Fall Foods Festival
Fifty Caldwell parish 4-H’ers took part in this year’s 4-H Fall Foods Festival held on November 14, 2011 at Union Central
Elementary. 4-H’ers had the opportunity to prepare and present dishes containing Louisiana commodities beef, chicken,
egg, sweet potato, rice and pecan. 4-H’ers also competed in the Consumer Foods Judging Contest where they judged
and ranked foods based on criteria such as nutritional and economic value. Judges from across the parish and region
tasted and scored the 124 dishes on appearance, taste and use of commodity. During the judging, contestants
participated in an educational nutrition program presented by LSU AgCenter nutrition educator Tammy Tarver and a
technology awareness program presented by Dave Woerner, Assistant Director of Information Technology for the LSU
AgCenter and Regional Coordinator for the Broadband Education Grant.

leadership skills in youth and participate in community service and service
learning projects.
