The Xmas Tree at the Lagoon in Rio - 2012

The floating Xmas tree at the Lagoon has become an iconic symbol of Rio and in 2012 it stands 279 ft tall.

With the height of a 28-story building, it is the tallest floating Xmas tree in the world, so says Guinness.

Its structure of 542 tons is supported by 11 floating barges, 39 ft each.


3.31 million micro lamps were used, as well as 394,000 ft of rope lighting.

The lighting special effects are made by 100 LED spotlights of red, green, blue and white.
