Everyone waves, everyone cheers them on, and everyone appreciates the hard work of the farmers especially during this season of harvesng – even if they miss church a me or two or fall asleep in the pews. We never even bother to wake them up except for the offering, because most of the me they are the ones taking up the offering! As I’ve said before, the farmers work hard. But what I appreciate most is their atude of gratude. They have this bigger sense of God in creaon and their connecon to God through creaon. They are de- pendent on the weather, they are dependent on God for their wellbeing through good mes and bad. And their annual giſts to the church are dependent on how well their harvest went; but you can be sure that their giſts to the church will come and be substanal at harvest me. They are most grateful for what God has given them and most definitely will bring their due to the church – just as it has always been for thousands of years. One day though I got a personal glimpse into the gratude of one of my farmers and it leſt me in awe. As some of you will come to know, I challenge my leaders and chair persons to lead with a devoonal followed by a prayer each and every me we come together. This is challenging for some people who are rather nervous about their skill in that area. Well one day when one of my farmers was to bring the devoonal, I waited expectantly to see what he would do and how he would handle it. He was a rather backward man of few words but hardworking, kind, and good. It was Thanksgiving me and he shared the only thing I’m sure he could think to share. He told us that early in the morning when he was in his tractor alone and riding through the fields he would sing hymns to God as a prayer. He would sing out, praising God for all his goodness, care, and benevolence and would give thanks to God for all his blessings and what he was able to give and share. Then this farmer bowed his head and prayed for us, a prayer full of thee’s and thou’s and it was one of the most beauful prayers I ever heard. We were all stunned into awe for his simple but immense faith, sharing his heart and very personal re- laonship with God with us – all because I asked him to. And what blessed assurance we received; I can sll hear him sing… Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvaon, purchase of God, born of the Spirit, washed in his blood. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

Some homespun theology… Praising My Savior All the Day Long

It’s harvest time and the farmers are out in their fields working night and day to get their crops in before the bad weather sets in. It is a sight to see all the tractors in the fields, the tractors and bins and trucks hauling the corn and the beans to the granaries. It is a sight to see and hear them coming through like a parade, a vic-tory march, a cavalcade of tractors rumbling through town. Everyone waves, everyone cheers them on, and everyone appreciates the hard work of the farmers especially during this season of harvesting – even if they miss church a time or two or fall asleep in the pews. We never even bother to wake them up except for the offering, because most of the time they are the ones taking up the offering! As I’ve said before, the farmers work hard. But what I appreciate most is their attitude of gratitude. They have this bigger sense of God in creation and their connection to God through creation. They are de-pendent on the weather, they are dependent on God for their wellbeing through good times and bad. And their annual gifts to the church are dependent on how well their harvest went; but you can be sure that their gifts to the church will come and be substantial at harvest time. They are most grateful for what God has given them and most definitely will bring their due to the church – just as it has always been for thousands of years. One day though I got a personal glimpse into the gratitude of one of my farmers and it left me in awe. As some of you will come to know, I challenge my leaders and chair persons to lead with a devotional followed by a prayer each and every time we come together. Worship in November Nov. 1 All Saints Sunday: Remembering our saints and recognizing that we are part of he great cloud of witnesses. Nov. 8 The Gratitude Path in the Season of Thanksgiving

Ed Bridgeman preaching. Nov. 15 “Just to Say ‘Thanks” Nov. 22 Thanksgiving Sunday Nov. 29 The First Sunday of Advent

Hanging of the Greens Sunday, November 29th Come on out and hang the greens in the church for Advent and Christmas starting at 4:00 p.m. on

the first Sunday of Advent, November 29th. We will work a little, have a potluck – or should I say carry-in dinner, work some more if we have to and end with some carols and prayer in the sanctuary. Since there seems to be no time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this should get us in the spirit!

Wednesday Night Bible Study in November

We have just finished our head scratcher Bible study and someone said that we should make it a sermon series. Now, that’s a good idea! So don’t be surprised if at some point we have a series on head scratcher scriptures or weird stories from the Bible. I love them all!

However, for the next several weeks we will be taking a break, Nov. 4th and 11th, and will start up

with an Advent Study towards the end of November so we can end our study the week before Christ-mas instead of the day before Christmas Eve. So stay tuned for the next start-up date, either Nov 18 or the 25th, whatever the class decides.

Children’s Christmas Play/Musical The children have begun rehearsing for their Christmas Play and Musical during their Sunday

School time on Sunday mornings. Sing a Song of Christmas is the title and everyone can participate by joining in the singing of some of our most beloved Christmas hymns. Stay tuned for the date and in the meantime, encourage the kids as they prepare.

Prayer Events: Go to www.facebook.com/Pray4CincyEast. This

group has organized a prayer group that will hold frequent prayer

events on the east side to pray for our community, our schools

and our churches as well as safe environments.

Red Bird Mission Craft Fair Wrap Up

Thank you so much to everyone from Cherry Grove for supporting the Red Bird Mission Craft Fair. Sales on Saturday and Sunday totaled over $3,600.00! To all of you who helped set up, donated items for the lunch, helped pack up, took posters to promote the sale, invited others to come shop, and of course to those who shopped - thank you for your support. A special thank you to Pastor Patty for providing dinner for our guests and their host family on Friday night and to Janet and Mike Brown for serving as the host family and for the delicious dinner on Sat-urday evening. If you didn't get to shop or if there were items you looked at but didn't purchase, we have learned that almost everything that was available for sale at the church can be purchased online at www.crafts.rbmission.org.

