FacilitiesThe School is based in the Eastern Gateway building,which creates a stunning entrance to the UniversityCampus. The £32m building has state of the artfacilities over four floors to house the school’sfaculty, students and leading edge research

Brunel University was established in 1966 and islocated on a single campus in Uxbridge, on thewestern outskirts of London, close to HeathrowAirport with excellent links to the centre of Londonand the rest of the UK. Centre for Research in to Emotion Work andWork and Organisation Research Centre (WORC)Members of WORC undertake applied research into allaspects of performance in the workplace, individualwellbeing and performance, and Human ResourcesManagement in its broadest sense. Using a wide rangeof quantitative and qualitative research methodologies,our work investigates current and pressing issues inperformance at three levels of analysis - the individual,the workteam, and the wider organisation. Information Systems Evaluation and Integration (ISEing)ISEing focuses on solutions to management issues, inboth private and public sectors, which use businessinformation systems, technology and communication toimprove efficiency, effectiveness and performance. Accounting and Auditing Research Centre (AARC)AARC provides a focus for investigating current issues incorporate financial reporting, assurance and corporategovernance in large and small entities. Specialist areasinclude impact assessments of government policy on theaccounting and auditing needs of SMEs and the effect ofderegulation on users of their financial statements andthe accountancy profession.

Operations and Supply Chain Systems Group (OASIS)This research centre was created with a mission toundertake rigorous and relevant research into all aspectsof Operations Management and Supply ChainManagement and related areas. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

A real MBA CommitmentThe MBA Programme from Brunel Business Schoolis an intensive, research-led MBA designed tomaximise students’ investment in a global executivecareer. The intensive full time programme is a one-year course starting annually in late September.

OrientationIt may be some time since you last undertook aperiod of formal academic study, so your study skillsmay be a little rusty. To help you prepare for yourMBA, you will begin with a three day orientation thatintroduces the key concepts of the MBA andprovides valuable advice on how to study effectively.

September - May: The full time taught part of theprogramme starts in September and ends in May.Study takes place on campus for approximately 30- 40hours per week: students will attend the Schoolbetween Monday to Thursday with occasional Fridayand Saturday, to participate in lectures, seminars,group work, guest speaker visits, Career DevelopmentClasses and Leadership Masterclass Series.

May - September: The Business Project is mainlyundertaken from May onwards, with somepreparatory sessions before.

September - onwards: Become a part of a networkof over 75,000 Brunel Alumni.

Over the course of your MBA, you will study six core modules, which cover the essentials of business activity.

Corporate and business financeYou will gain a thorough understanding of the world offinance, the concepts of risk and the cost of capital, aswell as the process of financial management in the longand short term. You will also learn the principles ofmanagement accounting, and systematic techniques for analysing and evaluating the financial health of an organisation, including the construction andinterpretation of financial statements.

Leading people and managing organisations Good organisations recognise that human capital is akey resource. This module helps you understand the many factors that influence people’s behaviour and theireffective performance. Through the development ofcritical thinking and independent judgement, you willgain a better theoretical and practical appreciation ofhow to motivate, lead, work together, communicate withcolleagues, and manage conflicts of interest.

Strategic marketing managementThis module will give you a thorough knowledge of theprincipal marketing concepts and how marketing hasevolved as a business discipline with the rapidexpansion of new technology. You will learn how toconduct a marketing audit, construct a marketing plan,and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing activities.

Operations managementIn this module you will explore the approaches,techniques and tools of managing operations. You willgain a greater awareness of how strategic issues, bothwithin the boundaries of organisations and beyond,affect how operations are planned and controlled. You will also develop a better appreciation of therelationship between performance imperatives and the design of operations or services.

International businessThis module considers the many challenges, bothinstrumental and ethical, of managing complexinternational organisations across geographical andcultural borders. It will provide an understanding of themechanisms for entering new markets and emergingeconomies and the consequent need to cope withglobal diversity, risk and uncertainty.

Corporate and competitive strategyThis module will introduce the concepts andmethodological tools and techniques for analysing an organisation’s strategic position. You will gain anappreciation of the complex issues and challengesthat face those responsible for the strategicmanagement of organisations in changing and uncertain conditions.

As well as building up your management knowledge throughthe six fundamental core modules, the Brunel MBA alsogives you the opportunity to specialise by way of electivemodules. Three pathway choices are available: generalbusiness, healthcare or aviation management. If you wish tospecialise in aviation or healthcare management, you willneed to choose the two relevant electives as well as a sectorspecific topic for your Business Project.

Elective ModulesInformation systems in organisationsYou will examine the changing role of information systems(IS) and their impact on individuals, business and society.You will study a range of topics relating to eBusiness,customer relationships, knowledge management, and thelatest theories, practical developments and future trends inthe field. Drawing on your own business experience, you willidentify and resolve a specific concern using a strategic IS solution.

Managing for the futureIt is not the aim of this module that students will be able topredict the future! Instead, the aim is to introduce students toseveral methods developed specifically for considering,elaborating and interrogating ‘futures’ more thoroughly, andin a structured or semi-structured way, in order to improvethe quality of actions that they will be capable of taking intheir own rights as managers and practitioners. Thesemethods include those developed in industry as well aswithin academia.

Global diversity managementThis module provides an insight into the key concepts,historical evolution and contemporary practices of globaldiversity management. During this study you will develop anappreciation for managing diversity in multinational andglobal organisations in public, private and the voluntarysector, in partnership with line management and leadership.You will also develop a key understanding of diversity in thecontext of organisational change.

Healthcare policy settingYou will gain sophisticated knowledge of the political setting ofhealth policy, you will also be able to analyse its influence andcritically evaluate the role and effectiveness of healthcareprofessionals and managers in the policy-making process.

Managing change in healthcareThis module will help you develop original and innovativeinitiatives in healthcare management and help you topromote them within your organisation’s strategic plans andculture. You will also review, analyse and evaluate currentdevelopments in healthcare policy as they impact onimplementing change and use research evidence to evaluatethe success of change theories, strategies and initiatives indelivering best practice.

Airport management and planningThis module will enable you to compare and evaluatedifferent models for the successful management of an airport,with an enhanced appreciation of the role that economic,environmental, safety and security factors play, and howairport design can influence the process.

Airline management, economics and ethicsThrough an introduction to the underlying principles of airlinemanagement, this will give you a deeper understanding ofthe economics, customer relationship dynamics andmarketing strategies involved in running a successful airlinebusiness. It also considers the professional ethics demandedof the industry, both within and by society at large.

Brunel MBA students have the opportunity toundertake their Business Project in a real worldcontext, through a collaboration with multinationalcompanies, SMES or public sector institutions.To complete your MBA, you will be required toundertake an in-depth study of a business ormanagement issue of particular interest to you. It could be something that you have met in yourcareer to date, a challenge that your organisationcurrently faces, or an exploration of a subjectcompletely outside of your own experience. You will be expected to conduct extensive research,analyse your findings and reach your own conclusions.But before you embark on your project, we will giveyou comprehensive guidance and will coach you allthe way through, from the first draft to your completed12,000 project.
