FAREWELL BLESSING
In the Hebrew scriptures the farewell blessing is afairly common way to end the story of the lives ofthe great figures in Israels faith. The farewellblessings of Jacob, Moses, and David areparticularly notable. At the end of Lukes Gospel, wehave a farewell blessing by Jesus; it is the only timethat Jesus is described as giving a blessing to hisdisciples. Jesus farewell, of course, is different. UnlikeJacob, Moses, and David, who gave this blessing atthe time of their deaths, Jesus bestows his blessing ashe prepares to enter into new and glorious lifeseated at the right hand of God in heaven. Hisblessing, like that of his predecessors, is meant togive them strength and courage. But it also hasanother purpose: it prepares them to be sent out onmission. In this way, it is a precursor to the dismissalblessing we receive at the end of every Mass. Yes,the grace of Gods blessing strengthens us, but it isalso a dynamic force that sends us out on a missionto continue the life and the work of the Risen Christ. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

Casa Grounds For Solidarity
Selling Fair Trade Plus Coffee
Its a about a whole lot more thanjust coffee!
Stop poverty and help reduce a rootcause of immigration by purchasing
a bag of Caf Justo coffee after all the masses onMay 22nd and 23rd.This new Faith in Action Ministry will be selling fairtrade plus coffee once a month throughout thesummer. Fresh-roasted coffee is only $10 a poundfor Aribica style and $15 a pound for the gourmet
brand. There is a variety to meet every taste, including regular or dark roast, whole bean orground, regular or decaf. Your purchase of freshly-roasted coffee not only tastes great, but alsosupports a coffee farmer cooperative in Chiapas,Mexico and a coffee roasting facilityin Agua Prieta, Mexico. If you'd like tojoin this ministry and help sell coffeeat future masses, please contact PaulBirmingham [email protected]
A message from the Director. This Sunday at the 9:15 am mass, 11 peoplewill be recognized and blessed for thecommitment they have made to growing intheir love for God and their neighbor . These11 people are completing the JustFaith
program. JustFaith is a 30 week intensive study of ourChristian faith and our call to discipleship. During thesemany months, the members have prayed, read, viewedvideos, discussed social issues, traveled to meet andlearn from vulnerable and marginalized people. They, like the newly baptized and confirmed, will now beleaven for our community. Below is a story of how oneportion of the program affected the group.
Solidarity as defined by Websters Dictionary is Unity(that produces or is based on community of interests,
objectives and standards. Solidarity is what CasaGrounds for Solidarity, our new fair trade ministry, createsand you can be part of that! A few of us from theCasas Just Faith group traveled to Douglas/Agua Prietain April to learn more about our coffee supplier, CafJusto. We learned what solidarity means and how we allcan participate.
The concept of Caf Justo is building personalrelationships between all the people involved in acooperative growers, roasters and sellers (thats us).The bean plants are grown in the mountains of thesouthern most region of Chiapas, Mexico. Growing theorganic beans is very labor intensive. The beans are
harvested, sorted, de-pulped, washed and dried bycaring farmers. The beans are transported to AguaPrieta where Caf Justos has its roasting facility. CafJusto is the only fair trade coffee that roasts in Mexicoand keeps the profits within the cooperative.
Roasted beans are packaged with a label identifyingthe grower and date of roasting. We toured the roastingfacility and met people involved in the operation. Whenthe roaster is fired up it sounds like rocket fired off thepad in Cape Canaveral. The beans are loaded into theroaster and go round and round like a load of clothesuntil they reach the desired level of roasting. Wesampled the hot roasted beans which were surprisingly
good.We met with and heard the stories of people whobelong to the cooperative. Before the cooperative theystruggled to survive. The cooperative pays a fair pricefor the beans, all the revenues stay within thecooperative, health and retirement is provided.Members of the cooperative want to stay in theirhomeland and provide for their families. We cancomplete the circle of the cooperative by buying andselling Caf Justo. We become a part of this communityin solidarity with them. It is providing hope for a betterfuture. --Susan Doherty

VENI SANCTE, SPIRITUS
Saints Names and Confirmation
More Saints names. St. Luke was one of the apostles. He is the patron of physicians and surgeons. He contributed to the Hail Maryand was with Paul when he was imprisoned in Rome. - Trevor
St. Markwas one of the apostles. He is the patron of Notaries. He was killed as a result of his preaching and hiscreating a church in Alexandria Jack
Michelle means like God. I chose Michelle because I hope to be close to God. I want to be kind andpeaceful. Lauren
Blessed Rose, the founder of the order of the Venerini Sisters in Italy, is my choice for my saint. In my opinion
she stands for strength, compassion, a caretaker, and someone who loves everyone around them. Shehelped the women and girls in her neighborhood find their faith again; she established preschools for childrenof Viterbo and various other schools around the world. Alexandra
I like St. Francis because he loves animals and people Charles
Do You Remember Service Hours?Rather than assign a number of hours, our confirmation families were asked to choose a service activity thatthe family could do together.
Take a look at the activities our families did this year:
Patrick Coelho Little
Home Base Youth Services. I helped the organization called "breakfast for the homeless youth" situatedthere, as well as putting together bags to be handed out to the youth on the streets. I also organized adeodorant drive for my school. The deodorants were all donated to Home Base. I learned from theyouth that attitude makes a difference; they, who had gone through so much, were polite, thankfuland pleasant.
Trevor and Jack GannaloMothers Day cards forSenior Citizens in Sun Valley Lodge, Sun City Arizona. I wanted to create ahandmade personalized Mothers Day card for all of the ladies in this center. The purpose was to dosomething nice for these ladies, who are probably not being acknowledged on Mothers Day. Ilearned that it is nice to reach out and do something for strangers and not just the people that I know. The ladies will be the beneficiaries of this project.
Joseph Harries
I chose a lemonade stand because it was a fun way to raise money for the hurricane victims. I learnedthat helping others can be fun and rewarding.
