IN THE CARE OF THE AUGUSTINIANS
Readings for next week: 28 September: Ezekiel 18:25-28 Philippians 2:1-11 Matthew 21:28-32
St Kieran’s, Manly Vale
GOSPEL SYMBOLS AND IMAGES Rich in forgiving life is christ
The ‘vineyard’ in the Hebrew Scriptures always referred to Israel, the people of God, while the ‘master’ was God himself. This parable would have been clearly understood to be about being gathered into God’s people and who was welcomed into the kingdom. The unbounded generosity of God is highlighted.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on
21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted
to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations
and peoples.
The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of
Peoples to Peace”. This anniversary offers a unique opportunity to
reaffirm the United Nations commitment to the purposes and principles
upon which the Organization was founded. The Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace
recognizes that the promotion of peace is vital for the full enjoyment of all human rights.
The parish was blessed in celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation for 150 children last Saturday September 13th at the Brimson
Centre, St Augustine’s College, Brookvale. We express our sincere thanks to Fr Vince Casey, the Diocesan Administrator, the parish
sacramental coordinating team, and the many volunteers who assisted on the day. Congratulations to all the children and their families.

Question of the Week
“Are you envious because I am generous?” Matthew 20: 15
At school: When I see someone get something, am I jealous or am I……..?
At work or study: Is it all about me or can I be really glad for others
gifts, success, belongings?
In my family life: What things that our neighbours have
do we secretly want? Mmmm?
Discipleship this week!
Send a card, email, text to someone

“God bless you and keep you in joy!”
From St. Augustine:
I want to live in the house of the Lord all the days of
my life. In it lies something wonderful to
see, the delight of the Lord Himself awaiting our
contemplation.
Commentary on Psalm 26
Parish Staffing Update We are fortunate in these times to have three resident active priests in our parish and a well-
resourced parish support team. A decision has now been reached regarding the position of
Pastoral Associate, vacated since the return of Sr Josie Mabini to the Philippines, some two
and a half years ago.
After a lengthy search for the right person to assume the role in our parish community, and
much discussion at Parish Council, Finance Committee level and among our parish staff, it has been agreed that we no
longer look for someone to fulfil the role for the time being.
With the welcome return of Adriana Bowyer to her former position as Family Ministry Coordinator, and the
acknowledgement that a good part of what Sr Josie used to achieve from week to week has been assumed by other
members of the parish team and volunteers, it was decided rather to concentrate our efforts on recruiting the right person
for the role of Youth Ministry Coordinator.
At our most recent Parish Council and Finance Committee meetings the idea of looking to a new outreach project to
witness to the importance of being an evangelising community in touch with wider local concerns and needs. The exact
form of this venture is yet to be determined but it is hoped it may compliment the good work already being dome by our
parish service organisations and the GIFT Project.
