THE COMPANY & BYOD BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is a term widely used to describe employees buying and using their own devices for company work. BYOD has been happening in workplaces for some time now, yet many IT departments are still not completely ready for it. What if the employee loses their phone? What happens to all the documents created, edited and stored on their device? Is your IT department backing up employee endpoint devices? 19% of companies reported they adopted BYOD to keep employees happy. Another 17% cited productivity improvement as the top reason to implement BYOD.¹ 74% of enterprises believe tablets will replace laptops. ¹ 52% placed a mobile usage policy in place that their employees must agree to and sign. ¹ While 15% cited BYOD’s ability to lower their organization’s overall mobile spending as the reason to adopt BYOD. ¹ MSP Mentor also stated that companies are more apt to adopt mobile phones ( 50% ) than tablets ( 30% ) as part of their BYOD policies. Otherwise, your employees may be putting corporate data at risk. The Forrsights Workforce Employee Survey, Q4 2011 shows that workers are dissatisfied and are spending an average of $1253 annually of their own money on computers to do the job. ² Companies face enormous risks due to the fact that corporate information now is edited and maintained on end user devices outside the data center. A data breach or loss can lead to disastrous circumstances from lost competitive advantage to reputational loss and the costs of litigation, compliance, and remediation.
