging and skin cancer, for people with sensitive skin or rosacea the sun can quickly become a real nightmare. Rosacea is a chronic inflam-matory condition that can be triggered to flare up by the heat.

In fact, a survey by the National Rosacea Society found that 81 percent of pa-tients said sun exposure was their number 1 trigger. Daily sun protection is a must for any skin type, but people with rosacea should be especially vigilant. Researchers found that when they questioned rosacea patients about their skin, patients reported significantly higher rates of blistering sunburns.

A condition commonly confused with sunburn or acne, rosacea is estimated to affect more than 16 million Americans. It is often characterized by persis-tent facial redness, blemishes and bumps that appear on the forehead, nose and cheeks. Although rosacea can affect anyone, people over age 30 with fair skin and a family history are most at risk.

Expert Advice

Debra B. Luftman, M.D., a nationally recognized dermatologist based in Beverly Hills and co-author of “The Beauty Prescription,” says that proper skin care is an important measure to protect rosacea sufferers from the se-vere redness and irritation often associated with sun exposure. She recom-mends the following:

• Tip No. 1: Always wear a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB protection) sun-screen with an SPF of 30 or higher, no matter what your skin color or the time of year. Some sunscreens can sting or burn, so talk to your dermatolo-gist about a gentle option for your sensitive skin.

• Tip No. 2: In hot weather, your skin can produce more oil, but you still need to use mild products that don’t strip moisture. Also, stay away from ton-ers, which can be too harsh for skin with rosacea. To remove perspiration, dirt and makeup on hot days, wash your face twice a day with a soap-free, nonabrasive cleanser using your hands or a soft cloth. The key is to use a cleanser that won’t cause additional irritation to the skin, as can some scrubs or heavily fragranced face washes.

• Tip No. 3: Even though warm days may tempt you to stay out later and lon-ger, be sure to get adequate sleep, which not only reduces stress-a common rosacea trigger-but also allows your skin time to rejuvenate.

• Tip No. 4: Especially in warm weather when rosacea flare-ups can be at their worst, talk to a dermatologist about your symptoms. While there is no cure for rosacea, proper treatment can make it manageable. There are sev-eral Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatments available to help reduce the inflammatory lesions of rosacea. Dr. Luftman commonly prescribes a topical gel called METROGEL® 1% for the bumps and blem-ishes of rosacea, but a dermatologist will determine which treatment is best for you.

For more information about rosacea, visit www.MetroGel.com or your local dermatologist.

Most successful businesses have one or two key employees who make doing business with them a special pleasure. Personal Banker, Rachel Hood enjoys that reputation at The Bank of Coweta’s main branch in Newnan. Her job is to welcome new customers with help in opening accounts, and assist and help solve problems for both new and existing bank customers.

“I enjoy meeting new people and helping my regular customers on a daily basis”, says Rachel. She has been with Bank of Coweta for 18 years, but has about 40 years experience in banking.

Rachel is married to Joey Hood, who works as an electrician for the county school system. She has two stepsons, four grandchildren and a great nephew. “They are the joy of my life”. They are members of the East Newnan Baptist Church where Rachel has attended since childhood. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, and making baby quilts. Joey and she are also big NASCAR fans!

Publishers note: I have depended on Rachel Hood for many years for my banking needs. She is always willing and able to help me transfer funds, open or close an account or “just tell me if I have any money left to transfer”! When my granddaughter, Anna, needs her money transferred for college tuition, we say, “We’ll have to talk with Rachel about that”. She is truly a pleasure to work

with, as are the other friendly employees at the Bank of Coweta.

Replacingand Updating

“I now my carpet, counter-tops and fixtures are dated and need replacing, but I’ll just give the buyer credit for that. Anyway, how do I know that I will be making the right replacement choices for the next owner?”

Back in the good ole days, when real estate was selling like hot cakes, all that was required to attract a buyer was to have a clean and neat house. To say that real estate has changed over the last 4 years is an understatement. Now, we’re all talking about “staging” and updating our houses in order to get them sold. As a seller, it’s difficult to wrap ones head around the fact that you may have to spend some money in order to sell your property. You’re seeing dollars signs being subtract-ed from your bottom line.

If you are thinking this … what do you think a buyer is thinking? If they see that light fixtures, carpet, etc. need to be replaced, all they see are dollar signs roll-ing around in their head.

By the time a buyer has paid the down payment, closing cost and moving expenses, there usually isn’t any money left to spend on updating a property. “However, the house down the street has a similar plan and it’s already been updated … let buy that one! We can move right in”!

