Our partnershipStudents become successful learners when the wholecommunity comes together to help them. The mostimportant of these partnerships lies between parents, school and the student.

When a student joins The Colne Community Schooland College we enter into a three part agreement. OurHome School Agreement puts responsibilities on eachof us to work for our students’ success. Underpinningthis is our belief that if students undertake seriously thefollowing they will be successful:

Our guide to success• Attend• Be on time• Be prepared to learn• Work well together• Respect each other

Working together -

Students have the right to be consulted on mattersthat will affect them. Every Year group has electedmembers who represent the widely held view of thestudent body via a number of student forumsincluding the House and School Council.

We also have an elected Head Boy and Head Girl wholead on the student voice.

OFSTED reported favourably on the school andcollege. The school has continued to develop since thereport and build on the strengths identified, withstudents clearly at the heart of the work we do.

Working together -

Our relationship with parents is important to us. Weknow parents hold a lot of knowledge about how theirchild copes with challenges and success. We believethat we can only provide the right environment forlearning and growth with parents’ help.

Parents also have an important voice about generalschool matters and in addition to the usual methods ofcommunication all parents are offered an opportunityto attend our Parents’ Forum, which is held at halftermly intervals. We regularly survey parents on a widerange of issues and analyse and respond to theinformation such surveys provide us with.

Working together -

The key adult in our work is each student’s personaltutor who, along with subject staff, identify areas forimprovement and agree strategies and targets that willmake a difference. These strategies are co-ordinatedand closely monitored to ensure there is a real impacton our students’ success. We are an inclusive schooland we tailor our curriculum and support to ensure thatevery child’s self esteem and self worth increases.

Where a student is identified as having a specificspecial need our Learning Support Team developssupport plans to tackle specific requirements.

The school provides support through:

• Tailored teaching• Individual learning programmes• Small group tutoring• Support in the classroom• Mentoring• Counselling• Special programmes and events

Learning together -

At The Colne Community School and College there isa long tradition of extending the curriculum byexperiences and visits outside the formal taught time.Students in all Year groups are entitled toexperiences, visits and opportunities that support theirlearning in a variety of ways throughout their time withus. Our immersion opportunities offer different ways oflearning about significant issues not always examinedin the formal curriculum but which are vital for youngpeople as they grow towards adult life.

Rewards and AchievementsWe have a well developed system to reward studentswho do well, make progress and achieve personalbests in their time at The Colne. Public celebration isthe key to our philosophy and our regular AwardAssemblies reinforce the message that success isboth desirable and achievable.
