This colony was founded in 1624.

Where was the Colony? The New Netherlands colony was on the Eastern side of New York State.

Was This Colony Successful? This colony was not successful because their attempt with the

fur trade failed. Another reason was the ongoing conflict with the Indians. Finally, putting high taxes on the Indians was a mistake.

No, the colonists didn’t get along very well with the

Indians.

What Happened to This Colony?

British warships approached New Amsterdam/ New Netherlands harbor. The leader, Peter Stuyvesant, understood that the British had more power, but he was prepared to die defending his city. The people of New Amsterdam refused to fight, so he was forced to surrender his colony to the English.
