Care Conference Update for 2020

To all our Friends and Family members at The Views,

Starting in January, 2020 we are hoping to implement

a shift in focus ensuring that our conferences are

more family and resident focused and revolve around

well being.

Brenda Phillips will continue to notify family of

upcoming conferences, and Marie Ellis will continue

to schedule them. A questionnaire was circulated via

e-mail that included 4 questions that may assist in

preparing for the annual conferences. These

questions will be used as a guide to direct the

meeting. You are welcome to share your questions

ahead of time with Brenda and/or Marie if you wish.

The care conferences are held annually and are 30

minutes long. They include a variety of the

interdisciplinary team. The purpose of these

meetings are to discuss our residents’ well being,

answer questions and create goals of care and key

wishes for the following year. We request that the

primary contact alert any additional guests. Please

note, that if you have any questions/concerns

before/after these meetings that they can be

addressed with the nursing staff in your loved one’s

neighborhood and they don’t need to be “saved up”.

We hope that this change will facilitate conversation

that focuses on the strengths and capabilities of our

amazing residents, and less on deficits to ensure that

their time here with us is meaningful, comfortable

and filled with moments of joy.

Providing we get positive feedback, this will hopefully

be the format moving forward.

Feel free to contact Brenda or Marie with any

questions or feedback.

FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

Brian Ducedre, Coordinator of

Spiritual Care and Ethics is starting a

new program focusing on spouses

and family members.

This is a group that is open to all

spouses and family members who

wish to share their feelings and

experiences of their loved one living at

The Views.

As family, you witness the different

stages of life that your family member

goes through and at times, a

supportive presence can be helpful

and comforting for those experiencing

these changes. This group offers a safe

and confidential, compassionate

environment where feelings can be

shared and honored

The Next Family Support Group

Meeting will take place on Tuesday,

January 21st at 10:00 a.m. in the

Edith McNish Board Room

Refreshments will be served.

If you have any questions, you can

In Celebration of National Activity

Week, January 19th-25th, the Activity

Staff will be holding its Annual

Think Tank Workshop on Thursday,

January 30th. This gives the

department an opportunity to come

together as a team to discuss various

aspects of the program, brainstorm

for new ideas and affirm our activity

role as a professional. The Activity

Staff will continue to develop new

programs based on the many needs

of our residents. We look forward to

many changes happening in 2020 at

The Views.

Celebrating National Activity Professionals Week January 19th-25th, 2020

As we stand at the crossroads of our residents lives, it is a time of choice..a time of question..a

time to ensure that our residents will live lives of integrity over despair….

Each day will dawn the opportunity to do something new…

See a flower in a new light…nurture a friendship toward a more fulfilling tomorrow…a chance to complete a project…to sit back with satisfaction

and know that a task was well done. Every moment is a present to be unwrapped…a

discovery waiting to be uncovered. We will search for meaning in every act and not give up

when the response is minimal, for each day has a dawn—each moment an eclipse. We live and

work for those moments of surprise…the moment of “Aha!”--the sparkle of recognition within vacant eyes and the moment in which a

confused soul comes home to who he is. We will come to work equipped with the tools of

love, compassion and the vision to see beyond

the tangible. For before us sits not illness,

confusion, and loss, but rather possibility, depth

of spirit and the wisdom of ages. It is merely a

well which needs to be primed and encouraged

to bring forth the spring of life..of joy…and the

knowledge that deep within, are fountains ready

to spring forth.

It is here with joy and anticipation that we

believe that life goes on….that life is not

ended….not used up, but rather there is the

opportunity to complete the life that has come

full circle.

In each day we will seize the

opportunity…embrace the privilege to complete

the circle of life.
