Clubs of the Month Congratulations to the following clubs: 1 st place OBCA 7-9 4 th place Central 5 2 nd place Columbia 5 5 th place Central 4 3 rd place OBCA 4-6 Fall Foods Festival Fifty Caldwell parish 4-H’ers took part in this year’s 4-H Fall Foods Festival held on November 14, 2011 at Union Central Elementary. 4-H’ers had the opportunity to prepare and present dishes containing Louisiana commodities beef, chicken, egg, sweet potato, rice and pecan. 4-H’ers also competed in the Consumer Foods Judging Contest where they judged and ranked foods based on criteria such as nutritional and economic value. Judges from across the parish and region tasted and scored the 124 dishes on appearance, taste and use of commodity. During the judging, contestants participated in an educational nutrition program presented by LSU AgCenter nutrition educator Tammy Tarver and a technology awareness program presented by Dave Woerner, Assistant Director of Information Technology for the LSU AgCenter and Regional Coordinator for the Broadband Education Grant. First, second and third place winners received cash awards. All participants received ribbons. Best of Show – Cotton

Award winner Meredith Scroggs will receive a $50 savings bond. Sponsors for this 4-H event were Billy Ellis, Noel

Guerrero, Drew Keahey, Lelon Kenney and Charlie Mac Rowland.

4-H Junior Leaders Make Christmas Boxes for Local Youth

As a local community service project, the 4-H Junior Leadership Club adopted

youth at Columbia Elementary and filled a large shoe box with small gifts and

toys. 4-H Junior Leaders were responsible for selecting the age appropriate

gifts for these youth. 4-H’ers also collected canned goods to be presented to

a family in the Columbia Elementary community. The 4-H Junior Leadership

Club is open to 4-H club members in grades 7-12. The mission is to develop

leadership skills in youth and participate in community service and service

learning projects.

4-H T-shirts

There are still a few 4-H t-shirts available for purchase at $13 each. Sizes available include adult medium, adult large,

adult extra-large and adult 2x. Contact your 4-H leader or the 4-H office to purchase a shirt.

4-H Night with the Hornets

4-H Night with the Hornets will be Friday, February 10, 2012 at the New Orleans Arena where the New Orleans Hornets

will play the Portland Trail Blazers. Tickets are $25 each. If you are interested in ordering tickets, please contact 4-H
