Preparation: Seal and sand the brush carrier. Basecoat with Soft Heather.Trace the pattern onto tracing paper; then transfer onto the painting surface, top and sides with Gray Graphite Paper and a stylus.

Painting Instructions: Front Brush HandlesBase coat the lavender brush handle with Purple Cow. Shade under the ferrule, along the top (left side if they were standing up) side, and behind things that lay behind it with fl oated Grape Juice, using your ½” angular shad-er. Base coat the turquoise brush with Whispering Turquoise, shade along the same side as the purple brush with Desert Tur-quoise. Base coat the coral brush with Coral Blush and shade fi rst with Georgia Clay, then with Heritage Brick in the same areas as the other brushes. Highlight the right sides with Snow White, dry brushed fi rst, then lines of thinned Snow White. Note the highlighting on the turquoise brush is more to the center.

Brush FerrulesBase coat the ferrules with Grey Sky, using your # 2 liner. Shade with fl oat Neutral Grey where the bristles attach, and next to the horizontal part. Shade the ends of the horizontal parts, and then line the ferrules with Neutral Grey.

Brush BristlesBase coat the bristles with Golden Straw-(# 2 Liner). Float shade at the base of the bristles, fi rst with Burnt Sienna, using your ½” Angular Shader; apply thinned Burnt Sienna + Espresso “hair” lines coming from the base of the bristles to the tips, then outline the bristles using your 10/0 liner using the same mix.

RibbonBase coat the ribbon with Lamp Black. Apply the highlights with fl oated Snow White, accord-ing to the picture. This will take more than one layer, but keep it soft, making sure to blend your paint in your brush very well. Use the appropriate size shader for the area you are fl oating. Line the ribbon with thinned Lamp Black where the white fl oats are. This will sharpen the ribbon.

way we wish they would appear to us when they come out of the bottle. Ready to stick on and fi nish!!

Finishing: Mix Soft Heather + Grape Juice in a separate bottle. You will be using this quite a bit, so don’t run out. How much to use of the Grape Juice will depend how dark you want it. Don’t get it too dark or the lining won’t show up. Apply this to the back, bottom and inside handle hole. On the ends and front where the brushes and leaves are, measure ¼” and lightly mark all the way around with a pencil. On the front, paint the mixture and follow the pencil line, mak-ing the edge wavy. When dry, use thinned Grape Juice and your 10/0 liner to outline the waves. On the ends, the wavy lines are lined with thinned Grape Juice. Erase any remaining pencil lines. On the front add polka dots with Snow White using a brush handle on the mixture color area. Varnish with several coats of DuraClear Var-nish – Satin – be sure to allow each coat to dry well before applying the next. Fill with brushes and get busy painting!

I hope you have enjoyed this project. I sure had fun designing it. Enjoy your painting journey! Julie
