She will be joined by world-class musicians Howie Smith, sax, Theron Brown, piano, Anthony Taddeo, percussion and Dave Morgan, bass. Sacred and secular offerings from around the globe, plenty of opportunities to sing along, and moments of meditation and prayer. Come, be a part of this spiritual journey through music. (free-will offering received) CHRISTMAS & EPIPHANY MADRIGAL FEAST Akron Firestone High School Madrigal Singers Friday, January 5, 2018, 6:30 pm Come gather with friends to celebrate in grand style the conclusion of Christmas Revelry. There will be feasting, pageantry, and entertainment featuring the Firestone High School Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Chad Pittman. Fare: grapes & cheeses; roast beef, potatoes, vegetables, bread pudding, non-alcoholic beverages. Proceeds from this event benefit the Food, Clothing, and Prayer Ministry of Christ Church. Tickets: $25 at the church office or online. HYMN FESTIVAL LED BY TOM TRENNEY In memory of James F. Kettlewell Sunday, May 20, 6:00 pm Tom Trenney shares his passion as pastoral musician, composer, and teacher in worship with his home congregation, in the college classroom, and in performances, hymn festivals, choral and organ workshops, and master classes all around the country. Since 2009, he has served as Minister of Music to First-Plymouth Church (United Church of Christ) in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he shepherds four adult choirs, accompanies the congregation on the Schoenstein organ, preaches sermons, and guides the Abendmusik at First Plymouth Concert Series. Tom’s choral compositions are in demand by many publishers, his music being sung in churches and colleges around the country. Tom’s critically-acclaimed recordings with First-Plymouth and sounding light have been featured on national public radio’s Pipedreams, With Heart and Voice, and Sing for Joy. (free-will offering received) Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by the New Yorker, the San Francisco based GRAMMY® award- winning ensemble Chanticleer will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018. During its 39th season in 2016-17, Chanticleer performed 52 concerts in 24 of the United States, 27 in the San Francisco Bay Area, and 16 in Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia at many world-renowned concert halls.
