Welcome to The Stork

Editor’s Letter Spring is here!!

Hello and welcome to the Spring Edition of The Stork.

Spring is all about new beginnings and this is certainly a new beginning for me. It’s my first issue as editor. I do hope in this, and over the coming issues, we will be able to bring fresh perspectives on the challenges and joys that those first 1,000 days can bring. Our daughter Flora is seven months old and every month, every week, every day feels new and exciting and scary and impossible and wonderful and…well YOU know!

This quarter, to coincide with our fabulous BABIES Family Fun Day on April 26th, we are focussing on breastfeeding and have some great articles for you to enjoy. Our own Jemma Martell, a new mum herself, has kindly shared with us the challenges she faced in establishing breastfeeding when her son Freddie was born last summer. It’s a real tale of perseverance and great support…with a good ending! And, close to my heart, we look at how caesarean can impact those first days of breastfeeding - an article I wish I had read before I had an emergency C-section last year. Oh well, we learned on the job!

Finally, we are really chuffed to be sponsored this month by ScoutBee. Nina Burrows and Jennie Mugridge first met at their NCT group and later founded this Winchester-based property search service.  With their children now at school, they help busy families, who don’t have the time or the local knowledge, to find their ideal home in Hampshire, and start new phases of their lives in the perfect house for them.

So, whatever is new for you this Spring, embrace and enjoy!

Branch Vacancies Laura Skilton - Chair

We had a fantastic response recently to our plea for volunteers so thank you so much to our newbies to the NCT Winchester and District team: Jo Robb, Helene Pelleray and Rachel McRae. It's great to have you on the team.

We still have loads of opportunities to get involved if you are interested. I have detailed below all the roles we are looking to fill in order of priority for the Winchester branch. None of the roles should take more than a couple of hours a week, responsibilities are split to ensure that busy mums can get involved and keep the NCT branches running successfully and supporting other parents.

Let me tell you a little bit more about each role;

Publicity Coordinator - as a branch we are desperate to improve the way that we are promoting our events and our branch in general. We need someone who can really get the message out about all the great things the NCT does in the Winchester area. So we are very keen to fill this role ASAP and if you have any experience in social media, press, or marketing, or just fancy giving this a go, we want to hear from you now!

Branch Advertising Coordinator - the advertising role is hugely important to us being able to produce The Stork newsletter. We have been lucky enough to have had Naomi running this for a few years now so it is ready to hand over as a ‘going concern’, or – if you feel like it – could really be built on to take it to the next level!

Parent Support Coordinator – this role is all about supporting the parents in the local area, something that is vital to our branch strategy. Maybe you had support from the NCT when you were a new parent and want to pass on the help, or maybe you are a new parent yourself and want to reach out and support people in the same boat. If so then this is the role for you!

Bumps and Babies Hosts - we desperately need to set up a new rota for hosts for our Bumps and Babies mornings, this simple but vital role involves setting up the toys/mats and being happy and confident in talking to new people - that’s it!. Lots of people come along as a bump, or as a new mum, so if you'd like to help reach out to people and make them feel welcome this is definitely a really easy way to get involved..

As a branch our aim is to ensure that we are supporting the local community and giving our members a brilliant service. We are all volunteers and we have a lot of fun along the way, please get in touch if you are interested in helping out. Even if it's just for a few months, any help is really appreciated.

If you are interested in finding out about any of the roles please contact me, Laura Skilton at [email protected]

Breastfeeding Special

My Breastfeeding Journey

Jemma Martell

When I was pregnant I’ll admit I didn’t give how I was going to feed my baby much thought. I knew I wanted to breastfeed and thought it would be easy for me, after all it’s the most natural thing in the world. No one had really told me about the issues or problems I could face or how hard it could be.