The days of “I’ll just give them credit for the updates” are over. If you CAN find a buyer that is willing to make the changes, they are usually looking for a “good deal” and will make a low ball offer to compensate for the expenses of updating. The offer will be much lower than it would have cost you to make the changes yourself. You lose!

As for making the correct replacement choices … talk to your agent or have a staging consultation to get the advice needed to make the right choice. A home staging consultation is usually around $150 - $275. Why risk having your house sit on the market while other updated houses around you are selling?

Newest Residential Communities with Available

New Home Inventory

Reynolds Signature Communities announced Prudential Georgia Realty New Homes Division will market and sell its two new Fayette County com-munities: The Canoe Club, a 600-acre community with 350 one-acre wood-ed homesites, 52 acres of water, and 58 acres of greenspace; and Haddon-stone, a community of 53 one-acre homesites along tree-lined streets, with a two-acre fishing pond, and 62-acre nature preserve.

The Canoe Club fea-tures a Preferred Builder Group consisting of Beck-er Homes, David Weekley Homes, New Leaf Homes, and Peachtree Residential Properties; while Had-donstone features Becker Homes and New Leaf Homes. Prudential Agents Kristen Cunningham and Verkina Parrish represent Becker Homes and New Leaf Homes in both com-munities, and are based in The Canoe Club’s Sales Center, located in the newly-completed, 5,500-square-foot clubhouse.

“With Prudential’s renowned new home sales ex-perience in the Atlanta market, strong local presence in Fayette County, and seasoned agents, we are well-poised to successfully market and sell homes in The Canoe Club and Haddonstone,” said Jason Wingfield, General Manager of Reynolds Signature Communities. “In fact, we invite the community to tour our decorat-ed model and completed homes at our upcoming Had-donstone Open House on Saturday, August 27.”

Legal Briefs: Bill Stemberger

The term premises liability is a broad one and in Georgia encompasses a number of dif-ferent types of cases. These cases fall into the categories of slip & fall, trip & fall, negligent security, and nuisance causes. Today’s article is reviewing the areas of slip & fall and trip & fall. It should first be noted that just because you fell on somebody’s property in Georgia, it does not mean that it was legally their fault. For example, Georgia has the open and obvious doctrine which means that if you tripped over a large pallet that was easily visible, chances are the property owner would not be at fault.

The second issue to consider is the legal status of the injured person. A trespasser onto somebody’s property would have comparatively few rights when injured on that property. A landowner owes the trespasser only the duty not to willfully or wantonly injure them. One of the key exceptions to that rule pertains to children in what is known as the attractive nuisance doctrine. An example would be a neighborhood swimming pool where it could be foreseen that kids like to swim and that they might trespass.

The next category of persons on a property would be that of a licensee. The owner of the property is subject to liability to a licensee for injuries caused by a condition on the property if the owner knows or has reason to know the condition, should realize that it involves unreasonable risk of harm, and should expect that the licensee will not realize the danger. The property owner should exercise reasonable care to make the condition safe and warn the licensee of the condition and risk involved where the licensee does not know or would have not reason to know of the risk.

The most protected category of person is that of the invitee. The prop-erty owner owes the invitee the duty of ordinary care in keeping the prem-ises and area of approach safe. The invitees would include shoppers, peo-ple doing work on the property at the owner’s invitation, and anyone else there for the mutual benefit of the owner and the guest.

If you are injured on a person’s property, please contact our law firm for a free consultation. Stemberger & Cummins, Attorneys at Law - with over 50 years combined experience helping the injured and the innocent. Call today for your consultation.

HerbsSince earliest times herbs have been gathered from the wild and

(later) cultivated for use as food, medicine, cosmetics, dyes, insect repellents, and natural air fresheners and perfumes. Today herbs are widely used in cooking; for ornamental value; and enjoyed in wreaths, topiaries, and dried flower arrangements.

Herbs may be annuals (one growing season), biennials (two seasons), or perennials (more than two years growth). While some are best planted in Spring, many herbs may be planted or divided in the Fall. Garlic bulbs and shallots are planted in the Fall. Chives and tarragon may be divided in the Fall.

Autumn is the perfect time to prepare soil for herb gardening. Most herbs don’t need too rich a soil or much fertilizer. They do like a neu-tral to slightly alkaline soil with excellent drainage. Compost, lime, wood ashes, crushed egg shells or blood meal or 5-10-5 fertilizer could be added to good garden soil and tilled in thoroughly. Water and wait to plant. Choose a sunny location with good air circulation. Protect plants from strong winds.

