KALEVALA KORU OY

• Culture-conscious design• domestic manufacture• a genuine, vibrant handicraft community

• When enhancing the ethics in sourcing, the company created a new business model for its key raw material suppliers in the industry. These suppliers are committed in writing to this business model, which not only regenerates practices in the industry, but also improves the transparency of the supply chain. The model takes into account legislation, national and international regulations and agreements, human rights and the basic rights of working life, as well as material safety and a high standard of business ethics.

• 110 working places• Kalevala Koru has always had strong ethics. The company takes

environmental matters into account in the manufacturing process. According to a report by the Turku School of Economics on corporate social responsibility in Finnish small and medium-sized enterprises, the required minimum standards for the environmental license have been exceeded in many ways by Kalevala Koru. The environment is respected by recycling, deducting emissions, and using resources economically . According to Ranin, the renewed factory of the company has an automatic waste water treatment plant of its own, and the thermal energy generated in the foundry is captured and reused to heat the building. Moreover, the production saves electricity and water through internal recycling procedures, and all metal scrap is collected for reuse.

• Gold/Silver from filters

• The company recycles materials whenever possible (Usvasalo, Yhteiskuntavastuu 20). Customers have for years been able to use old golden ornaments as a means of payment, and since 2011, Kalevala Koru has used only recycled gold in the production of the jewellery (Kalevala Koru switches). Moreover, the products are of high quality, which makes them last long. As it is pointed out in the Turku School of Economics report, "the longevity of the products also corresponds to sustainability".