My son Freddie was born after a quick, very dramatic second stage labour, which left me with quite a bad tear and significant blood loss. It also emerged quite quickly that he had Strep-B and needed to be taken to SCBU. While both of us were recovering in hospital it was really hard to get started with breastfeeding; the hospital midwives tried to help me get him to latch on, but he just screamed and screamed. I managed to hand express some minimal quantities to be taken to him in SCBU and was then set up with a breast pump which helped me express more for him. The SCBU nurses fed this to him with a cup and, as I was determined not to give up with breastfeeding, I persevered trying to get him to latch on.

After a few days, still recovering from the birth in hospital and with no success breastfeeding, I was feeling increasingly useless. Watching someone else feed my baby with a cup while I sat and watched was one of my lowest points, and I felt quite wretched that I wasn’t doing what I wanted to do for my baby.

So late one night, as I was trying in vain to comfort my hungry baby, I decided to take matters into my own hands and introduce a bottle so I could feed him myself. He took to it straight away. I kept expressing to give him the best of my breastmilk, but he had a voracious appetite and I frequently needed to supplement with formula top-ups. When we were finally discharged from hospital after 6 days Freddie was well established taking bottle feeds and just about back to his birthweight.

However, I was still very keen to move onto breastfeeding and was reassured by the midwife that it wasn’t too late. I arranged to go back to the hospital for a breastfeeding support session and, after a difficult start, we tried a nipple shield and it seemed to work! He had a good feed as we lay on the bed and I felt really positive on my way home. But, once I was on my own, I just couldn’t get Freddie to feed in the position that had worked in hospital. I would spent hours googling and trying different positions but couldn’t seem to find one that worked. On top of all this poor Freddie was suffering from thrush due to the antibiotics he had been on, this passed onto me and it took weeks to clear up!

Breastfeeding Special

I was at my wits end when I was finally advised to go and see Jennie and Jane at BABIES. My first visit was pretty emotional! Reliving our first week and our breastfeeding journey to that point was hard but the kindness and amount of time Jennie spent with me, positioning Freddie and giving me encouragement and reassurance, was amazing. I started attending BABIES weekly and it got to the point that I felt like part of the furniture! Freddie would always feed brilliantly there but as soon as I got home it didn’t feel right so I kept on with a mix; trying to breastfeed, bottle feeding him formula and expressing when I could.

I was desperately craving sleep (as all new mums are) so when it came to the night feeds I’d persevere as much as I could but if he was getting distressed I would make a bottle of formula up. I didn’t know at the time that by replacing breastfeeds with formula and not expressing at night would affect my milk supply. There were so many times in that first month that I would say to my husband Nick ‘This is really hard, I think I’ll call it a day and just bottle feed.’ But he was incredibly supportive and knew I wanted to carry on; he could see how challenging I was finding it but he knew how important it was to me. I used to wish the week away and couldn’t wait until Wednesday morning when we could attend BABIES and Freddie could have a good feed.

Eventually, with trial and error, I got to the point where I was feeding Freddie using a nipple shield perfectly but I still didn’t have the confidence to feed in public as I hadn’t found a way to use it discreetly! So, when Freddie was 5 weeks old, whilst at BABIES and with the confidence I had from Jennie and Jane’s support, I tried to get him to latch on without the shield and he latched on straight away. From that day we’ve been plain sailing and, after phasing out the formula, we were happily exclusively breastfeeding. It was a tough journey but, despite the sore nipples, I had finally got to the point I wanted to be.

When Freddie was 11 weeks old I was asked to go to an antenatal group to demonstrate breastfeeding and talk about my journey. At week 1, even week 6, I never thought this was something I’d be able to do but it’s such an incredible thing to be able to share my story, and pass on some of the great support I had.

If it wasn’t for the breastfeeding counsellors at BABIES I wouldn’t have got to where I am now. Freddie is 6 months, a very healthy 75th percentile and we’re still going strong with breastfeeding!

B.A.B.I.E.S Family Fun Day After last year’s roaring success, this year’s B.A.B.I.E.S Family Fun Day on Sunday 26th April from 11.00am – 2.30pm is set to be even more awesome.

