So, those pesky, little Scripture passages that take about ‘a day of rest’ more often than not get ignored by me. I was delighted when I was asked to be a part of Sonshine camp. I haven’t been a part of the camping program in years, so I was excited to go…I really was, Debbie! I noticed something happen to me when I made the final turn to the camp and started the descending into the canyon. I felt my body begin to relax. The cares and concerns of the day and weeks past seemed to melt away. I began to feel at peace. While all three of our camps are dear to my heart (Crosspoint was the place where I heard my call to ministry), Canyon Camp has become “home” to me. So many wonderful memories are at that place. God is there too! While I know we believe that God is present everywhere, for me, at least, there is a little higher concentration of God’s Spirit at Canyon Camp. It was hot and muggy! The busyness of having sixty-six upcoming 1 st and 2 nd grad- ers in a small space was almost overwhelming but there was a peace for me during those two days that I have not experienced in a while. I was able to rest which was something I needed…desparately! Too many times, we believe that we are better than God. We don’t need to rest! There is too much on our calendars, too many things to accomplish, to many “to - do’s” or “honey-do’s” that we just don’t have time to shut down for a few moments and enjoy the peace. My friends, after a seemingly effortless creation, God took a day of rest and we need to do the same! Clear your calendar two days a month and do something you enjoy doing, turn off the television (there isn’t much there anyway) and watch a sun- set. Go out after the sun has gone down and look into the night sky…play with your children or grandchild but do something to rest and relax. The prophet Isaiah said it beautifully when he conveyed the following words: God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:29-31) May each of us find “rest” in the coming days! In Christ’s Peace, Pastor Mark

SONSHINE CAMPS 2018

The Seminole First SonShine Camp Team has been providing Son-Shine Camps at Canyon Camp and Cross Point Camp for 9 years. This year we served 162 people from 22 churches. Camp Team mem-bers are Debbie Hallum & Donna Magruder — Deans; Mark Hallum, Cansas & Rachel Pate, Linda Swearingen, Lisa Watson, and Rev. Mark Watson — Leaders. Also at Canyon Camp were Dayna Grandstaff, Shepherd; and campers Danae Hodges and Gabe Watson. Pastor Mark and Lisa were added to our Seminole Camp Team this year, and they were wonderful! They added a lot of fun times at all activities — and Pastor Mark led communion during closing worship, as well as leading “Singing in the Rain” as only he can do! We are already looking forward to next year!!

Calling all students: college to pre-K! School begins soon, and we want to help this year to get started on the right foot. Therefore, on Sunday, Au-gust 5th we are asking that each of you bring your backpack to church and during the Children’s Moment we will take time to pray for you and the new school year! We will be asking for God’s protection and wisdom for each of you, so do you best to make sure you are here.

SUPER SUNDAY SCHEDULE

Prayer time for School Personnel Also, on August 5th, we will take time during the worship service to pray for the personnel of the school represented in our congregation! We want ALL of our teachers, principals, administrative and support staff plus our school board members to be present that Sunday! If you know someone in the above categories that doesn’t attend church, then invite them to be your guest on the first Sunday of August! Hope to see you here!

While the van has been used a couple of times (and is available to pick peo-ple up Sunday morning), it still needs to be broken in with a road trip! So that’s what we are going to do and what better way to break in the van than a trip to a great place to eat. Therefore, we will head to the Hen House in Okemah on Friday, August 17th! We will leave the church at 5:30pm and who knows when we will return. The first 13 people to sign-up will have a place on the van, but more people can go but you will have to procure you own mode of transportation. Deadline to reserve your spot is Friday, August 10th so we can let the restaurant know how many are coming. This is going to be fun, so plan on joining us!

APPORTIONMENTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. . .

Our next movie night will be Saturday, August 4th and will begin at 8pm. There will be hot dogs, chips and drinks ready

at 7:30pm. We will gather under the covered portion of the garage, so you will need to bring lawn chairs, blan-kets or whatever you want to sit on while you enjoy the show. This is going to be fun, so make plans to be here…maybe even invite someone to join you! The movie will be announced at a later date so watch the “End of Week” email or listen for an announcement on Sunday!
