TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 22, 2019

Make a choice. God or money, material things, earthly pleasure. This is what Jesus asks us to do in today’s Gospel. The Pharisees and scribes, and many people, want it both ways. God and wealth. But Jesus knows that “no servant can serve two masters.” It is not that wealth is inherently bad, but the pursuit of it to the exclusion of what is good and righteous is. Our faith is meant to guide and shape the way we live. If we are followers of Jesus Christ, we will treat others, especially the poor and vulnerable, fairly and justly. We will live with devotion to God and let our lives speak the truth of God’s love for all. We will put first things first, or more precisely, put God and God’s ways first, assured that when we do, everything else will fall into place.

STEWARDS OF GOD’S GOODNESS

Jesus tells us that we must be trustworthy with what belongs to another. All we are and all we have is God’s. Our lives, faith, talents, relationships, material and financial wealth—all are gifts from God, entrusted to us. We are called to steward them well, to be trustworthy with our many blessings, in order to bring Christ’s love and presence into the world. The way we live our lives, the choices we make, the way we respond to the needs of others—all of this is a stewardship, a way of serving God, not mammon.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY Parents, Children's Liturgy team needs your help. We will resume Children's Liturgy on Sunday 9/22/2019 at 9:00 & 10:15 AM Masses in the Parish Church. Families come to Mass & after the Sign of the cross the children in grades K through 4 are invited to go with trained liturgists to the Shrine Hall. They will continue with the Prayer of Sorrow & hear the Gospel read & explained in words they understand. They will think of how they will follow the message from the Gospel during the week. PARENTS ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD(REN) TO JOIN OUR CHOIR! In a few weeks, rehearsals for St. Anthony’s Junior Choir will begin. All boys and girls in grad.es 3-12 are invited. Not only will your child(ren) be receiving an invaluable experience in music education, they also have the opportunity to learn more about the liturgy, and to serve as leaders. By singing in a choir, children “will be better prepared for their eventual role as adult members of the worshiping assembly” (STL55) . SHRINE TO THE UNBORN AT ST. ANTHONY’S - A Shrine to the Unborn is installed in St. Anthony’s Shrine Church. The centerpiece of the shrine is an image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. A Book of Life is enshrined there. Those who have suffered the loss of an unborn child, through stillbirth, miscarriage or abortion, or of a child who lived for just a short time, may have his or her name inscribed in the Book. H.A.N.D.S. (Healing and Nurturing Distraught Survivors) H.A.N.D.S. sponsors a BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP for parents who have lost a child. It is facilitated by Ann Carucci, founder of H.A.N.D.S. who lost her son & daughter–in-law in a boating accident. Their bodies were never recovered. All groups meet from 6:30 to 8:00pm. It will be held at International Headquarters, 9 Scott Drive, New City, NY 10956. The next meetings are October 2nd & 15th. Services are free of charge. Ann is also available for personal one-on-one counseling sessions. H.A.N.D.S also now has a WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS GROUP facilitated by Ann Carucci, who lost her husband. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE BEGINS SEPT. 25 Join those throughout the Archdiocese of New York who will unite in prayer to end abortion during the 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign. The Rockland vigil will begin Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 3 pm on public property on Perlman Drive in Spring Valley. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful, highly focused, nondenominational initiative of prayer and fasting outside abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood offices. Many women have turned away from these clinics and chosen life during these 40 days. The program has touched and saved the lives of many here in the archdiocese — mothers, children, abortion workers, and parishioners alike. It will run through Nov. 3. Every 20 seconds an unborn child is aborted in the United States. In the 30 years since Roe vs. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand, the death toll has reached over 55 million. But the statistics do not document the other casualties: the mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends who are emotionally and spiritually affected. The Rachel ministry is a CONFIDENTIAL ministry for those scarred by abortion, miscarriage or stillbirth. Come and heal every third Monday of the month at the Marian Shrine in the Cafeteria Building in West Haverstraw, at 7:00pm. The next meeting is on October 21st.