Nativity Display

Do you remember the Christmas song, Some Children See Him? The song reflects

on how the Bethlehem babe is seen by children around the globe - "lily white with

tresses soft and fair," or "bronzed and brown with dark and heavy hair," or

"almond eyed with skin of yellow hue," or "dark as they." The song concludes "the

children in each diff'rent place will see the baby Jesus' face like theirs." Let's cele-

brate the diversity of God's people and His great love for us with a display of nativi-

ties from around the world.

So pull out those various nativities that you have - the tabletop ones, the orna-

ments, wall hangings, child friendly nativities, etc. and bring the to the church to be

a part of our free Nativities Around the World display that we will host on Friday,

November 20th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, November 21st from

10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The event is free and open to the community.

In addition to the nativities on display, we will have Fair Trade nativities from

SERRV and Red Bird Mission available for purchase. On Saturday there will also be

children's activities, an adult make and take craft and we will serve festive refresh-

ments.

In order to make this event all that it can be we need your help:

1. We need folks from Cherry Grove to bring your nativities to be displayed.

2. We need volunteers to make festive holiday appetizers to be served to our guests.

3. We need volunteers to be on hand that day to serve the refreshments.

4. We need volunteers to handle the selling of the Fair Trade nativities.

5. We need volunteers to oversee the children’s activities.

6. We need volunteers to serve as greeters throughout the building to help visi-tors find their way to the nativities, the sale, the children’s activities and the food.

7. We need people to share the word – we’ll be printing postcards and would hope that each person/family could invite 5 others to join us for this event.

8. We'll need some folks to help set up for the event during the week of Novem-ber 16th - specific days and times will be in the bulletin.

You'll find sign up sheets in the narthex.

Cookie Chronicles

Cookies can bond a parent and a child, create memories for grandparents and grand-children, sooth the hurt over a disappointing game, break the ice when meeting new friends, celebrate birthdays and holidays and so much more. At Cherry Grove, cook-ies also change lives and offer the light of Christ.

Cherry Grove United Methodist Church will hold our 18th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 12th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM or until the cookies and candies are sold out, whichever comes first!

What is a Cookie Walk? A cookie walk is when folks from the church donate home-made “specialty” tea-sized cookies to be sold to people from our community and be-yond. On the day of the walk, buyers stroll among tables loaded with cookies and candies and fill their boxes with the cookies/candy of their choice. The cookies and candies are sold by the pound. The ingredients are all donated, none of the proceeds go towards purchasing ingredients.

Proceeds from the previous Cookie Walks have totaled over $22,000! Over 25% of those profits have gone into programs and ministries here at Cherry Grove UMC. We have also given support to a wide variety of United Methodist missions and minis-tries around the world such as The United Methodist Committee On Relief; The Ben-nett Center of London, Kentucky; Otterbein-Lebanon Auxiliary; Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky; Wesley Education Center for Children and Families; Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky; Lincoln Crawford Nursing Home; Nast Trinity UMC; and Wesley Hall. Other worthwhile projects supported through the cookie walk in-clude Veronica’s Vision – sewing machine for women in Kenya; The Mission Discovery in Nassau, Bahamas; the Ranfurly Home for Children in Nassau, Bahamas; Bethesda Hospital OB-GYN Women’s Clinic; TriHealth Nurse Midwives Teen Clinic; Haiti Child Survival Project of FOCAS; and the Hamilton County Women’s Jail Ministry.

We are inviting YOU to help make this project successful. We will gladly accept all donations of homemade cookies and candies and invite all cookie bakers and candy makers to help. We will gladly accept any and all donations! If you cannot bake, but would care to make a cash donation, we would be grateful for that help also. We will again be having baking parties at the church the week preceding the sale. All of the ingredients, equipment, and recipes will be provided – you just need to show up to help bake and share in the fun!

Sign up sheets for donations, workers, etc. will be in the Narthex starting the last Sunday of November. If you have any questions, please call the church office or Cindi Dietrich. Church: 474-1428, Cindi: 319-4473. Families, start your ovens!

Connecting Through Our Church

The Connections Team will have their next meeting on Tuesday, December 8th at 7:00 pm to plan for the concert on December 22nd and the Chili Cook off in January.

Looking ahead, Tyler Castrucci, the son of Denise and Steve Kazee, and the grandson of Wayne and Mary Jean Kazee, will be performing a trombone recital at Cherry Grove UMC on Tuesday, December 22 at 7:00 pm. Tyler is a graduate of CCM with a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland. He is looking forward to performing for the church congregation, family, friends and community. There is no fee but he will be glad for the experience gained in performing for an audience. We will have a reception for him afterwards in the Café. It will be a great Christmas treat!

On Saturday, January 9th, the Connections Team will be having a Chili Cook Off at Cherry Grove UMC. The proceeds will go towards our team’s next trip to Colombia. More details to follow in the next two newsletters.

Nursery: We love our children, and love having them around! And currently you can help build them up by helping on Sundays. We are in need of 2 helpers each Sunday to care for the children in the Nursery during the Worship Service. If you are able to help, please let Debbie Desgrange (513-882-2752) know what Sunday works for you. The other opportunity is helping the Sunday School teachers in the 2 classes downstairs each Sun-day. You do not have to teach, just be there to assist the teacher. Let me know what Sun-

Gift Bags for our Guests We can all welcome our guests to worship by doing a few simple things. First of all we have gift bags with all kinds of goodies in them for our guests to take home and you are welcome to make sure they have one. Second, if you see a visitor, please welcome them to our church, introduce yourself, and make sure they know where to go and sit for worship. You may just want to offer to sit with them and help them through our service as a guide. We are pretty used to what we do, but even Pastor Patty has to stop and think what she is doing since she is so new! Be a friend to someone who is new.
