Program Mission: Create self-sustaining garden therapy

program; Construct physical sites to conduct

education sessions; Promote connections with outdoors in a

controlled manner; Demonstrate health and wellness benefits

of intergenerational programs; Benefit community, residents, family, staff

of CNRC.

Program Objectives: Educate/certify staff on benefits of

horticultural therapy; Training/networking opportunities for staff

with Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Program;

Improve and maintain existing garden areas; Three new gardens (Birds & Butterflies,

Sensory, and Intergenerational); Wheelchair-accessible walkways throughout

gardens; Provide tools to physically and mentally-

challenged residents.

Trial and Idea Garden

•Community-based garden has been in existence for nearly 10 years

•“Tips and Tours” educational programs take place every spring/summer

•Need to expand and provide ADA accessibility to residents and general public.
