Why The Portrait Place?

THE PORTRAIT PLACE · GROSSE POINTE WOODS · 313-343-9060 · WWW.GP-SENIORS.COM

It’s a good question.

For many years, our schools had the policy of only allowing one “official” portrait studio to create the senior portraits for the yearbook. Thankfully for student and parents, that policy has now changed. Now, you have a choice.

Here are some of the many reasons why our clients tell us they chose The Portrait Place for their senior portraits:

Location. You don’t have to travel to another city to have your portraits taken like you do with the official school photographer. We’re right in Grosse Pointe, just minutes from your school and home!

Personal Service. You won’t be rushed in and out of our studio or wait in line like at some of the senior “portrait factories” servicing high schools. We take our time getting to know every student and parent because we want you to enjoy having your portraits created as much as we do creating them. Our goal is to work with you to create AWESOME (not just good) senior portraits that you’ll totally LOVE!

We’re Open to Your Ideas. We listen to your ideas for your portrait session and incorporate them into the portraits we create. We don’t force you into awkward, uncomfortable poses just because we’ve been doing them forever. We want to work with you to create a unique portrait collection you’ll always cherish!

Affordable, Easy to Understand Pricing. We don’t make you count up stars or points to figure out what you’re investing in your portraits. Our pricing is all in good old US dollars. Our clients tell us we’re the best value in a senior portrait studio out there, especially considering the excellent quality of our portraits!

We Give Back to our Schools. Every year, we donate thousands of dollars to our schools through our Fundraising Program and our auction donations. We’d love to donate to your favorite after school club or activity. Check out the details of our fundraising program at http://www.portraitplacegpw.com/fundraisers/index.html!

Great Promotions. In addition to our very affordable pricing, we also offer incentives for orders placed prior to December 15, 2013. Check them out on the back cover of this guide!

Our 110% Guarantee. If you’re not THRILLED (not just happy) with your portraits, we’ll retake them at no charge until you are thrilled, absolutely no questions asked. We are committed to making you our best advertising!

We hope after reading this guide, you’ll agree that The Portrait Place is the right choice for your senior portrait photo studio. If you have any questions at all, just give us a call!

Hope to see you soon,

7 Steps to Great Portraits

THE PORTRAIT PLACE · GROSSE POINTE WOODS · 313-343-9060 · WWW.GP-SENIORS.COM

1 Take the time to read this guide from cover to cover. Every single page of this guide contains tips on how you can make your senior portraits the best they can be. Take the time to learn from our years of experience in creating great senior portraits...you’ll be glad you did when you see your awesome portraits!

2 Select the creative session that’s best for you. We’ve intentionally tried to make it easy for you to decide on which portrait session is best for you by offering three indoor session options with three add-on outdoor options. Think about what really defines and is important to you and let’s preserve it as a mem-

ory of your high school years in your portraits. This is not an area on which to skimp!

3 Prepare for your creative session. This is like preparing for a final exam that will be fun to take (never had one like that before, huh?). Don’t go out and party or bake in the

sun the day before. Relax, read over the tips in this guide for getting ready again, and get a good night’s sleep!

4 Now it’s time to have a great time in front of the camera. Bring your iPod or iPhone with you and we’ll plug it in to our speaker system. Bring any props or outfits that

define the real you, and most important, bring a positive attitude. It is the single most important thing you can bring with you to your portrait session!

5 Pick up your proof book. Believe us when we tell you that you will be excited to get your proof book! We’ll let you know when it’s ready for pick-up. Bring a $90 retainer, 100% of which will be applied to

your final order when you return your proof book. Once you see your proofs, we know you’ll want to show them to all your friends. We guarantee you’ll be 110% THRILLED with your portraits or we’ll insist that we re-shoot them at no charge!

6 Place your portrait order. Make a list of relatives you’ll want to give portraits to (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) and then take the time to figure out as a family where you’ll display your favorite images at home. Measure the walls you think they’ll end up on and bring the dimensions with you. We’ll help you

properly size your favorite images for your gifts and for your home.

7 Enjoy your portraits. Believe us, once you pick up your portraits, you’ll want to get them home to share with friends and family and get everyone’s gift portraits out in the mail. Your senior portraits are most probably the last professional portraits you’ll have created until you get married, so be sure to get

them up on the wall where you can enjoy them every day!

Page 4: The Class of 2014 "Complete Guide to Awesome Senior Portraits"!

My school makes it sound like I have to go to their “official” photographer for my senior portraits. Do I have a choice? Yes! We have photographed hundreds of students from Grosse Pointe South, Grosse Pointe North, South Lake, Harper Woods, Lakeview, University Liggett, U of D High, De LaSalle and many others. Ask your friends and classmates about The Portrait Place difference!

