Dear Life-Changer,

It’s always a blessing to see people move from despair, depression and hopelessness to success and happiness. Thank you for your support and partnership in helping us reach out to those in our communities who are hurting. Even though the economy is still uncertain, we continue to move forward with our vision: “No One is Homeless”.

We are now preparing for the Fall and expect to provide over 250,000 meals by the end of the year. Hope often begins with a meal and there are many more

people in need of hope and healing. Help us with our annual “Pack the Pantry” campaign. This is a great project for your place of worship, business, school, club or organization. It’s so rewarding to see what young people are doing; school kids, college students, and young adults are becoming more involved in helping the homeless at our Centers in Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach.

I want to thank everyone who helped make our summer programs so successful. We had over 150 kids in our summer camp program, celebrated birthdays with our “Bombastic Birthday Party” for the homeless and needy, held our annual “Christmas-in-July” celebration that served thousands and provided over 600 pairs of new sneakers to boys and girls. We were also able to distribute school supplies to hundreds of needy children.

We simply could not do what we do without YOU! Together, we are serving more than 1,300 men, women, and children each day. Hundreds are enrolled in our residential programs. In fact, last year 750 men and women graduated our programs, found employment, and housing. YOU make this all possible! Special Blessings to you and your loved ones,

Hope Begins with a Meal!

Our volunteers and supporters are very special people. Rev. Harry Gordon, left, was a volunteer chaplain and served for 35 years. He came every Saturday evening to preach and to encourage the homeless and needy. Rev. Gordon is a decorated veteran and served in the Navy for 20 years. His career in the Navy included World War II where he survived many battles in the Pacific. He ended his mili-tary career in Opa-Locka and with his wife, Juanita, decided to stay in Miami.

Harry became a member of Graham Baptist Church in Hialeah and became an ordained minister. It was through the church that Rev. Gordon was introduced

to the Miami Rescue Mission. When his wife of over four decades passed away, and he was in his early 80’s, Harry decided to move to Gulfport, Mississippi and live at the Armed Forces Retirement Home. He had to move to another facility after Hurricane Katrina, but moved back in 2010. Harry is still sharp, but just can’t do the things he used to do. Thank you Harry for all the love you gave and are still giving. God Bless You!

“I Had the Worst Case of Who Cares”

If you were to meet Philip (right) today and speak with him, you would have no idea that he has experienced years of homelessness. He is sharp, friendly, and energetic.

Philip was born in New York into a blended family and after his parents divorced, his mom and siblings moved to Florida. Philip did well in school, but started using drugs and hanging with the wrong crowd. He went on to college, but had to leave due to lack of finances. Philip lost his sister which had a tremendous im-pact on him emotionally. He was able to hold down a job, but his addiction started taking him down a dark road. Within 2 years of losing his sister, he lost his father. Philip says, “I developed the worst case of who cares and pretty much gave up on life. For years I struggled with my addiction and ended up on the streets more times than I can remember.”

Philip is a graduate of our program and has been clean and sober for 2 years. He is work-ing and back in college. He has a new future and wants to work with kids to help them not take the path in life he took. “I’m so thankful for the volunteers that I have met, people who have served me food and spent time with me. I’m also grateful to those that have supported this ministry.” — Philip.
