A Look Ahead:

The housing market continues strong per what I read in the news. That means there is a good possibility some of us will have new neighbors around us. The vows of church membership say we will, "faithfully participate the in the ministries of the church by our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness."

For each of us, ministry happens not only in our church but outside the walls as well. So I invite all of us to practice our membership vows when seeing a moving truck pull in down the street and start unloading. I invite you to practice those vows:

start praying for them pay a visit take a gift offer to lend a hand invite them to join you for worship, a Sunday School class or growth group pick up a bulletin and just leave it with them inviting them to church

One of the hardest things to leave when somebody moves is a church home and one of the hardest things to find is a new one. That means that all of us need to pay special attention to new faces in our worship.

say hello to people you don't know make room in your pew for someone you don't know share a cup of coffee with a new person in the Gathering Place and introduce them to others. introduce them to your pastor or any member of the staff

Jesus said nothing was more important than "loving our neighbors," and the writer of Hebrews added that we should not neglect showing hospitality to strangers because some have entertained angels in doing so. So keep your eyes open for someone new to your neighborhood or CUMC who may need a church to call "home" and church "family" to welcome them.

September 13:

Sr. High Fall Retreat

A chill weekend with your feet propped up is just what you might need....but don't expect this weekend to be so laid back! Sure, you'll have a chance to hang with friends and you'll probably get a bit of time on the water as well, but there will be plenty of activity mixed in as well. You'll spend time road-tripping to The Lake House plus some high-stakes action once you arrive. During weekend, you will certainly develop deeper connections with friends and mentors. Be prepared to discover more about God's character and the reasons he put you on planet earth. Sign up now and consider inviting a friend as well! *Boredom not included!

Jr. High Fall Retreat

Strap on your big kid pants and consider buckling your seat belt as well…We are going to kickoff the school year with a fun and fast-paced trip to Rainbow Christian Camp and pack more energy into 30 hours than you can shake a stick at (we know because we've tried). This will be a perfect way to connect with some old friends or make new ones as well as discover the adventure that God calls you into. We aren't going to spoil any surprises but be prepared for a memorable weekend! You might as well pack a change of pants too since there is always the risk that action gets a bit out of control. (We promise to keep them safe, par-ents!) Sign up now and consider inviting a friend as well!

Understanding Autism is important for us all. As a Church that strives to integrate all

people within worship, mission and educational opportunities, we all should make an

effort to learn more about Autism. Now, you have a simple opportunity. August 23 at

12noon, join Amy McClean, Special Education who will be helping us gain a bet-

ter understanding of Autism and teaching and communicating strategies. All are wel-

come! Please, RSVP to Pastor Aj so that we have enough materials and lunch for

you. [email protected] **Childcare is available too.

Autism Workshop

Each year during September, we begin by having a short class about the Bible for our second graders and their parents. However, some folks are not a part of the Church until their kids are 3rd or 4th graders. If you are in that category, please consider joining us for the Bible class on September 20 at 9:30am. Then we will present the Bibles to the kids at the two 11am services in the Sanc-tuary or the Stream service, you may choose. Please let me know you will be participating so that I can make sure I have enough Bibles and educational ma-terials: [email protected]

9:30am and the 11am Stream, we will have an Open House for you to see

your child's classroom, enjoy a treat and meet their teachers. Questions,

email Pastor Aj at [email protected]

Want to know more about the Bible? Want to get to know others from Church? Here are just two of the many options for you in Sep-tember.

September 10 begins the Moms Bible study. We study the same lesson, in adult form that our kids will learn on the following Sunday. This way, you will be prepared to answer some of the hard questions your child may ask! We meet for a short time and their is no home-work. All are welcome.

On Sunday evenings, beginning September 13 at 6pm, a new Bible study will begin

especially designed for parents of any age child from toddler to teen and in between.

Music and Missions (m&m’s)

Music: (under the direction of Nathan Hood)

Carmel United Methodist offers a comprehensive choir program for chil-

dren from age four through 5th grades. The Children’s Music Program is de-

signed to encourage children to grow in faith, serve in worship and praise through song.

Singing provides the foundation for all of our children’s choirs. Part of every rehearsal is spent learn-

ing new songs, reviewing favorite songs and, in the younger choirs, playing singing games. Our goal is to

help each child find his or her own unique voice. We believe the ability to “sing your praise” helps children

express their faith and share in the joy of worship.

Children in choir also play rhythm instruments and participate in movement activities. They learn

new musical and social skills, sing during worship services and they may participate in programs like

the Children’s Christmas Play and others. Our goal is each choir will sing at least two times a year in a

worship service.

Choir will meet on Sunday evenings, in the choir room in the basement and participants must regis-

ter and commit to the entire semester. There is no cost at this time but t-shirts may be ordered at a later

date.