The event, at Lanterns Children’s Centre on Bereweeke Road, is open to everyone and kicks off at 11.00am with the arrival of a mobile farm of small animals, which everyone from 9 months to 90 years old will love! The day will also include fun toddler activities, surprise entertainment, great raffle prizes, music and food which will keep mums, dads, pre-schoolers, tots and even grandparents entertained. Event organiser, Jemma Martell says, “I’m thrilled to be involved with this year’s Family Fun day. The B.A.B.I.E.S service, which is entirely supported by fundraising activities and donations, gives vital support to mums in the Winchester area. It has been found to be highly effective at supporting mothers to breastfeed.” Jemma herself used BABIES, you can read her story in this issue, and found the service so invaluable she was keen to get involved with the event to ensure B.A.B.I.E.S’ continuing success.

We have been extremely lucky in gaining sponsorship from Freeborn Mitsubishi, Charters Estate Agents and Shentons Solicitors. These sponsors allow us to make the event what it is, and offer such activities as Movin’ Monkees, Baby Massage demonstrations and, of course, the ever popular face painting!.

“BABIES costs £5000 a year to keep going” says Jemma, and “as it is a free service open to everyone, we need events like the fun day to maintain the service”

So come along, enjoy the fun and help make the day a great success. You might even see a donkey!

The team are still looking for help to ensure the Fun Day . Can you help? Jemma is looking for people to • Donate raffle and tombola prizes • Provide a prize or service for the silent auction • Display a Charters (estate agent) board outside your home advertising the event • Run (or man a shift) on a fun kids activity stall • Bake a cake • Help spread the word & bring friends along!

If you’d like to get involved or want to find out more please e-mail Jemma at: [email protected]

For more information about the fun day go to http://www.nct.org.uk/branches/winchester which will be constantly updated with the latest information.

Preparing for Breastfeeding After Caesarean Any woman may have her baby by caesarean. In England, for example, 10.7% of all births are unplanned caesareans, and 14.8% of births are caesareans planned during pregnancy.

A study of first-time parents attending NCT antenatal classes showed that most wanted to find out about or prepare for a possible caesarean birth, though the vast majority wanted to avoid it. When roughly a third of these women do go on to have a caesarean it is important to understand how this may impact breastfeeding and what new mums might be able to do to make it easier.

It’s more difficult to establish breastfeeding following a caesarean Many women find that establishing breastfeeding following a caesarean birth can be more difficult, compared to a vaginal birth, particularly in the first few days after birth. This is particularly true when the caesarean is planned or ‘elective’ rather than initiated after labour has started. However for most mums following a caesarean, once they have established breastfeeding their experience should be no different.

‘For some women who have a caesarean, breastfeeding is especially important, as they have been unable to have their preferred birth.’

NICE reflects this evidence in its clinical guidance:

‘Women who have had a CS should be offered additional support to help them to start breastfeeding as soon as possible after the birth of their baby. This is because women who have had a CS are less likely to start breastfeeding in the first few hours after the birth, but, when breastfeeding is established, they are as likely to continue as women who have a vaginal birth.’ How and why does a caesarean birth affect breastfeeding initiation? There is strong evidence that elective CS, carried out before labour begins, can cause some problems for breastfeeding, compared with a caesarean section after the onset of labour. Researchers suggest that the hormones, especially oxytocin, and sensations of labour play an important role in preparing a mother and her baby for breastfeeding. Other ways in which caesarean birth, elective or emergency, can make it more difficult to establish breastfeeding include delayed skin-to-skin contact and time to first breastfeed, the effect of drugs and medications, increased postnatal pain and discomfort, sleepy and congested babies, stress and anxiety or a combination of many factors.

