We are off to a new and busy year. Already the 2015 calendar has a full slate of events. German Excel-lence is sponsoring a full year’s schedule of Auto-cross events for the Florida Citrus Club. The first half of the year’s schedule is set for January 18th, March 15, April 5, May 17 and June 7 at the Lake County Sheriffs facilities in Tavares. Watch Clubregistration.net for open registration. We are accepting registra-tions for the January event so please sign up now. Our High Performance Drivers Education will kick off with a seminar for new drivers on January 17th at Zotz Racing. This is an introduction seminar about HPDE for anyone interested in knowing what it takes to prepare and to become involved with driving their P-Car on a race track. Registra-tion is at clubregistration.net. This event precedes our Instructor day and HPDE event for all drivers at Roebling Road Raceway February 13-15th. Regis-tration is open for these events on clubregistration.net so please sign up today. All level of drivers are welcome. Instructors are provided for new drivers. Also, Florida Citrus Porsche Club will join other Re-gional PCA clubs in sponsoring the Porsche Corral at the Rolex 24 Hours January 22-25th at the Day-tona International Speedway. There will be refresh-ments and plenty of activities at the Corral during the race weekend so plan to come by and partici-pate. Advance parking passes are required to park in the corral. On January 29th through February 1st is the 48 Hours at Sebring, the largest PCA Club Race of the year. Additionally there will be a Driver’s Education opportunity to drive the track during the week-end for advanced drivers. For racers or drivers you need to register in advance. For observers, you can make it a day trip to Sebring to watch and just en-joy watching the races free of charge. The paddock and viewing areas are open to the public. The annual Chili Cook Off will be held on February 7th at Porsche of Orlando, 7:00 pm. For our rally enthusiasts, we are planning two Chal-

lenge Rally’s this year, the first on March 1st. These fun rally’s, driving the back roads of Cen-tral Florida benefit our clubs charity, the Russell Home for Atypical Children. Please place this event on your calendar. Ad-ditional information will be sent to you via our club email. Please remember our monthly meetings. We nor-mally meet the first Monday of each month and our meetings are held at either Porsche of Orlando in Maitland or Southeast Performance in Winter Park. More than 100 members joined together at Southeast Performance in Winter park to celebrate the Holidays at our annual Holiday Party. Rick Vimmerstedt, our hoist at Southeast Performance catered the event with a variety of meats and a food selection that was fabulous. Also, there was plenty of delicious hor dourves , drink and des-ert choices.

The party was the concluding event of the 40th Anniver-sary year for the Florida Citrus Porsche Club and all past presidents and club officers in attendance were recog-nized. Sue Belt who concluded her service as Secretary of the club was presented a framed Certificate of Apprecia-tion and Lisa Lewis, club Vice President was awarded for the second year in a row, the Enthusiast of the Year award.

Also recognized were all our volunteers for the numerous events that the club sponsored throughout the year in-cluding Zonefest in Mount Dora and the Porsche Escape to Magical Orlando. The evening concluded with a raffle of shirts, 40th Anniversary commemorative glasses and other items.

In addition the club collected contributions and toys for the Russell Home for atypical Children. Close to $3000 was collected along with a large box of toys.

We thank Bert and Anne Del Villano for the party planning and administration. It was a great time of fellowship and celebration. Can’t wait for next year.

Florida Citrus Region is hosting an Instructor School2/13 and DE 2/14-15

at Roebling Road Raceway.

The events are listed separately at www.clubregistration.org. Registration is open now. Please sign up. Space is limited. The School is open to all solo drivers with run groups for those who may want to qualify as a PCA Certified Instructor as well as those who want to have the opportunity to advance their driving skills. Current PCA Instructors should consider attending to act as mentors and to also improve their skills.

The DE is a 2 day driving event focused on developing high performance driving skills for all drivers. Instruc-tors will be provided for all students in the Green (novice)and Blue (advanced novice) groups. In addition to track events your admission also includes a social on Friday evening at the host hotel, the Wingate, Savannah Airport (912-544-1180. Mention FLC DE for $79 rate. Plus, we will return to Logan’s Road House Restaurant for a delicous dinner and bench racing on Saturday, starting at about 6:00. Cost is $30 and includes a beverage. Please sign up while registering.

Registration will be at the hotel on Friday starting about 6:00 PM, and at track on Saturday morning. Tech for “street” cars will be at the Wingate Friday after 6, and at the track Saturday morning. Tech for “trailer” cars will be at the track on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Gates open at 5:00 PM Friday and at 7:00 AM Satur-day and Sunday. Remember, no loud motors at RRR during quiet times (8:00 PM to 8:00 AM).

2015 Cayenne GTS

Stuttgart. The new Cayenne GTS announces its out-standing sporting character in its very name. The letters GTS go back to the famous 904 Carrera GTS of 1963. In 2007, the Cayenne GTS became the first Porsche of the modern era to revive the acronym. Since then GTS has stood at Porsche for especially sporty models. At the same time, the new entry-lev-el model with the familiar 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine rounds off the Cayenne portfolio at the lower end of the range.

