This capacity was part of a strategic plan established more than 20 years ago and shows the foresight of the Maryland Port Administration (MPA) In addition to accom- modating larger ships, a main focus for the MPA is operating efficiency and being able to maintain and increase produc- tivity where possible by add- ing RFID tags, weigh in mo- tion scales, adding more crane equipment and creating more terminal storage by in- stalling racking systems for example. One of the best ways to man- age multiple aspects of trans- portation is with the assis- tance of a global logistics company such as Expeditors. With their assistance multiple companies were alerted of the pending West Coast Strike and were able to develop an alternative logistics plan be- fore the strike without nega- tive impact. Expeditors also presented a general outline of Incoterms 2010, the best sce- narios depending on if you are the importer or exporter, as well as the CTPAT program and the advantages of having your supply chain certified if the costs are justified. We definitely had a great time learning about logistics and the Port of Baltimore for Sup- ply Management Month. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE BY APRIL 24th! Calling all logistics and supply management professionals and students! ISM-Maryland, Inc. awards scholarships to folks to help defray their education costs. Applications are available on our website.

RECAP OF THIS YEAR’S MEETINGS January’s meeting was an exciting Supply Manage-ment Jeopardy game, hosted by our own Bruce Hasenai. Team #1 was Katie Jackson, Sarah Francis, and Daria Calwell with Team #2 opponents Rachea David, Evelyn Henley-Shields and Lenny Novak. It was an exciting match with interesting questions based on the CPSM body of knowledge. Team #1 won in a landslide. Thanks to all the players for par-ticipating! February was our Heavy Seas plant tour. Once again it was a popular event, providing an interesting plant tour as well as an opportunity to meet and greet folks.

March was another timely plant tour of the Balti-more Port, in light of the west coast port strike. The strike highlighted the importance of our ports in the supply chain and how it affects not only our business, but US commerce.
