Cameron Colquhoun The Conjuring title sequence analysis

Title Sequence:

The title plays to sharp playing music of a violin to create the atmosphere the film wants to establish for the audience. It also show the key contributors to the film which is Warner Bros and New Line Cinemas in which the colour has changed in the logos to dark cloudy grey, this lets the audience know that this will be a dark, eerie film.

Mise-en-scene:

The first shot of a modern day house states the time this was set but also inside the house is a doll called “Annabelle”, this states clearly to the audience the main focus point of the film. The doll is important mainly because the characters are talking about it which also establishes who the characters are too.

Themes:

The film tries to create a true story basis to the audience since the characters are not introduced directly through actor names. The “based on the true story” text is displayed clearly for all the audience to see. The text is also in a original bold colour to not create the Hollywood, traditional movie feeling. It is also viewed in a documented way to get an adrenaline rush in the audience since they will not know if it is true or not. The title shown also plays in with an eerie chanting sound which relates to a conjuring, chant vibe to put the audience on edge.
