with Specialties in Pediatrics, Women’s Services, Emergency Care and Cardiovascular Health

Houston,TX,October30,2012HCA Gulf Coast Division announced today that it is building a 30-bed, acute care hospital in Pearland at the southwest intersection of Highway 288 and County Road 2234 (Shadow Creek Parkway). Pearland Medical Center will be built on the 48-acre site in Shadow Creek Ranch that is currently home to a full-service, freestanding 24-hour emergency department, imaging center and a 3-story, 80,000-square-foot medical office building.

“We are excited to expand our presence in Pearland with a state-of-the-art hospital that will allow the citizens of that community to receive quality healthcare close to home,” said Maura Walsh, President of HCA Gulf Coast Division.

Pearland Medical Center will be a 144,000 square-foot, $71 million facility featuring surgical suites, medical/surgical beds, intensive care beds, an emergency department, and an imaging department that will include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), catheterization lab, echocardiogram testing, and nuclear medicine modalities. The hospital’s women’s services will provide digital mammography, labor and delivery suites, cesarean section operating rooms and a newborn nursery. Pearland Medical Center will be designed with the future growth of the community in mind with plans allowing for incremental expansion to meet the needs of the community.

“HCA Gulf Coast Division is delivering the right care at the right time to our residents in their own neighborhood,” said Tom Reid, Pearland Mayor. “HCA is fulfilling a need to provide people with highly technological, high quality healthcare within the community.”

“Pearland Medical Center will benefit the local economy creating jobs in construction service as well as jobs in healthcare and its supporting industries,” said Matt Buchanan, President of the Pearland Economic Development Corporation. “It’s been a desire of our growing community for several years, and we’re very excited that HCA has chosen this site to build a hospital.”

The City of Pearland, Harris County and the Gulf Coast Center are partnering to provide transportation services to disabled and elderly (age 60 and older) residents through the Rides fare card program. The transportation program will coordinate non-emergency transportation services at a significant discount for qualified users. Through the program, residents can schedule “rides” 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, for as low as $1. The Rides program replaces the old demand response program which required residents to call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a pick up and drop off. The new program only requires 90 minute advance scheduling.

For our taxpayers’ convenience, Mr. Lee accepts credit cards for payment of tax bills, with payment of a small service fee.

Safety Tips

The District recently renewed its contracts with the City of Pearland Police Officers for additional patrol services. The Pearland Police Officers serving the District offer the following safety tip for residents: (1) install alarm systems in homes and display the alarm company’s sign in the front yard; (2) remember to not store valuables inside vehicles; and (3) all solicitors must be licensed by the City.

The Club is under the direction of local SCR Resident Chalmette Ray. An avid pet lover and advocate for those that do not have a voice. She has always felt the needs of Shadow Creek furry paws and claws were not being addressed.

The Club will meet on the third Thursday of the month at the Emerald Bay Clubhouse at 7pm. In addition to meeting fellow pet lovers; important topics will be discussed. A hearty slate of guest speakers with a variety of topics will benefit pet owners and serve the interest of our four legged friends. Some of the guests include but are not limited to Local Veterinarians, City Officials, local Pet Stores, the Humane Society, and the City of Pearland Animal Control. RECIPES

DIRECTIONS:1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Shadow Creek Ranch keeps getting better! Already the envy of other Master Planned Communities, Shadow Creek has broken ground on the fourth recreation center. This amazing facility will be located on Windward Bay Drive at Biscayne Bay Drive. Sec.13-17 Weeds and other Vegetation It shall be unlawful for any owner , tenant, lessee, agent or occupant of any premises to permit any weeds, grass or brush to grown above the height of twelve (12) inches upon any premises owned, leased, occupied, or controlled by such person, or upon the unpaved portion of any street right-of way abutting said property.

Ordinance No.1286 Junked / Abandon Vehicles A junked vehicle, including a part of a junked vehicle, that is visible at any time of the year from a public place (street) or right-of way is detrimental to the safety and welfare of the general public, tends to reduce the value of private property, invites vandalism, creates afire hazard, is an attractive nuisance creating a hazard to the health and safety of minors.

Trash&Rubbish/OpenStorageTypical violations of this ordinance include accumulation of trash, wood debris, building and fencing materials, indoor furniture, appliances, tires, car parts, tree limbs and other related materials. Residents are asked to bring their properties to compliance by placing trash out on scheduled days and removing such items within a designated time frame. Ifthe problem is not resolved, legal action could be taken in Municipal Court.

The voice mails will be checked daily, and the necessary actions will be taken. Once your complaint is received one of our officers wiill investigate your complaint and will respond to you within 48 to 72 hours should you need an update.

When making repairs, please remember fence must match the exist-ing fences in type, quality and style and the fence cannot exceed six (6) feet in height from the ground to the top of the picket. Only a protective clear coat may be applied to the fence. When replacing or repairing your fence, keep in mind that any variances or modifications to your existing fence will require a Request for Home Improvement Form. It is an easy process to adhere to your Association’s Dedicatory Instruments.

Councilman’s CornerOn Saturday, May 12th I was re-elected to the Pearland City Council. It is hard to believe that I have been serving on the City Council for almost three years. I continue to be humbled by the opportunity to represent you and your interests on the Council. As you can see, there are many exciting things going on in Pearland. I want to take this opportunity to update you on some of the latest developments in the City.

We welcome Sam’s Club to our beautiful City and the bustling Starbucks located next to CVS on Shadow Creek Parkway. Hopefully, you have had the opportunity to stop by and visit them.

After nearly a year of discussions with the Texas Department of Transportation and endless paperwork, there is now access to the Best Buy/JCPenney parking lot from the feeder of 288. I am hopeful that this will alleviate some congestion at the 288/518 intersection.

Fire Station Number 6 is now open. The all combination fire-EMS station will serve residents in the southwest part of the city. The station was a joint project of the Pearland Fire Department, Friendswood Development Co. and Brazoria County municipal utility districts 21 and 22. The station is located on CR 58.

Finally, as you are aware, I have fought tirelessly for the last three years to bring a library to the Westside of Pearland. I am excited to announce that the City and Brazoria County have come to an agreement that will result in the opening of a storefront library west of Highway 288. The full service facility will be approximately 6000 square feet and will serve the needs ofour residents until we can move to the next stage, a larger free-standing facility. A special thank you is due to Commissioner Stacy Adams for his support and had work on this issue and to the Friends of the West Pearland Library who never gave up!
