Gratitude

Pastor Victor Shepherd tells the story of a missionary surgeon he met who was rather gruff and to the point. On one occasion, the surgeon was speaking to a small group of university students about his work in the Gaza Strip. He was telling us that we North American "fat cats" knew nothing about gratitude. Nothing! On one occasion, he had stopped by a peasant hovel to see a woman on whom he had performed surgery. She and her husband were dirt poor. Their livestock supply consisted of one Angora rabbit and two chickens. For income, the woman combed the hair out of the rabbit, spun the hair into yarn and sold it. For food, she and her husband ate the eggs from the chickens. The woman insisted that the missionary surgeon stay for lunch. He accepted the invitation and said he would be back for lunch after he had gone down the road to see another postoperative patient. An hour and a half later, he was back. He peeked into the cooking pot to see what he was going to eat. He saw one rabbit and two chickens. The woman had given up her entire livestock supply--her income, her food, everything. He concluded his story by reminding us that we knew nothing of gratitude. He wept unashamedly. The incident will stay with me forever,” he said.

There is another incident concerning gratitude that will never be forgotten. It's about a woman who poured costly perfume over our Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair. Make no mistake--the perfume was expensive, three hundred denarii, a year's income for a laborer in Palestine, enough to keep a family alive for twelve months.

¡Caminado con Jesús!

Pensando en voz alta…….

El bautismo nos libera de la esclavitud del pecado y nos hace participes de la promesa de la redención.

Al igual que Lázaro desatado de las vendas que ataba su cuer-po al sepulcro, nosotros también recibimos una nueva vida en el Señor.

Al celebrar hoy juntos podríamos considerar esas partes en nosotros que necesitamos morir al pecado para poder vivir de una manera nueva en Cristo.

¡Que el Señor nos resucite…..como lo hizo con su amigo Láza-ro!

El Evangelio de Lázaro termina con la frase “muchos de los Judíos que habían ido a casa de Marta y María al ver lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él”

“Pero algunos de ellos fueron a ver a los fariseos y les con-taron lo que había hecho Jesús”

En ese momento las autoridades cayeron en la cuenta de que su cómoda relación con Roma estaba en peligro por la relevan-cia que Jesús estaba cobrando. “Por lo tanto, desde aquel día tomaron la decisión de matarlo”

Al recobrarle la vida a ese hombre que amaba, Jesús indirec-tamente trajo la muerte para sí mismo.

Para Jesús la vida que el da es mayor que su propia vida. Este es el último de los “signos” que Juan relata, un signo no solo de la capacidad de Jesús para dar una vida nueva a un amigo querido, sino de su disponibilidad para sacrificar su propia vida para darnos una vida nueva a todos nosotros.

Adán era solo una masa humana de barro hasta que Dios le soplo en las narices un aliento de vida. Los huesos secos en la visión de Ezequiel estaban esparcidos en un páramo hasta que el espíritu de Dios los hizo revivir.

Los seres humanos murieron y su vida termino en el sepulcro hasta que Jesús, que es la resurrección y la vida, hizo que to-dos los que creen en él superen la muerte.

A través de toda la historia del mundo Dios da la vida.

Los quiero, reciban mi bendición y no se les olvide orar por mí.

St. Mary’s students and staff would like to say thank you to the KC’s for their donation. The money was used to purchase new items for the PE department, including dodge balls, pickle ball nets, and birdies. The Kindergarten room received four wobble chairs, and the 3rd, 4/5th, and 6th grade rooms received new white boards. Pictured are a few students enjoying some of the new items. “I thank my God for you every time I think of you; and every time I pray for you all, I pray with joy because of the way in which you helped me in the work of the gospel from the very first day until now.” Philippians 1:3-5 The Spring Session of MAP testing will begin on Monday. Please make sure your children are well-rested and have had a good breakfast so that they can do their best. Students in kinder-garten through sixth grade are tested in the areas of math and reading. Students in third through sixth grade also take a lan-guage arts test.

SCRIP hours are after the 5:30 & 9:00 weekend Masses & Thursdays at school from 12:30 to 1:30.
