Dear Christian Friends,

Happy New Year! But how many things about it will really be new?

Or will it end up being same-old-same-old?

Philippians 3 12* Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on,

that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

13* Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,

forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to

those things which are ahead,

14* I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ

Jesus.

What if we really could forget what is behind and totally focus on

what's ahead? Could we leave the past behind and leap into a brand

new life? We could not only have a new year, we could have new

ideas and do new things. Do you think there might be new

opportunities for new experiences in new places, where we have nev-

er been before? Could there be exciting new things in science? There

certainly were some mind-blowing ones last year,

never before thought of. What in the world will

happen in 2018?

Love in Christ,

Pastor Steve

Awakenings

January 7- February 11

An Epiphany is a revelation, a realization, an

awakening, an "aha" moment which can be life

changing. When the Messiah entered our world,

what were the initial moments of Epiphany for

the people, and what did they mean? What do

they mean to us today?

In this series we will see Jesus as Liberator,

Giver, Revealer, King, Son of God and Life-

Changer, bringing freedom, grace, assurance,

security, purpose and aspiration into our lives.

Lakewood Village Community Church

It is new year and we are excited to see how the

LORD will continue to move and bless us at

like to thank those who served through the years

as we welcome our newest additions to the Deacons

DEACONS 2018-2020

New Years greetings from your Stephen Ministry team. We

all hope that your Christmas was blessed.

We would like to thank all the Good Samaritans who are

on the lookout for people who are in need of Christ like care

through our ministry. Your efforts are already proving

fruitful. We have successfully paired some of your

prospects to a caring Minister. Please keep up the good

work.

As we mentioned previously we are searching to also add to

our ministry with at least 4 new ministers and 2 additional

new leaders. On January 21st, we are hosting a "Show Up"

for those interested in joining our team . Last year was

very informative and several of you became God's servants.

Some said that the timing was not right but would consider

becoming involved in the future. Everyone is invited, for it

is you, the congregation, who has made this ministry

possible.

On January 14th we plan on having a care receiver give

testimony as to how life changing the help they received

was. It may not be an in person testimony as we always

insure complete confidentiality. If the person feels so

moved to give testimony in person that choice will be

theirs.

If you are interested in becoming a leader you will be

required to attend a week long training session put on by

the people from St. Louis. This training will be held in Or-

ange County the first week of February and is only given

once a year. We ask that you pray on this and if you feel

God is calling you to let us know so we can enroll you.

We all look forward to another successful year of providing

Christ like care to those in need.

Your in Christ,

The Stephen Ministry Team

INSIDE LVCC: PRAYER IN THE CHAPEL

Fear. It is such a small word that

brings with it such powerful emotion.

I read somewhere that the phrase fear

not is mentioned in the Bible 365

times in one form or the other.

Sometimes it says do not be afraid.

However you say it, God is assuring

us that He is always with us and we

can trust in Him to not abandon us in

our time of need.

I might have shared with you

before that the word fear could stand

for Fear Everything and Run, or Face

Everything and Rise. 2017 was an

especially difficult year for me. I pray

that this year will be one filled with

more joy and peace for all of us.

Many times in the past year I have

wanted to run away from my difficul-

ties, but I know that is just what the

enemy wanted me to do. And so I try

with all my heart and strength that

God gives me each day to Face

Everything and Rise.

Most Sundays you will find

me waiting in the Whitman Chapel to

pray with you if you have a need.

But from time to time my wonderful

faithful prayer warriors will be in the

chapel and I just sit on the small

bench outside the stain glass doors

and talk to people as they pass

through the hallway on their way to

the Garden Room. I am so touched

when someone from our church family

will stop and ask me how I am doing,

and even take the time to say a prayer

for me. It is so much easier for me to

reach out to help you than to let you

turn the tables and ask me if I need

prayer.

I am not sure what the

coming year has in store for all of us,

but this one thing I know for certain.

God is always good, and we are al-

ways loved. A little over a year ago I

went through the whole Bible and

copied verses in my scripture journal

that would lift me up when I am feel-

ing fearful. I want to share one of my

favorite ones with you. 1 Peter 1:6,7

says, ”In this you greatly rejoice,

though now for a little while you may

have had to suffer grief in all kinds of

trials. These have come so that your

faith -of greater worth than gold,

which perishes even though refined by

fire- may be proved genuine and may

result in prayer, glory, and honor

when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

If you need prayer on any

Sunday, please come into the chapel

where the prayer warriors or Pastor

Steve will be waiting to pray with

you. I will be waiting just inside the

door, or you may find me sitting on

the little white bench in the hallway.

HEARTS & HANDS

Christmas season was a

success at Hearts & Hands

Ministry. Between creating

Christmas cards, the Crazy

Socks Exchange and delivering over 12 stocking stuffers to

the homebound members of LVCC, December was a busy

month! The Crazy Sock Exchange turned out to be a lot of

fun with smiles and hearts that filled the room. Needless to

say, it is our goal at Hearts & Hands Ministry to make sure

the community feel warm, loved and cared for this and any

season. We welcome all Ladies to our January event!

Yours in Christ,

Betty Forgacs
