We aim to make learning an enjoyable experience where pupils are motivated to succeed

Our highly skilled and committed staff deliver a broad, balanced and flexible programme of study, enabling each child to become a successful self motivated learner, confident individual and responsible citizen. We believe our curriculum gives every pupil the challenge and motivation to develop individual abilities and talents to the full.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) the curriculum provides a range of academic, creative and practical subjects.

At Key Stage 4 in addition to English, Maths and Science pupils choose a range of subjects according to their particular interests and future career paths.

We celebrate academic excellence, good conduct, good citizenship and improvement.

The school’s excellent sporting facilities allow for a full range of sport and health related activities during the school day and after school hours. There is ample opportunity for our pupils to represent the school in a variety of teams and from this some of our pupils go on to represent the county.

Our Music Department enriches the life of the school. Many different performers are invited to work with our pupils in a range of musical styles that include African and Japanese drumming, Samba bands and Indian and Gamelan percussion workshops.

We also have our own excellent musicians who regularly perform through the School Band and Steel Band at formal functions, fetes and other social events. Pupils can develop their individual musical skills through music tuition, vocal groups, small ensembles and rock bands.

The annual School Production and Arts Week are two major events that inspire our pupils and showpiece to the wider community the extraordinary wealth of talent at our school.

We aim to develop each pupil ’s knowledge by offering a wide range of oppor tunities

O ur school has high aspirations for all pupils and they are encouraged to do the best they possibly c an so that they are prepared for the future

At The Connaught School we provide a range of pastoral support for pupils. The Learning Leader oversees the academic and social welfare of the pupils in each Year Group supported by the Tutor Team.Through close monitoring by the Tutor, progress is regularly checked and any additional needs the pupil may have can be identified and addressed.

Each of our pupils has their own strengths and talents which we nuture in a safe and secure environment. We are proud of the positive relationships that we have with our pupils and the strong partnerships that develop with parents throughout our pupils time at school.

As we are working in a partnership with you and your child we feel it is very important that you have a say on school issues. We regularly invite the views of parents and pupils through various mediums: the Virtual Learning Environment (Studywiz), questionnaires, PTFA, School Council, Parents’ Evenings and telephone contacts.

We aim to provide our pupils with challenges ever y day. In lessons we encourage thinking skil ls by giving pupils problem-solving exercises

At The Connaught School we understand that ‘taking a risk’ is important for a pupils’ academic development. If a child just continues to try tasks they know they can complete, they will never make progress. Having the tenacity to keep going when learning becomes more difficult is essential.

We want all our pupils to develop a life long love of learning by rising to the challenges in front of them and doing their utmost to achieve them.

In addition to the challenge in the classroom we have a Gifted and Talented programme that runs alongside the school curriculum. Through this programme we aim to extend the level of expertise a pupil may have in a subject area by challenging the pupil in a range of activities associated with the subject.
