Accomplishments: Last 12 Months

1. The Pilot: The Palm Beach Project2. Established 17 regional committees throughout Florida3. Held 17 “Milk Party” rallies across the state4. Reached more than 15,000 Floridians5. Achieved media coverage statewide and national coverage on CNN6. Identified five key issue priorities 7. Organized a lobbying campaign in Tallahassee 8. Established a bipartisan 27-member statewide steering committee9. Built a following of 235,000 Floridians via integrated communications10.Generated interest in organizing Children's Movements in other states

2011 Legislative Platform

1. Access to quality health care.• Additional 19,000 - slots for KidCare and the $35 million

necessary to fund it.

2. Screening and treatment for special needs• Early Steps received $8 million in funding through the leadership

of The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Broward Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center, the Special Need Advisory Council and a host of dedicated organizations and individuals.

3. Genuine quality pre-kindergarten.• School Readiness and VPK will remain together housed within

the Department of Education.• Despite this bright spot, Florida’s already underfunded VPK

program was cut by an additional $20 million.

4. Real support and information for parents.• New money was nearly impossible to find. The creation of a

“Parent Portal” never gained traction this session.

5. High-quality mentoring programs.• $6 million cut in funds allocated to high-quality mentoring

programs. Almost a 40% reduction from funds allocated in 2010.• Governor’s Mentoring Initiative eliminated. • The Big Brothers Big Sisters’ BIG Alliance successfully secured a

$300,000 increase in funding.