So because of the possibility of these additional challenges, post-caesarean mums who want to breastfeed might find that additional support will be needed. NICE recommends skin-to-skin contact to improve breastfeeding outcomes generally, yet research shows that following a CS, just 78% of UK mothers had skin-to-skin contact with their baby within 24 hours compared with 92%

for vaginal births. Early skin-to-skin contact after a CS could really help kick off breastfeeding, could decrease time to the first breastfeed, and reduce the need to supplement with formula in hospital. Skin-to-skin can also increase bonding and maternal satisfaction, maintain the temperature of newborns, and reduce newborn stress. A study of breastfeeding mothers in hospital following CS looked at their experiences of a bedside cot compared to a standard hospital cot. Even though the bedside cot had no observable impact on the frequency of breastfeeding, the mothers said it made breastfeeding and caring for their babies easier.

What does breastfeeding mean to women who have had a caesarean? We know that women’s mode of birth and of feeding can have huge social and emotional meaning for them. For some, breastfeeding after a caesarean (or other kinds of unplanned or traumatic) birth is especially important for their wellbeing, or sense of being a good- enough mother, as they have been unable to have their preferred, or ideal, birth.

Beck and Watson carried out a qualitative study with women who felt they had experienced a traumatic birth, including some who had had a CS. In relation to breastfeeding they found two pathways, one where women were more motivated to breastfeed and experienced positive ‘healing’ through the process, and the other which involved compounding of difficulties with a traumatic birth being followed by painful feeding experiences, further violation, further physical pain, insufficient milk supply, intruding flashbacks, or disturbing detachment.

‘If breastfeeding is initiated, the likelihood that a woman would still be breastfeeding at six months is unaffected by mode of delivery.’

So, we know that CS can make it more difficult to first establish breastfeeding, especially an elective CS before labour, as the mind and body need time to catch up and adjust. Therefore all the things that usually help are especially important, including early and extensive skin-to-skin contact, frequent feeding, skilled support from resources such as BABIES, midwives and health visitors and lots of practical and emotional help from friends and family.

Preparation for breastfeeding after a caesarean There are additional challenges to establishing breastfeeding after a caesarean, which may include some pain and discomfort.

However, once breastfeeding is established, most women will be able to breastfeed for as long as they like.

Early skin-to-skin contact, finding comfortable feeding positions and making sure there is extra support on hand in the first few weeks are important.

Other ways to prepare, and things to think about, are in particular:

• Positioning. Given the common experience of post-operative pain and discomfort, look at different ways of feeding comfortably, such as feeding lying down in order to keep pressure off the scar.

• Ask for the baby to be wrapped in mum’s clothes so he would recognise her smell; if appropriate, avoid post-operative sedatives in order to prevent a sleepy baby; look for extra support with early breastfeeding .

• Find out about the practices in your local maternity unit and think about asking for skin-to-skin contact as soon as the baby is born to keep baby warm, reduce stress, and enable bonding and early feeds.

• Have a look at the NICE guidelines on caesarean section • Talk to your NCT counsellor about DVDs that might help including breastfeeding after

a caesarean.

Abridged from an original article by NCT breastfeeding counsellor Jessica Figueras examining the evidence on how a caesarean affects a mother’s breastfeeding experience.

How B.A.B.I.E.S Works in Winchester Sessions run every Wednesday morning (apart from in the week between Christmas and New Year) from 9.30am to 12pm. The service is free and available to women who are pregnant and wanting to find out more about and to meet mums who are breastfeeding; and those who have babies of any age coming from any area. Mums can come just once or many times.

We sometimes get asked ‘Is it ok for dad to come as well?’. The room is set up for women of all different stages to get help and support with breastfeeding challenges or questions; and is designed to take into account the sensitivities and feelings of all women who might attend. On the occasions when a mum wishes to have her partner’s presence and contribution, if we can – dependent on the availability of another room and the staff – we would take the whole family to another room.

Each year we send out a questionnaire to all the women who have attended B.A.B.I.E.S in the previous 12 months; read our latest report here: www.nct.org.uk/sites/default/files/related_documents/BABIES2010FINAL.pdf

Winchester Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme

You may have started to notice this sign going up on the windows and doors of various eating establishments throughout Winchester.

