Building Intercultural Competence
for Ministers
The Diocese of Trenton will offer a series of training on
“Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers”. The
content of these presentations is designed to offer ministry
leaders an opportunity to achieve a basic level of awareness
and proficiency in the area of intercultural minis-
try. Participants will learn to define culture and identify ways
in which culture influences communication. They will identi-
fy effective pastoral responses, principles, and practices that
will contribute and shape ministry in intercultural settings.
Pastoral leadership requires adequate skills in
intercultural competence.
$15 Registration fee includes lunch and workbook. Please
make your check to: Diocese of Trenton.
Financial assistance will be provided if needed.
It is important that each ministry leader and at least some
members of each ministry attend the seminar, especially
the sessions on April 9. St. Isaac Jogues is the host.
April’s Work of Mercy Suggestion
from the Diocese of Trenton
“Visit the Imprisoned”
Some people feel a “Call” to visit and minister to the
imprisoned. If you sense such a “Call”, you can con-
tact Fr. Martin McGeough, C.M. Coordinator for the
Jail & Prison Ministry. He can put you in contact with
groups that are already involved. If you only wish to
communicate, there are Pen Pal groups to which he can
steer ou. You can also support the Diocese Office
through a donation which can provide rosaries, spiritual
books etc. for the inmates. “Visit the Imprisons”
in this Year of Mercy.

FAQ—Frequently Asked Questions about Faith in Our Future:
Who are the members of the Diocesan Planning Commission?
The twenty or so members of the Diocesan Planning Commission are priests, deacons, women religious, lay men
and women from all four counties of the diocese who have been identified because of their
experience in the parish, school and ministry setting, as well as their professional expertise. Each was
specifically invited to serve by Bishop O’Connell in order that the Diocese might assemble a group with a wide
variety of church, education, and business perspectives. The group will meet several times for
formation before they begin their work. Their names and a brief profile of each member will be posted on the
diocesan website and in The Monitor in April.
What is the role of the Diocesan Planning Commission?
They will review the suggestions that come from the cohorts in June in light of the goals of the Faith in the
Future process, and return preliminary recommendations to the cohorts with a rationale. After the
cohorts have taken a few weeks for further study and comment, the Diocesan Planning Commission will meet again
in October to review the cohort responses and bring together a set of final recommendations for the Bishop to
consider.
