N N E E W W S S ! ! Healthcare entering into Guinness Book of World Records: INDIA RISING!! The City Rotarians and the state Health Ministry create epoch-making healthcare project to knock on the doors of Guinness Book Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh, India): Being able to write this report is an authentic measure of my accomplishment to this honored cum rare responsibility that gave me an opportunity, to strengthen my inner desire towards women health care. Six months ago, PDG. Mr. Vivek K. Tankha (presently additional solicitor general for India) shared this dream health project in one of the meetings of Rotary club of Jabalpur, and asked me to take up responsibility of gynecology services that would be rendered during 6th-13th march 2010, Mega health camp RAHAT, jointly organized by Rotary International, Govt. of M.P., Tankha Memorial Institute for Spastic Children and NGOs of Mandla. To stand upright to his dream was all of our responsibility, the host rotarians’. Unbelievable response is what my eyes witnessed, indeed spirit in which the rural population turned up was spectacular, alarming number rolled up - almost 49,634 registrations at a week-long camp which included 2,206 major surgeries (ophthalmic, orthopedic, dental, plastic, general, gynae- surgeries); it has probably happened for the first time in the world history of mass healthcare detection and management Almost to be in Guinness Book of Records! Reaching the unreached” is the theme for year 2010 given by the Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecological societies of India; being a common mission, FOGSI, Branch Jabalpur, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, NSCB Medical College and guest gynecologists from northern India joined hands to make this event a success saga!! Nearly 5,000 women approached gynaecology out patient department. All of them received advice and medication as per need, 865 women were screened for cancer cervix by Pap smear, VIA, VILI and HPV test. Best quality of preventive medical services, such as HPV-DNA test (Hybrid capture 2) i.e. worlds’ state-of-modern care technology for the detection of cancer cervix was extended to none less than 550 women during the camp , by the support of diligent and veteran Senior Rotarians and M.P. state government. 81 women with uterine prolapse,

fibroids, ovarian mass underwent surgery by the team of gynaecologists from Chandiagarh, Dehradoon and Jabalpur .

I take great pride in acknowledging the contribution made by Rotary International former president

Mr. R. K. Saboo, PDG Rtn. Vivek K. Tankha, DG3260 Rtn. Shashi Varvandkar, Commissioner Prabhat Parashar and Collector Mandla Mr. K. K. Khare, as well as, Gentech Diagnostic National Reference Laboratory for providing HPV test at subsidized rates.

I truly extend my sincere thanks to Dr. R. Dhirawani, Dr. J. Jamdar, Dr. S. Naik, President FOGSI Jabalpur, Dr. S. Khare, Head of the Department, Obst & Gyn. NSCB Medical College Jabalpur, Nodal Officer Gyn. Services, Dr R. Shrivastav, Father Ebraham, Mission hospital Katra, PPRtn. Baldeep Maini, and all my Rotarian friends from Jabalpur and Mandla for their extended support to make this event memorable for a lifetime. The post-graduate students Brajesh, Namrta, Monika would be remembered as unsung heroes always.

Esteem presence of FOGSI President India, Dr Sanjay Gupte and Dr. Girija Wagh added to our enthusiasm.

I thank the almighty for blessing me with this one of a lifetime opportunity to have served the most required class of rural India; instead an opportunity to blend social arm of services with investigative science in the field of preventive gynaec. oncology and general gynaecology care of the needy tribal women of Mandla, M.P., India.
