God’s Design for Wives & Mothers

1. Designed to LoveI Cor 13: 4-7 __is patient, __ is kind. __ does not envy, __does not boast, __is not proud. 5__ does not dishonor others, __is not self-seeking, __is not easily angered, __keeps no record of wrongs. 6__ does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7__ always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.


2. Designed to be a helperHelper : ‘ayzer’ one who is sent to support and aid anotherIt is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. Genesis 2:18


3. Designed to be submissive Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Eph 5:22-24

God’s Design : 3.What Submission is NOT

a. Does not mean that you are a second-class Christian

God and Christ have roles of authority and submission, yet they are one in essence as God. So it is with husband and wife. Their roles differ, but in essential quality and value, they are equal. - John MacArthur

b. Does not mean that you must be your husband’s personal slaveFor you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

God’s Design: 3.What Submission does mean

a. An attitude of love, respect, and gentleness in the way you speak and act toward your husband Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

b. Subduing pride and self

Submitting to one another in the fear of God Ephesians 5:21


c. Allow your husband to lead

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Ephesians. 5:22


4. Designed to be a companion

Yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant. Malachi 2:14


5. Designed to be virtuous: Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her.

Prov. 31:10,11Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30


6. Be managers of the household …the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:3- 5


7. Primary responsibility: Raise ChildrenHome and children are to be the priority.

Ways to live out God's design as a wife/ mother

1. The core of your lifeIt is not serving your husband or your children- it is to be in submission to the Lord. Matthew 22:37


2. Your worth comes from the Lord For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Proverbs 3:26

Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Proverbs 19:14


3. Complement your husbandTwo are better than one...woe to him who is alone. Ecc. 4:9,10