This issue we are celebrating the launch of The Winchester Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme. The scheme is a Winchester City Council project, funded by a grant from Hampshire County Council's Public Health Fund. The grant was awarded to Action for Children (Lanterns) and the actual work is being done by Hampshire BESS.

Businesses who sign up to the scheme will comply with a breastfeeding-friendly policy set by Winchester City Council that will ensure mums feel confident that they can breastfeed their baby in a comfortable and safe environment with no fear of discrimination.

Those that have signed up will display a Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme window sticker visible from the street and a certificate inside the premises.

In January the first 10 local businesses signed up to the new project, making it easier for mums to breastfeed their babies when they are out and about. The first 10 businesses to join up were Beales, Bridge Patisserie, Caffe Nero, Chococo, River Cottage Canteen, Cafe on 2 @Debenhams, Eighteen 71, Rick Stein, Subway, and the YMCA Café. Even more businesses will be on board at the time of going to press.

Councilor Jan Warwick, the City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Health & Well-Being, said: “It is essential that mums experience a positive and friendly atmosphere for breastfeeding. I am delighted that these Winchester businesses are leading the way in making breastfeeding welcome in our city and I look forward to many more joining them during the campaign.”

How can YOU get involved?

Mums are now being asked to feedback their experiences;

Please do this by going online to https://feed-finder.co.uk and downloading the feed finder app to report your findings. The more mums who get involved the better the information will be for both Winchester residents and visitors. Mums can also email [email protected] for more information.

Free Ante Natal Clinic One of NCT Winchester’s best kept secrets is the Free Ante Natal clinic run by the fabulous Vicky Rodd and team. This drop-in group was set up three years ago for pregnant ladies who don’t have the access the other services available through the NCT.

Providing vital support for the, often unique, needs of these women, the clinic has already helped so many of them to prepare for the birth of their babies by sharing information on labour choices, feeding, nutrition and those vital first 1,000 days! To date the clinic, has been funded through the generosity of the Winchester Round Table, but as the need for the service grows we are always looking for new donations or volunteers.

If you think this service would be helpful to you, ask your health visitor or midwife to put you in touch, or just drop in to Lanterns on any Wednesday in term time between 1.30 and 3.30pm.

If you would like to find out more about what we do, or to help fund the service, please contact Vicky Rodd [email protected]

Going Back To Work

Caroline Hepworth

I can still remember those first few days of returning to work after my first baby. The date had been on the calendar for months – it was always a date that seemed to be ages away and now it was here, I was distraught.

The first 6 months of Florence’s life were not always the most enjoyable for me – I loved her more than life itself and she wasn’t at all a difficult baby, but adjusting to life as a mum had taken longer than I had anticipated. The sleepless nights, the teething – the ‘am I doing it right’ intensity of it all was stressful. I had often thought it would be easier to go back to the office for a day –to be in familiar territory where I was more in control and actually had time and head space to think. However that 6-9 month phase had been amazing – the summer strolls, the tea shop visits, giggling in the swimming pool, cuddle time in bed in the morning – I just didn’t want it to end.

Day one at work was emotional – the night before was agonising. I lay awake thinking ‘What am I doing? How can I do this to her’. That drive to nursery, I tried to hold it all together, ignoring the large lump my throat. There was the inevitable leg grab, the arms reaching up, the ‘ma ma ma’ distress call and then the tears from those big blue eyes. I heard the commonly dished out ‘she’ll be alright in five minutes’ line and wasn’t sure whether to believe it but left, just about managing to hold it together until I got to the car and literally cried all the way to work. I was also starting a new job that day and had to check the mirror to make sure my colleagues didn’t think Alice Cooper was making an appearance.