It is not only the name of the Cayenne GTS that is res-onant. The 3.6-litre V6 bi-turbo engine is the perfor-mance-oriented enhancement of the new power unit presented in the Cayenne S. Its consumption is lower and it delivers improved levels of performance. Com-pared to the previous model with a V8 naturally aspi-rated engine, power output rises by 20 hp to 440 hp and torque by 85 Nm to 600 Nm, while fuel consump-tion goes down by up to 0.9 l/100 km. The Cayenne GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, or just 5.1 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono pack-age. That’s 0.5 and 0.6 seconds respectively less than the previous model. Top speed is 262 km/h. As stan-dard it has a sports exhaust system, which provides the familiarly meaty GTS sound.

Thanks not least to its suspension the Cayenne GTS captivates drivers with its unmistakable lateral dy-namics. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping system has a sporty set-up. With the standard steel-spring suspension the vehicle sits 24 millimetres lower, while with the optional air suspension it’s 20 millimetres. Further standard fea-tures include the brakes from the Cayenne Turbo with 390-millimetre discs on the front axle (358 millimetres at the back), inclusive of brake callipers painted red in typical turbo fashion.

Other design attributes also turn the Cayenne GTS externally into a sporty vehicle. As standard it has the turbo nose section with large air intakes and the Sport Design package, including more contoured side sills and wheel arch extensions. The latter, like the roof spoiler and lower rear of the vehicle, are painted in the car body colour. The colour black provides some striking contrasts: all lettering is black, as are the 20-inch wheels in the RS Spyder design, the exhaust tail-pipes, the bi-xenon headlights’ inner apertures and the fittings of the darkened LED rear lights. There’s a new feature on the front doors: striking GTS lettering.


The sporting character continues on the inside. Eight-way electrically ad-justable GTS sports seats in leather/Alcantara upholstery, including GTS lettering on the headrests, are fitted as standard. Alcantara is the predomi-nant upholstery material used inside the car. The interior GTS package is optionally available in carmine red or rhodium silver with rev counter face, decorative stitching, headrest lettering and safety belts in contrasting colour.

The engine used in the Cayenne, the new base model, is the familiar 3.6-litre V6 naturally aspirated engine, deliver-ing 300 hp. It accelerates the Cayenne from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds – 7.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chro-no package. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than before. At 230 km/h, top speed matches the level of the previ-ous model.

Compared to the previous model the new Cayenne also offers more comprehensive standard features. In

addition to the new eight-speed Tiptronic S with Auto Stop/Start and coasting functions these also include, for instance, the bi-xenon main headlights with four-point LED daytime driving lights, the multi-function sports steering wheel with paddle switches and the au-tomatic boot lid.

The German Excellence autocross season for 2015 kicks off on Sunday, January 18. Registration for the FLC 1/18 AX will be open at www.clubregistration.net, and is still only $30, payable at the site, including lunch. A $5 discount (making the total $25) is offered for those that pre-register and pay before the event.

The event will be held at Tavares Sheriff Training Facility. We will run an exciting course on the big lot. Gates open at 7:00 and on site registration closes at 8:30. Please preregister.

If you are an experienced autocrosser, you know the FLC series offers friendly competition and great camaraderie. If you have not done an autocross, please join us. We offer a fun, safe environment in which you can drive your Porsche the way the engineers designed it. We welcome novices, women, and young drivers (over 16 with a valid license). In-structors and loaner helmets are available.

The meeting was called to order by President Lyn Perez who pointed out the standing reports on the agenda. Financially we are at $62,773.16 plus $15,483.62 for Club Race and $11,239.44 in CR.net, that includes $7,819.04 for Escape 2014. A full ac-counting for Escape expenses will be provided at the next meet-ing. Membership is at 946, (580 PM; 366SM). New members at the meeting were Gary Everly and Mark Hide.

Event planners had hoped for 10-11,000 guests. They are trying to attract more important cars for a more national/international event.

• JohnHurst,HSRChaplin,saidthatabout1/3ofthedriversat the Nov. 15-16 HSR in Daytona were from Europe. There were 11 962s the most ever assembled at one race. It all ran like clockwork. There were six run groups which ran 4 times each in 45 minute stints. Hurley Haywood and other top drivers past and present attended. They want about two years between the events now. The weather was great. Ron Branom, Randy Proudfit and Ron Zitza also won their races.

It is designed to teach you the limits of your car and how to apply driving principles to street driving. He needs volunteer coaches. There will be a wet skid pad in use to experience steering and spins, in a slick but controlled circumstance. He is reserving 6-8 of the 30 spots for 16-18 year olds. Kevin is a state police instructor.

New Business• Lyn said that they finished the new construction on the

Porsche Orlando showroom. We will meet at the dealership for our January meeting but will be going back and forth between there and Southeast performance so watch your e-mails for meeting location each month.

President Lyn Perez, immediately thanking Emilio of Porsche of Orlando for hosting, called the meeting to order. Our number of current members stands at 943 (579 Primary and 364 Secondary). The finances of the club is currently: Checking $9,189.27, Savings $36,714.22, Club Race $15,483.62, CR.net $6,780.30 (Feb DE and school). The total amount is $71,598.05. There was a $7,500 loss due to the 2014 Porsche Es-cape.

Other Events:Feb 14th – There is an annual Swap Meet in Coral Springs followed by a Tech Session focusing on the IMS issue affecting Boxsters, Caymans, and 996 model 911s, hosted by the Gold Coast Region.

Question regarding a Collier Museum visit. Due to re-strictions placed by the museum, only small groups are allowed with the site only open on certain days.A request was made for other members to open their garages for tours and viewing.
