    The Franciscan Renewal Center is owned and staffed by the Order of Friars Minor,Province of Saint Barbara since 1951. It was incorporated in 1992 and is a 501(c)3

    not-for-profit entity. The Franciscan Renewal Center (The Casa) is not a parish but

    rather operates within cannon law as Our Lady of the Angels Conventual Church.This church is canonically a part of the friar convent and the church religious

    ordinary (Fr. Peter Kirwin OFM) and rector is responsible to the provincial minister

    Father John Hardin OFM.

    The FRC applies a three pronged approach to governance and management.

    The Provincial Trustees of the corporation are responsible for seeing that the

    ministries remain Franciscan and that the property is maintained for the church and the Order. The Board ofDirectors reports to the Provincial Trustees and is responsible for seeing that the mission/vision, goals andpolicies of the ministries follow the Franciscan tradition and also serve the needs of the Church. The board

    oversees the efficiency of the ministries and that the ministries conform to state and local laws and

    regulations. The board follows a governance model compared to that of daily management. The GeneralManager together with the Executive Director manages the day to day operations and implements thestrategic plan. They direct the staff of 35 and collaborate with hundreds of volunteers. The ED/GM report to

    the board of directors.

    The Franciscan Renewal Center Vision: We are a center for the experience of spiritual growth which

    transforms and moves us beyond ourselves in the service of others.

    As a Christ-centered community, we embrace the Catholic tradition in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, and wewelcome all to share in: Prayerful Celebration and Contemplation, Learning, Social Action, Healing, and

    Hospitality.

    Simply, we exist to inspire or change society toward peace and goodness, renewing lives.

    The purpose of the FRC is to provide community resources for people involved in fostering growth in human

    and spiritual awareness. It is our aim to provide hospitality within a beautiful, peaceful setting, for a variety of

    groups and purposes. The Casa serves a world community with facilities that still retain much of the quaint

    flavor of the original lodge. Indeed, many of the buildings are original, a point not lost on many who come to

    the Casa. Franciscan Values; The board and staff of 35 have adopted the following:

    Magnify the voice of the under-heard;

    Our values trump market growth, income or profit potential;

    We accept interruptions as potential opportunities for cooperation with the Spirit;

    Intuition is a superior form of knowing over rationality;We look to the coincidence of opposite for answers;

    Our priority is cooperation with the Spirit;

    Proactive collaboration and cooperation honors our interdependence yet accountabilityremains clear;

    Potential for spiritual growth and transformation equals success.Charles Brown, GM

    Franciscan Renewal Center - Faith in Action 4Fruitful Labor for the Lord

    The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;

    therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send

    out laborers into His harvest. Luke 10:2

    Franciscan Fathers Eddie and Gino are doing

    outstanding work ministering to the spiritual needs ofthe White Mountain and San Carlos Native

    Americans. They give their thanks for all the support

    they have received.

    Now they can use your help in ministering to a basic

    temporal need, the need for food, (especially fruits

    and vegetables which are lacking in the local diets)

    and help in delivering it to the people.

    Unemployment in the area is 70-90 % as a result of

    the current economic situation and the Rodeo-

    Chediski forest fire that shut down the local lumber

    industry.

    Several members of our Faith in Action Ministry have

    been taking citrus and other basic fruits andvegetables to San Carlos and White Mountain.

    The Sunflower Farmers Market, located on Miller

    Road at Camelback, has been extremely supportive

    of this effort.

    You can also helpVolunteers are needed to make occasional

    deliveries to the Missions. If you do this on a Sunday,

    its a special joy to attend mass while you are there.

    You could also make a monetary donation to help

    purchase citrus and other basic food items. Your

    prayers for the Apaches will be especially

    appreciated. If you would like to help inthis Fruitful Effort, or if you have any

    questions, please contact Bill Isenberger480-292-8999 [email protected].

    Backpack Collection July 17 & 18Backpack Collection July 17 & 18

    Last year, the Casa community

    collected 125 backpacks for

    the children in the foster caresystem. Catholic Charities is

    asking for our help again. Not

    everyone can take in a fosterchild. But each of us can support fostercare children by supporting the families thattake care of them.

    Just recently, weve been asked to help the

    orphanage in Haiti. They are needing 125backpacks.

    Our first commitment to the Foster CareChildren is for 125 backpacks. If we reach

    that goal, we can then continue to collectand try to reach the goal of 125 for the Haitiorphans.

    Can we do this, Casa community?Can we do this, Casa community?

    Please help our foster care families and theorphans of Haiti. Bring a smile to a childs

    face by providing backpacks and neededschool supplies!

    JanSport Corp. has donated 25 backpacks

    to kick off our Backpack campaign!THANK YOU , JanSport!!!

    We Need YOUThe Faith in Action Ministry at the Casa is alive and well AND busy! Good things are always happening here.

    As we look forward to the upcoming new Fall Season, we encourage all Casa community members to

    consider being a volunteer in the Faith in Action Ministry.

    There are many opportunities and options for volunteering. Right now we could use help in:

    The Medical Ministry

    The Apache Fair Trade Craft Project

    Collections and drives for the disadvantaged, homeless and the Franciscan Missions

    Looking ahead to the holidays when everyone is feeling a little stretched, the Blanket Drive needs people to

    help collect, fold and/or deliver the blankets. Many hands make light work. Would you consider giving of

    your time and talent? Maybe this is something you have thought about doing but didnt know how to go

    about getting involved.

    For answers to your questions or for more information on the many ways to volunteer in the Faith in Action

    Ministry, contact Patti Sills-Trausch, Director of the Faith in Action Ministry, 480-948-7460, ext. 130([email protected]) or Bonnie Wasniewski, Program Coordinator for Faith in Action Ministry, ext. 155

    ([email protected]).A faith communitys social ministry is the empowerment of the congregation as the people of God to fulfill the Church's

    mission of love, justice, freedom, and peace by communally responding in an organized way to societal and individual

    needs.We can respond to this call and act in four different ways:

    Advocacy/Speaking out for others

    Charity/Direct Service

    Solidarity/Development

    Empowerment/Organizing for Justice

    You can also pick up a copy of The Faith in Action Opportunities booklet in the lobby for a list and

    explanation of all the many ways you can be involved in this wonderful ministry.
