The Christmas StoryPart 2

It is so easy to get distracted by all of the activities surroundingChristmas: preparing for time off work, traveling to see family, diggingout family recipes and, of course, shopping. There is nothing wrong withall of that, although some people spend money they dont have. Theproblem is that all these things can quickly distort or completely blot outthe actual spiritual conflict which occurred around the birth of Christ. Wemust strip away the traditions and added definitions given to us by cultureand assumption, and examine the Word of God afresh to find out that the

birth of Christ was a strategic and emphatic move from God against thedarkness that required a powerful prophetic people to live upon the earth.

Matt 2:9 the star they had seen inthe east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where thechild was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 Oncoming to the house, they saw thechild with his mother Mary, andthey bowed down and worshipedhim. Then they opened theirtreasures and presented him with

gifts of gold and of incense and ofmyrrh. 12 And having been warnedin a dream not to go back to Herod,they returned to their country byanother route. 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lordappeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the childand his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, forHerod is going to search for the child to kill him." 14 So he got up,took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled whatthe Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." (NIV)

In theprevious article in this series we saw how the darkness responded:disinformation, plots involving genocidal rage, a corrupt and undiscerningchurch all of this was an attempt to keep mankind locked down intomortality and death. These verses, referred to especially at Christmas timeactually describe a violent clash of kingdoms: Light vs. darkness, both ofwhich used intelligence to outmaneuver the other.

The Prophetic as IntelligenceBeing prophetic is not just having a gift that operates in the Church, it isbeing connected to God in order to be piloted from the next realm so thatwe can live correctly here upon the earth. Nothing that darkness

perpetrates can stop the people of God from moving the earth forwardtowards Divine purpose. Though satanic systems try to resist and thwart

divine purpose, the prophetic is given to ensure that, as the people of God,we can partner with God to accomplish His will. Note the numerous waysthat the prophetic manifested itself in this series of events around Christsbirth:

Actionable Intelligence. Matthew 2:12 And having been warned in adream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by anotherroute. The Lord gave the wise men clear intelligence regarding Herodsmotivation and his true purposes, and they acted on this insightimmediately. Instead of returning to Herod or traveling back by the sameroute, they avoided the surveillance assigned by the state. The ability togather and correctly assess the intentions of foreign governments is avaluable commodity that nations pay enormous sums to acquire, but eventhen they often fail. This was the issue behind the flawed CIA intelligenceregarding that Iraq possessed WMDs, something President Bush saidrepresented his greatest regret in office (see December 1 interview withCharles Gibson / ABC video / transcript).

Political Refugee. Matthew 2:13 An angel of the Lord appeared to Josephin a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escapeto Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for thechild to kill him."God also warned Joseph in a dream of the impendingassassination attempt of the boy, and told Joseph to flee with his familyand reside under the jurisdiction of a foreign government where therewere no warrants for his arrest and probably no treaties of extradition.

Jesus lived in Egypt as a ruler in exile while waiting for the existingadministration to perish.

Evading Homeland Security. Matthew 2:14 So he got up, took the childand his mother during the night and left for Egypt. The familysmigration from Israel to Egypt was done covertly at night in order toavoid the border and customs checkpoints that would trip the homelandsecurity mechanisms of the state. Elijah had a similar experience whenAhab and all of his mechanisms of state couldnt find the prophet in morethan three years of intense searching, even though he was located less than100 miles due North from Ahabs palace. As a Jew and a prophet living inthe home of a single Gentile woman in Zarephath (modern day Syria)

There were multiplied

manifestations of the

prophetic: the wise men

were warned in a dream,

Joseph also had multiple

dreams, and all acted in

obedience to the revealed

will of God. These things

teach us of the need for

the Church to embrace a

Prophetic Dimension that

has the capacity to govern

and shape every dimension

of life. Events cannot

happen within the financial

systems of the earth, in

major elections or within

global trends without ourd i s c e r n m e n t a n d

knowledge of how it fits

into Gods one purpose for

the whole earth. We must

be Prophetic so we can live

and act wisely upon the

earth!

This verse is in total contrast to the Roman and Herodic political leadershipwhich was so abusive in their use of power. Rome colonized and imposedimperial policy upon far flung subjects and extracted tribute to build uptheir imperial center. Herod was murderous and so acutely aware of anythreat to his power that he ruthlessly committed mass genocide. But theRuler of the whole earth is a shepherd, which is the Greek word poimen,which means to tend to a sheep, or to nurture and feed the flock.

In other words, the role of leaders is to care for the people and to lead theminto correctness, so the use of power must always be for the purpose ofhuman development. Jesus is the lamb who sits on the throne anexpression of ultimate power (the throne) couched in perfect gentleness andcare (the lamb). Christs birth into the earth is a radical re-definition of political leadership, and a tacit denunciation of oppressive forms of rulewhich have subjugated man down through the ages. The earth longs for thetime when correct rule is restored by the King of all kings!!
