opportunities to engage in a variety of amazing outdoor adventures!

I am also excited to announce that our White River Campground reservation system is GOING ONLINE! The new system is designed to make the reservation process more streamlined and efficient to better serve the needs of our camping community. Additional campground and reservation details can be found on page 22 in this issue.

Here’s another exciting update that I’m pleased to share with you - our Administrative Office has moved to a new location within the county seat (see cover). I invite everyone to stop by our new office at 400 Lafayette Road in Noblesville to say hello!

The Hamilton County Parks and Recreation five-year master plan is currently under development and will require public input. YOUR input is vital in the formation of the park board and the department’s vision and their ability to successfully serve the recreational and nature education needs of our community. We’ll soon be identifying a variety of channels through which you’ll be able to share your thoughts with us during the planning process.

I encourage everyone to enjoy all that Hamilton County Parks and our operating partners have to offer – outstanding facilities, education, programs, events and adventures; all designed

to improve the quality of life for Hamilton County residents and visitors, while providing experiences that make for lifelong memories!

Nature Myths - Fact or Fiction

It can be hard to know what is fact and what is fiction in the nature world, when many of us have heard many “do’s and don’ts” regarding animals through the year. We will sort through old wives’ tales and sound ecological advice. A naturalist will explain the science and comedy behind some of the most common nature myths, including whether owls can turn their heads all the way around, if you can spread poison ivy by touching it, and if parent birds will abandon their young if they are touched by a human. Located in Arcadia, more than fifty Great Blue Heron nests have been identified at the site. Date: Tuesday, February 8 Time: 6:30 pm

Indiana’s Most Beautiful Birds Subjectivity aside, we will spend the evening looking at photos and learning about some of Indiana’s most beautiful birds. Join us as we present a “Top 10 List” of Indiana’s most beautiful birds, and then add several more to the list because picking ten is an impossible task! Date: Tuesday, December 14Time: 6:30 pm

Over the past six years, Joel Calvin has volunteered hundreds of hours at Cool Creek Park. Joel learned about the damage invasive species can cause while volunteering with his work group. Later, his son Thurman, (a scout with Troop 152 from Westfield), planted over 400 native plants for his Eagle Scout project at Cool Creek Park! That inspired Joel to continue to focus his efforts on improving the environmental health of that park.

Joel says, “I enjoy seeing the change from overgrowth of invasive species to the return of native species and a more diverse ecosystem.” The difference Joel has made at Cool Creek Park is amazing! We are so thankful for Joel’s help, and we’re sure our native plants and animals are too!

For the eighth year in a row, volunteers from IU Health North and Saxony hospitals have contributed their time during their annual Day of Service. The project serves to better county parks with the end goal of improving the health of all community members – whether through constructing amenities or structures that encourage physical recreation or tackling projects meantto improve the emotional well-being of park visitors. At a time when professionals within the medical field have been taxed to their limits, it is especially appropriate that we extend to our “Healthcare Heroes” our deepest appreciation for all they courageously do for us – in and out of the hospital!

IU Health team members Louanne Fay and Jay Dodson lent their time and skills in beautifying park grounds.

THANK YOU IU Health North and Saxony