There are many ways to plant herbs. Raised beds are great! Many types of containers can be used including pots, boxes, troughs, wall planters, window boxes and “strawberry” jars. Drainage is most im-portant. Topiary forms are fun. In Winter plants can be grown out-doors under cloches or in a cold frame. In the house they can be grown on a window sill in a sunny Southern windowed room that is cooler. A greenhouse is, of course, the ultimate luxury for Winter.

Herbs can be propogated by sowing seeds (indoors or outside), transplanting, rooting cuttings, layering or mounding. Many herbs can

be divided either in the Spring or in the Fall. Try to give them as close to their natural growing environment as possible.

Be aware that some herbs can be very invasive ~ such as catmint, all other mints, lemon balm, tarragon, and sweet wood-ruff. Separate them! Some herbs that are more tolerant of moist-er retentive heavy clay soils are garlic, all mints, chives, tarra-gon, fennel, sage, lemon balm, and cat mint.

What’s In Your Garage?Meet Gene Chester

In 1963, Gene Chester left the family farm in Statesboro and came rolling into Newnan driving a brand new Chevrolet Corvair. And not just any corvair, but a Super-charged, “Spyder” convertible! He had applied to Sears, and a posi-tion was available in Newnan and LaGrange. Gene chose the Newnan store, which was located at the Greenville Street Shopping Center. (The only shopping center!)

The Corvair was produced by General Motors from 1960-69 and was Detroit’s answer to the Volkswagen Beetle. Its unique feature was a rear mounted, air cooled engine - unheard of in Ameri-can-made automobiles at that time. It was also light and small compared to the behemoth, big finned “land yachts” of the 60’s. Gene’s Corvair has an auto-matic transmision with a little lever on the dash labeled “forward - neutral- re-verse”.

About 25 years ago, he purchased this beautiful 1966 Corvair convertible from Coweta Shopper publisher, Joe Williams. Gene has re-stored the car over the years and it looks as though it could be sitting on the “Showroom Floor”! He also owns another red 1966 Corvair. The other car in the photo is a 1966 VW convertible which is in excellent condition. Genes wife, Pat, was quick to say, “This Volkswagen is my car!”

Gene doesn’t have as much time for old cars now, as his interests have again turned to cattle farming. He has been a long time mem-ber of the Newnan Ki-wanis Club and is a member of The First Baptist Church. Gene and Pat, who live on Corinth Rd., have four children and 10 grand-children.

Car Colors: Personal, Regional, Fashionable

(NAPSI)—The car color you choose may say a lot

about you. In fact, according to a recent survey, it

may indicate where you live.

“Joe, you really “nailed it” with the lemonade stand

article. It really told the story!”

~ S.C., Newnan-South

For example, a classic choice could identify you

as an American living on the East or West Coast.

Despite an array of bright, vibrant car colors, U.S.

customers on the coasts and customers in most

European countries prefer the classic core col-

ors—white, black, silver and gray.

Gray and silver are most popular in New York and

Los Angeles. San Franciscans like white and Bos-

tonians like black.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the U.S., customers

have different preferences. Red is popular in the

Midwest. Drivers in Philadelphia, Washington,

D.C. and Pittsburgh like green. And Phoenix and

Miami customers like warm colors—orange and

gold.

Across the ocean, tastes tend to be equally as di-

verse: French and Italian motorists like cream-

colored vehicles, not a surprise given their café

cultures. The Irish like silver. Customers in Den-

mark prefer black, while those in Belgium like

gray.

Only one country in Europe has a top color other

than white, black or silver: The Czech Republic

chooses blue.

“The trend continues to be toward core colors—

the classics,” said Susan Swek, Ford’s group chief

designer for color and materials. “We strive to

achieve the best black, silver, white and gray.

We’re always working to make them even more

appealing.”

Vehicle owners everywhere use color choice to

convey messages about themselves, but color

choices are also influenced by culture and fashion

trends.

These findings are from Ford’s annual look at U.S.

car-buying preferences as well as an international

color study by DuPont.

Research also shows that white is the new red;

dark grays, blacks and blues are also popular, mir-

roring fashion trends. Also, new paint technolo-

gies, such as tri-coat pearl technology and tinted

clear coats, keep colors fresh by adding a modern

twist to classic hues.
