What a year to be in the beef cattle industry! We all have been so blessed to have been part of what is to be a record breaking year for our end product, Beef! People, no matter where you travel, have what I call “the taste for good beef” again, and it is about time!

With Jon not as involved in the ownership and day to day activities here at Janssen Farms, you will notice that the footnotes and such will be much less detailed and long! :-) We feel we have reached a point in the maturity of this program that the cow families have and will continue to speak for themselves.

We would like to congratulate all of the juniors and their families for the successes that they have had with their purchases from last year’s sale! It is truly humbling to sit on the sidelines and watch these families work so hard on their projects and be so successful. We are truly proud to serve as your source for high qual-ity show stock.

The primary focus of the program has been and always will be to produce cattle that combine performance and style. I think we have proven that you can have both. The spring bull sale was a huge success, and that is proof positive that these fancy show heifers and donor prospects have the “genes” to POUND the SCALES in a pretty package! Please take the opportunity while you are at the farm to go through the bull development facility at Dave’s to see 75 of the most impressive “HERD BULL” prospects anywhere in the nation. All of these females have brothers and they will be for sale next spring in our Scale Buster Bull Sale in March.

We need to thank all of the great friends and neighbors that help us out here at the farm every day, and this year more than ever, with Mom’s fight with cancer. Don Guthridge is not only a partner in a lot of cattle around here, but also a dear friend that has sacrificed a lot of time helping break and prepare these calves, thanks Don for everything! Brent Hall we have always said is more like a brother, and he also has put in more time than ever helping with harvest, weaning and processing bulls! Paul, Mary and Terra Clutter are the day to day manag-ers of the Angus division and have helped so much it is hard to express our thanks. Scott Wiley will once again, along with Brent, head up the NAILE and American Royal show team. We are selling one of the true “bread and butter” donors we have ever had here at Janssen Farms. 4404 has been one of the most consistent producers of top show heifers, steers and bulls. The great thing about her is that she will add “HAIR” to every mating, and her steer calves are stout, heavy boned and easy to sell. We have never flushed her to Monopoly or Heat Wave, simply because we wouldn’t know how to sell the calves, but someone who has the market for show steers can make some serious money on this cow if they choose to do so. One of the reasons I label her a “bread and butter” cow is that she is almost a sure bet big time embryo producer and as Chris says on flush day you can always count on her to “fill the recips with fresh eggs!” A.I.