I’ve heard that if I don’t go to the “official” photographer, my picture won’t be in the yearbook or the class picture. Is this true? Absolutely not. We work with all of the high school yearbook advisors and automatically send the image you pick to them sized to their specifications for the yearbook and the class picture. There is nothing you need to do at all — we do it all for you, all at no additional charge!

I’ve heard that the “official” pho-tographer at my school charges a lot of money. How do your prices compare? To be honest with you, most students don’t come to us for the lowest price. You can get that at WalMart. Students come to us because their friends had such a great experience with us and they and their parents absolutely loved their portraits. We do pride ourselves in having simple and affordable pricing for your portrait investment. Parents tell us often when they order their portraits that we are less expensive than what they paid for their older child at

their high school’s “official” photo studio. In addition, we have special promotions like the ones shown on the back cover of this guide that really make our senior portraits an affordable and incredible value!

When is the best time to book my portrait session appointment? Keep your life simple and schedule your portrait session for early in the summer before you get busy again with fall sport practices and other back to school activities. If you schedule your portrait session for prior to August 1, you’ll qualify for our Early Bird Specials on our Classic Plus, Ultimate and GP Outdoors portrait sessions and be able to save up to 75%!

Do I have to buy a package or can I buy exactly what I need? Like other studios, we offer portrait packages for those clients who prefer them. One of the many differences between The Portrait Place and other studios is that we don’t make you buy a package with sizes in it you don’t really want in order to get the absolute best price. You can create your own package with exactly the quantities and sizes of portraits you need and still be assured you are getting the absolute best price at The Portrait Place!

Frequently Asked Questions

THE PORTRAIT PLACE · GROSSE POINTE WOODS · 313-343-9060 · WWW.GP-SENIORS.COM

Page 5: The Class of 2014 "Complete Guide to Awesome Senior Portraits"!

Can I bring multiple outfits? Props? Uniforms? Definitely. This is one of the huge advantages of coming to The Portrait Place. You will find that most other portrait studios have all kinds of hidden extra session fees if you want to do any type of clothing, uniform or prop changes. Our Classic Plus creative sessions give you two clothing changes plus your yearbook outfit. Our popular Ultimate creative portrait session includes five (that’s right, five!) clothing, background or prop changes. Bring along different outfits, uniforms, instruments and let’s have some fun creating awesome senior portraits!

Can I bring my pet? No problem. Our Ultimate Session is made for you. When bringing a pet, you must have someone else with you to manage your pet before and after we have created the images of you with your pet.

What about if I want to bring my best friends, brother or sister for a few portraits? No problem at all—like pets, we welcome friends and relatives to our Ultimate creative sessions at no additional charge. Just let us know ahead of time so that we can plan your portrait session with enough extra time. We’ll want your friends to come in towards the end of your session so that we don’t rush in creating your personal portraits first.

Can I order my portraits in black and white as well as color? Yes. It takes a little extra time to create a stunning black and white portrait, but we don’t charge extra for it. We love to create great black and white portraits like the portrait above and the other black and white portraits in this guide. Black and white portraits have many different looks and require a little different lighting, so be sure to tell us you’re interested in black and white before your creative session. If you’ve seen a certain “look” in a magazine or book, just bring it in with you and we’ll do the rest!

I have been having problems with my skin lately. Do you retouch your portraits? Absolutely. Don’t give a second thought to bumps and skin blemishes—we’ll make them disappear at absolutely no extra charge!

I won’t be getting my braces off until late in my senior year and I don’t want them on for my senior portrait. What can I do? Our retouching artists are experts in removing braces. There is a nominal charge per image for this service.

I’d love to use one of my portraits for my Facebook profile. Can I get one from The Portrait Place? No problem at all. A Facebook image sized perfectly for your Facebook profile picture is included at NO CHARGE with all of our portrait sessions other than the Classic Yearbook and Mini Sessions.

I’d like to get digital files for the images I ordered. Can I get them from The Portrait Place? Yes. Fully retouched digital files in four different formats of any image from which you order prints are available. Pricing on digital images varies based on the format you’d like and the size of your original print order.

My high school made me believe that I had to sign up for my senior portrait a few weeks ago at school. Now that I know I have a choice, I definitely want to come to The Portrait Place. What should I do? This happens all the time once people find out about us and the totally different experience we offer our seniors when creating their portraits. Like a doctor’s office, all you have to do is call the photographer and cancel your portrait session appointment. Then, give us a call and we’ll create some stunning portraits of you and you’ll have a lot of fun in the process!

