SUMMARY

Cynthia attends Lings private practice for counseling regarding her feelings and marriage. Cynthia feels depressed, that her life has no meaning, she feels enslaved by the needs of her husband and kids. Ling asks her why she is feeling this way, Cynthia tells him she had a conversation with her husband about returning to school and pursuing a career of her choice. The husband threatened to divorce her if she decided to continue with her plans. Cynthia also consulted with her pastor who pointed out her obligations to her family. Ling has a strong believe to staying committed to the family, and that the men is the head of household. Ling persuades Cynthia t o postpone her own aspiration until her children are older. Cynthia agrees because she feels guilty about asserting her own needs, and she also fears being left alone. Ling works with Cynthia in finding other ways to add meaning to her life that would not impact her family as much.

ETHICAL DILEMMA

Ling does not help Cynthia pursue her

dreams instead he makes her postpone

them, because he also thinks that men are

the head of household. Now women are also

able to succeed and have a career.

HOW WOULD I APPROACH THE DILEMMA

I would have offered marriage counseling, so

that the husband could try and understand

her. Maybe he would see that it could benefit

both and their family. Maybe search for some

school options that would not have Cynthia

leave her husband and children unattended.
