First Foundation: The God of peace will sanctify you completely. God of Peace: We now have peace with God (Romans 5:1). This echoes back to the Old Testament, reminding people of the well- being that God provided for them. God wants to be our God of peace right now. Who is doing the work? God of Peace Himself (Philippians 1:6) Sanctify—set apart for God’s exclusive use (Warren Wiersbe) Positional sanctification (Hebrews 10:14)—Jesus’ sacrifice has made you perfect forever while you are being made holy. Practical sanctification (2 Corinthians 7:1)—Believers depend on and cooperate with the Holy Spirit to work in us, to live out the gospel, to cut sin off, and to deal with the deeper issues. Perfect sanctification (1 John 3:2)—This happens when we see Jesus and become eternally like Him. Second Foundation: God is the one who keeps us blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Greek for blameless: amemptos—with no legitimate ground for accusation; to be free from fault or defect You are not blameless because of you. You are blameless because of Christ. He transferred His blameless status to you when He hung and bled and died on a cross. How does He do it? How does He keep us blameless? He put His Spirit in us to keep us (Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22). He put us in the church (1 Corinthians 12). He gave us His Word. (2 Peter 1:4). The Church at Her Best: Solid Foundation 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28 Joe Testa, College & Young Adult Pastor May 24, 2020 Third Foundation: God is faithful. The faithfulness of God means that God will do what He said He will do. We need to know what he has promised us and just as importantly, what He hasn’t promised us. The prayer that Paul offers is based on God’s character. God is trustworthy in every respect and so all believers are secure in him. We have invincible confidence, as our hope does not rest on our own efforts to live up to God’s standards, but on the faithfulness of God, who never fails to fulfil his promises or to keep his covenant. In other words, it is not our feeble hold of God that makes us secure, but God’s strong hold of us. That is why our hope is not in vain. That is why we need not fear the approaching Day of Judgement. Our certainty is wrapped up in God, who will complete what he has begun. Our sanctification and preservation are guaranteed in him.” ~Tim Shenton