What if I have to change my creative session appointment? We understand that things come up and are happy to work with you when that happens. The only thing we ask is that you call us 48 hours ahead of time to reschedule your appointment.

What are your hours? Our studio is open from 10am to 5pm Tuesday thru Saturday, and we’re open until 7pm on Thursday.

Are there certain times of the day that are best for outdoor portraits? Yes. Depending on the location, we try to schedule our outdoor portraits for about two hours before sunset. That’s when we can get the beautiful, warm lighting that makes our outdoor portraits so special. Locations with some shade will help you avoid squinting your eyes in your portraits.

What if I’m not happy with my portraits? It doesn’t happen often, but once or twice a year we have someone who just wasn’t into getting their portrait being taken on the particular day of their creative session and the results showed it. We totally understand, and that’s why we give you our 110% you’ve-got-to-be-thrilled guarantee. If you’re not 110% thrilled — not just happy — with your portraits, we’ll re-shoot them at no charge until you are … no questions asked!

I have other questions and I want to talk to someone who really knows the their stuff. What should I do? Just give us a call at 313-343-9060. You’ll get to talk to either Mary Ann or Ahmed Ismail. We’ve got 60 years of combined experience in creating great portraits. We’ll be able to answer all your questions on the spot. If you’d like to see samples of our portraits, visit our “seniors only” website at www.gp-seniors.com or give us a call and we’ll set up a complimentary pre-portrait session consultation for you in our studio. We would welcome you and your parents to visit us to see full size samples of our awesome senior portraits in our studio at a time that works for your family.

THE PORTRAIT PLACE · GROSSE POINTE WOODS · 313-343-9060 · WWW.GP-SENIORS.COM

What About Braces? The last thing we want you to be is self conscious when we are creating your portraits. Fear of what you’ll look like in your portraits with your braces on is the single biggest culprit when it comes to this problem.

Have no fear...our retouching magicians are here!

For a nominal charge, we’ll remove your braces from any poses you’d like. Like everything else we do, we 110% guarantee you’ll love the end result, so don’t worry at all about having your portraits done while you still have your braces on. We’ll make them disappear!

Indoor Creative Sessions Your indoor creative portrait session is the time in our studio during which we create your portrait images. We try to keep things simple by offering three great choices.

The Classic Yearbook This is the portrait session during which we create your yearbook portrait and other photos while you are dressed in a classic, traditional outfit.

Unlike other studios, we don’t just take one or two head-and-shoulders portraits for your yearbook and tell you we’re done. We’ll take your head-and-shoulders portrait in a number of poses and also create some 3/4 length and full-length portraits, too.

The cost for the Classic session is only $29.

The Classic Plus This session is truly a “plus”, as it includes our Classic session plus two additional clothing, prop or background changes. With the Classic Plus, you’ll end up with an assortment of formal and casual portraits. Your two extra changes can be: your favorite casual or dressy outfits! your sports uniform, instrument or any other props!

The cost for this creative session is only $49, including one watermarked Facebook-ready profile image of your choice!

The Ultimate This is our most popular session, as it includes every-thing in the Classic Plus session and also includes the following options: two additional clothing changes (that’s a total of 5)! portraits with your pets! portraits with your best friends! portraits with your immediate family! portraits with our new high fashion lighting! weather permitting, portraits in our Back Lot!

With up to 90 minutes of high energy photography, we’re bound to capture the REAL you, all for only $69, including two watermarked Facebook-ready images!

Grosse Pointe Outdoors The Grosse Pointe Outdoors (GPO) outdoor session is a blast and like our other portrait sessions, it is all about YOU. It includes a trip to anywhere in the Pointes for an adven-ture in color and expression. Multiple clothing changes are possible depending on the location. Popular spots are our waterfront parks, beautiful backyards and the GP War Memorial. Your investment for this session is only $89!

What to Bring & Wear Preparation for your portrait creative session can make the difference between awesome senior portraits and mediocre senior portraits. Two of the biggest things most seniors wrestle with is what to wear and what to bring with them to their creative portrait session. Please take a minute and review these tips we have assembled over years of creating senior portraits with a difference.

Remember, we’re always available for a complimentary pre-portrait session visit and consultation by phone or in person to help you plan your clothing and prop choices.

