Who: Cody & Jessica Grant
Family: Cody & Jessica have been married for two years.
Background: Cody was born and raised in Scott County. He
Graduated SCHS in 2003 and from Eastern University in 2007 with a degree in Accounting.
Jessica was born in New Jersey but moved to Shelby County six month later. She graduated
from Shelby County High School and then attended Georgetown College. She graduated in
2009 with an Elementary Education degree. She attended Georgetown College on a softball
scholarship and played softball for Georgetown College all four years.
Work: Cody is an internal auditor for Whitaker Bank. His central office is in Lexington but he
has responsibility for numerous banks in the state. He has worked there for two years.
Jessica teaches 3rd grade at Anne Mason Elementary where she has also worked for 2 years.
Salvation Experience: Cody was saved at age 12 and Jessica was saved at age 19. Cody
attended Great Crossings Baptist Church prior to coming to CGBC and Jessica attended
Highland Baptist Church. Cody is involved with the Upward basketball program as a referee.
Hobbies: Cody loves the outdoors. He likes to hunt deer and turkey (with both gun and bow).
He also enjoys woodworking.
Jessica enjoys reading, her favorite author is Nicholas Sparks.
Both Cody and Jessica enjoy hunting together, spending time on the lake in their Bayliner ski
boat, and playing golf. Cody frequently shoots in the mid to high 70’s! Wow!
Other: Jessica traveled to Australia to play softball on a USA select team. She played at the
same venue where the Olympics were held. She got to hold a koala bear and pet a kangaroo.
Jessica didn’t like Cody when they first met. They were introduced through a mutual friend
from school. The only reason she went out with him was because her friends made her do it. As
it turns out, Cody is a master of the cheesy pick-up lines and after much persuasion finally won
her over. It only took him two years. Talk about persistence!
As CGBC celebrates its 135th anniversary, we
should take a moment to look ahead. Not at the
next 135 years but to the next several. Where are
we going in 5 years, 2 years, and even this year?
With God all things are possible. Let’s look
toward the next couple of years as a wonderful
opportunity to reach many more souls for Christ!

Achieving Success
When Ralph Waldo Emerson reflected on true success, he didn’t mention fame, fortune, or
social status. Ponder his thoughts – and your own definition of success:
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of
children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to
appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a
healthy child, a redeemed social condition or a job well done; to know even one other life has
breathed because you lived – this is to have succeeded.”
Thanks, Mom
Dad came home to find toys all over the living room, dirty dishes stacked in the sink, clothes piled in the laundry room, beds unmade, and kids still in their pajamas. The house was a wreck, like nothing he’d seen before.
Worried, Dad rushed upstairs to find Mom reading a book in bed.
“Are you okay?”, he asked.
“You know how you always ask what I do all day?”, Mom replied, “Well, today I decided not to do it.”
“The Gentle Gardener”
I’d like to sow the barren spots
with all the flowers of earth,
To leave a path where those who come
should find but gentle mirth;
And when at last I’m called upon
to join the heavenly throng
I’d like to feel along my way
I’d left no sign of wrong.
- Edgar A. Guest
Someday
“Someday” is a snake whose tongue has mastered the talk of deception.
“Someday”, it hisses, “I’ll take her on that cruise… we’ll have time to sit and
chat…”
But you know the truth before I even write it, don’t you? Someday never
comes! Wise up! Invest the time. Send the flowers. Write the letter. Make the
apology. Take the trip. Purchase the gift. Do it! The seized opportunity brings
joy – the neglected one brings only regret!

Memorial Day Reflection
We who are left, how shall we look again
Happily on the sun or feel the rain
Without remembering how they who went
Ungrudgingly and spent
Their lives for us loved, too, the sun and
rain? – Wilfred Wilson Gibson

Mission Trip
Lynch, KY Mission Trip
A group of 13 adults went to Lynch Kentucky from April 11th-14th to serve with Meridzo Ministries. While staying at Solomon's Porch, a variety of ministry projects were completed!
The team started the day by watching an inspirational video while eating breakfast to get geared up and focused for the day. From 8am-4pm the team completed work in the community.
One team laid a floating hardwood floor in the new school room of their equine ministry. Another team put a new keyless entry lock on the Lynch Community Christian Center, while a third team patched several leaky roofs and put new gutters on various ministry buildings. The final team helped a lady in the community by making an unusable bathroom functioning again.
The highlight of the trip was being able to hear the testimony of Meridzo Ministry founder, Lonnie Riley! His testimony of living out true faith was inspiring and humbling to the team, and sparked a desire to return to Lynch in the near future.
