Community
Action
Index
Recognising and rewarding responsible living, instead of
ignoring it
![Page 2: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
There are so many problems that
demand our attention today….
End Poverty!
Go renewable!

… that sometimes it can get a bit
overwhelming
And people don’t engage at all
Give!Help us out!
Look at me!
Donate! Help!
![Page 4: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
So, how can you best promote positive action in
an era of over-information?
![Page 5: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Those organisations and campaigns which
have proven most successful are those
that have made positive action possible from the
comfort of your own home
![Page 6: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

But this is not a universal solution; some
activities by definition involve extra effort
And so a different approach is
required for these activities
![Page 8: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Let’s try to offer the people an incentive to engage in positive action and ethical living
Introducing ….
The Community Action Index
![Page 9: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The Community Action Index (CAI) is the Premier League of ethical living
It is a system of ranking communities according to how socially responsible the lives of its inhabitants are
It seeks to reinvent the way people relate to social responsibility
![Page 10: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Position
County Score
1 Donegal 0.86
2 Cork 0.82
3 Carlow 0.79
4 Galway 0.78
5 Kilkenny 0.78
A single figure between 0 and 1, emerging as a composite of numerous variables, will be used to rank the counties
The 26 counties of the Republic will all be ranked
Like any good competition, there will be a
***********Prize************
for the winner!
![Page 11: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
HOW WILL IT BE CALCULATED?
![Page 12: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
7 variables
Ethical Consumerism Blood
Donations
Organ Donors
Recycling
Electricity Consumption
Voluntary Work
Charitable Donations
![Page 13: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Collectively the 7 indicators cover the fields of:
Health Charity
Economy Environment
Each variable is weighted equally to provide the most comprehensive picture possible
![Page 14: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
WHAT
EFFECT WILL
THIS HAVE?
![Page 15: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
![Page 16: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Generate public awareness & debate over social responsibility and the specific indicators
Strengthen weakening community ties
Data source for researchers
Performance evaluation for service providers
![Page 17: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
But the main effect?
To encourage ordinary people to adopt more ethical lifestyles and contribute more
to their communities
![Page 18: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
How?
A financial one
A social one
By creating a double incentive:
![Page 19: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Financial Incentive
• A fund will be created, sourced from a combination of crowdfunding, philanthropic donors, CSR programmes and a social impact
bond with the government
This will operate as a prize fund, being invested into the highest ranking communities on the CAI
![Page 20: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
A financial, tangible incentive is a
thing
But that power increases massively once you factor in
some behavioural science
Which brings us to incentive #2 …
![Page 21: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Social Incentive
The CAI will further encourage engagement by introducing a social and fun element into social responsibility which has been missing up until now
A more gamified experience will tap into innate characteristics of everyday people….
![Page 22: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
COMPETITIVENESS
![Page 23: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)

![Page 26: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
The traditional approach to civic participation, the
‘just do it because it’s the right thing’ approach, is
outdated, ill-equipped to deal with the information
overload era, and does not take advantage of the
tools at our disposal
![Page 27: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
The approach suggested here…
…of introducing a double
incentive for ethical activities…
…encourages and increases engagement…
Without taking away from the intrinsic motivation of doing
good for good’s sake
![Page 28: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
And besides…
![Page 29: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
![Page 30: The Community Action Index](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022050918/53f67a1b8d7f729a7f8b4815/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
It’s time to start recognising and rewardingethical living…
…and to stop ignoring it.
Thank you