The Classic Yearbook Session For the classic yearbook photo, gentlemen should wear a sport coat or suit with a tie and freshly-pressed shirt. Unlike many “official” photographers, during our classic session we will also capture 3/4 and full-length portraits at no additional charge, so please wear a nice pair of slacks, dark socks and dress shoes if you’d like these additional portraits. Ladies should wear a classic, solid dark color top with full or 3/4-length sleeves. Remember, sleeveless tops add 15 pounds to your weight. For 3/4 or full-length poses, the ladies should wear their favorite jeans, slacks or skirt.

The Classic Plus Session

For starters, bring everything listed above for the Classic Yearbook session. It is usually easier to wear your Classic Yearbook outfit to your session (guys can get their ties tied at home), then change out of it for the balance of your session.

Beyond the clothes for your Classic Yearbook portrait session, for the Classic Plus, we’d recommend that you let Mom and Dad pick at least one of your outfits, then you pick the rest. That way, everyone ends up happy!

Bring a variety of outfits in a variety of colors and we’ll help you pick out the ones that will complement your skin tones and help make the best possible portraits.

Bring clothes and props that show the real you, and that reflect your personality, skills, talents and hobbies. Choir and dance costumes, gowns, instruments, sports uniforms and any other gear that is part of your life belongs with you in some of your creative portraits.

Ladies — it’s a good idea to put your clothes on hangers with the accessories you want to wear with that outfit in a baggy attached to the hanger. This will allow you to do your clothing changes quicker, which will give us you more time with you in front of the camera. Bring something dressy, something casual or something off the wall. We’ll capture you at your absolute best in them all!

The Ultimate Session

The Ultimate Session includes everything in the Classic Plus session and also includes portraits with best friends, family and pets too. Portraits like the one above are portraits you’ll cherish for a lifetime, so be sure to bring your best friends along for your Ultimate portrait session. Best friend portraits are a lot of fun with funky clothing and accessories, so make sure all of your friends know what to bring for your session, or have them give us a call.

Pets are welcome during our Ultimate Sessions. We’ve photographed every conceiv-able pet with our students in their Ultimate sessions, from boa constrictors to tarantula spiders. If you bring your pet for your Ultimate Session, be sure to bring a friend or family member with whom your pet is comfortable to take care of them before and after they are photographed with you.

Your Ultimate Session is a great time to capture a special moment with your family members, too. Be sure to bring along your brothers and sisters for your Ultimate session and have some fun with them in front of our camera. Mom and Dad are also welcome to join you in front of the camera during your Ultimate portrait session.

Outdoor Sessions

Your “what to bring list” for your outdoor session depends totally on the season and the location for the session.

All of our outdoor sessions require planning to make them their absolute best, so be sure to allow time for a pre-session consultation with us. We’ll go over your clothing and accessory choices, clothing layering for quick changes and all of the other details that make our outdoor sessions such a blast for you, your friends and your family!

How to Prepare

THE PORTRAIT PLACE · GROSSE POINTE WOODS · 313-343-9060 · WWW.GP-SENIORS.COM

The preparation tips below will help you make the most of your creative portrait session and will help us create the absolute best portraits for you and your family.

As always, please feel free to call us with any questions you have on these preparation tips.

Haircuts and Styles. Get your hair cut two weeks before your creative session. Avoid new hair styles and heavy gel for the best portraits. Be sure to bring your hair brush.

Tanning. Excessive tanning can ruin a great portrait by adding weight to your face and creating excessive skin gloss. Avoid the sun in the days before your portrait, and avoid clothing that shows tan lines. If you really feel the need

for tanning, think about spray tanning to avoid unsightly tan lines.

Shaving. Be sure to be clean shaven for your portrait session. A five o’clock shadow doesn’t make for a great portrait and it is almost impossible to retouch it out of your portrait. Just make sure you don’t nick yourself!

Makeup. Make sure your nails are well groomed, as they may end up in your portrait. Don’t forget your toenails! Chances are, we will be taking some of your casual portraits without shoes. Bring extra mascara and lipstick for touch-ups during your creative session. Makeup should be only slightly heavier than normal. Think about how you’d wear your makeup for an evening out and that usually works fine. Lip gloss for both the guys and ladies is also a must have, so don’t forget it at home.

Skin Blemishes and Bruises. Don’t worry about bruises, bumps and skin blemishes. Our professional retouching artists will make them disappear at no extra charge.

Glasses. The absolute best way to take care of the usual problem of glass glare is to have your optometrist take out the lenses in your glass frames for the day of your creative session. Some optometrists will loan you a pair of empty frames for your portraits. If you don’t have that option, be sure to bring in glasses that don’t have “transition” lenses in them, as they still throw off a tint in your portraits (even in room lighting) that will show in your portraits.

