Here are a few questions I would like for every teacher and volunteer to ask himself: Do I have the burden for souls and lives as I should? Do I know how to win someone to Christ if called upon? Do I study the Bible and pray as I should? (There are Bible study materials around the church that may never be picked up. Let us hope your Sunday school teachers do not have a like atti- tude towards the Bible. Do YOU have a like attitude towards the Bible?) Do I attend all worship programs as I should? Do I speak well of my church and her work? Do I tithe 10% of all my income? Do I pray for other volunteers in the church? Do I visit prospects and absentees like I should? What are your answers to these questions? The concerned teacher in a church will often ask himself these questions. But it should not only be teachers who ask themselves these questions. Every Christian should feel the weight and burden to ask themselves these ques- tions. It is not only those who are called “teacher” who are teachers. Are you a Christian because you say so, or because you live after Christ’s image? We have been called forth by Jesus to become teachers and share the Gospel. You may have answered “no” to all these questions, but do not feel like you are not worthy. You may have answered “yes” to all these questions, but do not become arrogant. This journey as a Christian is an unending series of growth and development. There is no need to over ana- lyze things, so start small and start locally in your city! There are so many opportunities for you to proclaim God’s name! You just need to seize them. - Dr. Charles E. Brown, Senior Pastor SEPTEMBER 2018 VOLUME 136 NO. 9 THE COURIER

A WORD FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR

When I think of how important a soul is to God, I become concerned about the effectiveness

of the teaching program in our church.

Here are a few questions I would like for every teacher and volunteer to ask himself:

Do I have the burden for souls and lives as I should?

Do I know how to win someone to Christ if called upon?

Do I study the Bible and pray as I should? (There are Bible study materials around the church

that may never be picked up. Let us hope your Sunday school teachers do not have a like atti-

tude towards the Bible. Do YOU have a like attitude towards the Bible?)

Do I attend all worship programs as I should?

Do I speak well of my church and her work?

Do I tithe 10% of all my income?

Do I pray for other volunteers in the church?

Do I visit prospects and absentees like I should?

What are your answers to these questions? The concerned teacher in a church will often

ask himself these questions. But it should not only be teachers who ask themselves these

questions. Every Christian should feel the weight and burden to ask themselves these ques-

tions. It is not only those who are called “teacher” who are teachers. Are you a Christian

because you say so, or because you live after Christ’s image? We have been called forth by

Jesus to become teachers and share the Gospel.

You may have answered “no” to all these questions, but do not feel like you are not worthy.

You may have answered “yes” to all these questions, but do not become arrogant. This journey

as a Christian is an unending series of growth and development. There is no need to over ana-

lyze things, so start small and start locally in your city! There are so many opportunities for

you to proclaim God’s name! You just need to seize them.

Education Ministry ________________________________________________________________ Life Groups will resume on Sunday, September 9, at 5:00 pm. Many of you went through Becoming A Disciple-Maker and A Call to Growth several months ago. One of the courses that will be offered is titled A Call to Growth. It is the next step in the discipleship process. It is an eleven-session course by Billie Hanks, Jr. Dino Danzey will lead a coed study titled Just Walk Across the Room, and John Baker will lead a study for youth titled Sharing Jesus Without Freaking Out. The children will participate in Bible Drills. The younger children and preschoolers will partici-pate in a Bible study, and there will be nursery provided. We will participate in the Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering. Your gifts support the Alabama WMU, Disaster Relief, Church Planting, Part-nership Missions, and Church Revitalization in Alabama. The offering will be promoted on September 9, and you are asked to give a gift to the Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering on September 16. There will be a New Member Class, Class 101, on Sunday, September 9, and Sunday, September 16, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in Room 101. All new church members and people who are considering church membership are invited to attend. All men are invited to the Men’s Lunch on Wednesday, September 12, at 11:30 am in the Youth Room. Our guest speaker is Andy Wood who is an Executive Leadership Coach. Please invite a guest to attend. Please pray for the Guatemala Mission Team. We will leave on September 20 and return on September 27. - Brooks Alexander

Generate Student Ministries ________________________________________________________

Church family, August was a blast, and September looks to hold even more fun in store. If you are like me, you are glad college football sea-son is back in full-swing (Roll Tide!). Even with football season back in session, we have plenty of things planned for our students this month. We will be having a workday in the youth room on September 8 if we have anything left to be done with renovations. We will be having a pool party on September 14 at Camp Christian if the weather permits. Finally, we will be serving at Lynwood Nursing Home on September 29. As always, thank you for your continual support of the student ministry here at G-Street. - John Baker Child Development Center __________________________________________________________ As I walk down the halls of the CDC, it is hard to believe some of our little babies have grown up. It seems like yesterday some of our boys and girls were in the nursery and now I see them in the 2 and 3 year old classrooms learning to sit at the tables and walk in a straight line as they go down the hall with “bubbles in their mouths” (learning when it is appropriate to talk and when it is not). I can’t wait to watch them in action when the teachers pull out the curriculum in a couple of weeks on September 4 and they start learning ABC’s and 123’s but most importantly the Bible stories and Bible verses they will take home to their families. It is always rewarding when we hear a parent say their little one keeps singing a song they learned at school. This is how even the youngest of children can spread the gospel. Also, we are very excited to be opening a new nursery room on September 4. We have had an overwhelming number of calls for infants need-ing care so we wanted to help meet the need of these families. God has really opened many doors with this room, and we give Him all the glory. God is so good. Please continue to lift our children, their families, and our teachers up in your prayers. - In Christ, Deborah Eddie

Government Street Christian School __________________________________________________ “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” – Matthew 7:7

Government Street Christian School is praising God for the season of growth that we are in. Our prayer was for God to bring us at least 150 students for this 2018-19 school year. God has been faithful to bring us 161 students so far. With increased growth comes growing pains. I am proud that God has blessed our school with a dedicated staff who have been willing to pitch in and go the extra mile to ensure that this school year will be one of excellence. Our motto states that Government Street Christian School exists to “educate the mind and nurture the spirit.” Each of our staff members has committed to that cause. Please join with us in praying that we will not only impart knowledge this school year, but we will also display Christ to our students in such a way as to draw them into a saving relationship with Him and to disciple those students and their families who are saved. We are continuing to ask God for growth both numerically as well as spiritually. Please join with us in praying for our students, teachers, and staff. - Respectfully, Rev. Dino R. Danzey, Interim Principal

Camp Christian ____________________________________________________________________ Hey church family! Camp Christian is slowing down after a very busy summer! We will begin a series of small renovations, mainly outdoors! If you would like to volunteer some time or resources, just let me know! Stay tuned for updates! - Brett Warren
