300 BC – the Cymri or Britons

Occupied the former Iberian lands in Britain

Basic unit – the clan

Clans formed tribes

Primitive system – no private property or social classes

Different customs, social structures and religions

Varied from tribe to tribe

Everyday life

Lived in villages

Built forts with ditches

Tamed and bred animals

Caught fish, grew wheat and corn

Cared about cleanliness

Celtic warfare

Great warriors

Well-developed equipment

Metal daggers, spears, swords and axes

Tribes battled each other

No unified front against non-celtic enemies