If we do end up with some glass glare, it can always be removed from your favorite portraits for a nominal fee.

Page 15: The Class of 2014 "Complete Guide to Awesome Senior Portraits"!

Teeth and Braces. The first tip for portraits with smiles is to make sure your teeth are clean. If you want your teeth whitened or you have braces and don’t want them in your portraits, no problem; we will remedy both situations in your final images for a nominal charge.

The Night Before. Do not party! Get a good night’s rest the day before your portrait session. It can do wonders for your skin tone and your state of mind.

Bring Tunes. Bring your iPod or iPhone with your favorite play list loaded. We’ll plug it into our speaker system so that we can all listen to you favorite tunes during your portrait session.

Don’t Forget Mom or Dad. While we don’t require that Mom or Dad be present for your indoor portrait sessions, we highly recommend it. That way, you’ll have someone to give you a third opinion (we’ll always give you ours) and make sure that nothing is showing that shouldn’t be showing while we are creating your portraits. We want you to look your best in your portraits and they can be a great help. Don’t leave them home!

Positive Attitude. The most important tip we can give you is to bring a positive attitude and positive energy to your creative portrait session. If you’re having a down day, we’ll understand. Just call us ahead of time and we’ll reschedule your creative portrait session. There’s no way our retouching artists can remove a negative attitude or negative energy from your portraits!

One of the many ways we have available for you to display the best times of your life are our exclusive Memory Collage Posters.

Your job is to collect 10 to 60 of your favorite images. It doesn’t matter whether they’re digital files, old slides or old prints. Bring them into us, and we’ll scan and color correct them. Then, we put our creative talents to work to design a custom Memory Collage Poster you’ll love to share with friends and family!

Our custom designed Memory Collage Posters are sized from 16 by 20 inches up and start at just $99.

DVD Player Slide Shows

Remember the old 35mm slide shows of years past? The new version is here!

We create a new DVD player version of these great slide shows from your favorite old prints and combine them with our new portraits. Great for graduation parties, our DVD shows can feature your favorite tunes, too!

Investments start at only $99.

Graduation Announcements and Party Invitations

It used to be that your parents would buy graduation announcements from the same company who provided your cap and gown. Then, you had to purchase a wallet print to put inside the announcement. Those days are over!

The smart way to announce your graduation or invite friends and family to your graduation party is with our custom designed graduation cards!

Anything goes on our custom cards. We can include baby pictures, sports shots, drawings, a note in your own writing, you name it. Since they’re custom designed for you, there really is no limit to what we can create for you.

We offer flat or folded cards in TEN different card stock types, from photo glossy to elegant, white felt. Printing on all sides of your card is no problem for us...we do it all the time.

Stop in today and check out all of the samples we have. We know they will get your creative juices flowing!

In April 2014, our cards will be on sale. We’ll absorb the custom design fee and prices will be as low as $1.19 per card during our sale. Stop in and check them out soon!

One of the great features of our custom cards is that we print on all sides of the card.

On the card above for Jessi Aboukasm (GPS ‘12), we put her graduation announcement and party invitation on the front of the card.

Then, we put the Grosse Pointe South logo along with the U of M logo and a map to the party on the back side of the card. Pretty neat, huh?

Digital Images

Go Digital with Your Old Boxes

of Prints and Video Tapes!

Mom and Dad have boxes of old video movies and prints in the basement of you from when you were growing up. It’s time to dig them out before aging ruins them.

Every year, we transfer hundreds of video tapes to DVDs so that they can be watched on TV and convert thousands of old prints and slides to digital files so that they can be reprinted anywhere and be shared with families and friends!

Help Mom and Dad preserve the images of you while you were growing up. Bring them in to The Portrait Place today!

Facebook-Ready and

Digital Image Files If you’re like most seniors, you’re going to want to post some of your portraits on Facebook. Scans of photos don’t look that great on Facebook, so we make our Facebook-ready watermarked digital files available of any of the files for which prints are ordered. They’re available at no charge with our Classic Plus and Ultimate portrait sessions.

Digital image files of prints ordered are also available. Four different formats are available with minimum print orders of $250. Prices per digital image file vary from $13 to $95 depending on format and the amount of your original print order. Feel free to call for detailed information.

Can’t I Just Scan My Portraits?

The simple answer is NO. Since all of our image files are covered by the United States Copyright laws, you’re breaking the law when you scan our images and use the scans to make prints at home or use them online.

If you do any scanning, you know that scanned images are never as clear and crisp as one made from the digital files. That’s why we’ve come up with a way to purchase properly color corrected digital files for use online and at home.