What a different feeling it was returning to work after my second baby. I was offered the chance to work four days a week – I couldn’t believe my luck. The drive to nursery this time around was a much happier one. I knew that the girls had great care and Clara would love her time at nursery and get so much more stimulation than staying at home with me all week. Clara still did the whole crying routine but to be honest, I was practically skipping out of the door. I knew she really would stop after ten minutes. Instead of feeling wracked with guilt, I felt a sense of freedom that I hadn’t felt in a long time.

Yes, I missed them during the day but I knew I only had to get through two days at work, then I would have a day to spend with them, play restaurants, sing Disney princess songs, have play dates and just have fun with them.

So, the good stuff about being back at work – I can drink hot drinks when they are still hot, I can go to the gym at lunch, I can talk to my colleagues about non child-related subjects, I can actually wear heels (once I have ditched the flats for the nursery sprint in the morning). I can take the nice bags that have been stored at the back of my wardrobe to work that don’t contain a leaking cup or crushed Cheddars. My wardrobe staple of black everything had to be replaced. Turning up to work with a hint of baby sick, a snail trail of snot or fromage frais smeared on my shoulder after breakfast was not a good look. Having nearly a year out of work was also good from a professional point of view. I had a fresh perspective – the small trivial things that used to niggle away at me, just don’t bother me anymore. I can leave the office knowing that the world will not end and a new lack of tolerance for petty politics has made me more assertive and determined.

The not so good stuff –it’s a long shift – especially if it’s has been a disturbed night, which is more often than not. It’s as if they know you have a big meeting or presentation to do and make it their mission to exhaust you before it’s even 9 o’clock. Especially with more than one – its like a tag team – you just settle one then the other one starts and just as I have completed my Mission Impossible walk back into the nursery and slowly placed Clara back into her cot, I take my dead arm and back ache back to bed, hit the pillow, then the alarm goes off. There is no snoozing – everything has to run to schedule to get everyone out of the door on time.

Most of my morning routine is carried out with a clingy baby on my hip, so applying make-up and getting changed can be a challenge – I have given up on blow drying my hair – 30% dry is acceptable before I leave the house.

Staying at home and not returning to work wasn’t an option for me. I’ve always wanted a career and though I loved being on maternity leave and appreciated the time off, I just felt like there was a part of my brain that wasn’t being exercised and I missed that sense of finishing a day’s work and feeling I had achieved something. I know that raising a child is the biggest achievement I could ever accomplish, but I just felt like I was treading water on maternity leave – having a shower and making sure the house wasn’t a complete mess was the achievement of the day. Everyone is different and it’s hard getting the right work/life balance, but I feel like I have achieved some sort of balance that works for us as a family. It’s by no means easy, but I know I am lucky to have the option to work four days – there are thousands of families who work longer hours than me or have very little choice in their work and child care arrangements. The days are long but I have two happy, healthy children who I have huge amounts of fun with and I feel that going to work gives me the direction and drive I need. It feels like I have the old ‘me’ back – even if it is a more tired version!

Winchester Sling Library

The Winchester Sling Library is now well established and enjoying it’s second storming year after launching in 2013. Run by Hayley Halford and funded by Winchester & District NCT, the library started out as just a simple sling meet with Hayley and a friend sharing their experience and lending their sling collection to Winchester Mums. It has quickly expanded and now meets once a month at Lanterns with more than 20 different slings available for try out and hire. From stretchy wraps and close caboos, mei tais, ring slings, wraps and soft structured carriers, there are options for children from birth to 4 years.

Hayley is now a fully qualified Babywearing Consultant and has the support of a volunteer Peer to Peer supporter and three other sling enthusiasts. The sessions have become so much busier over the past two years and the team regularly find they are rushed off their feet for the hour and a half session.

Hayley wouldn’t have it any other way though and says she’s seen a real difference on the streets of the city, “Babywearing is such a wonderful, and practical, way to transport your baby. We’ve noticed a real increase in sling use over the past couple of years and really hope we have played a part in helping people make this choice.”

She’s keen to stress that the Sling Library isn’t just there to help people chose a sling, “We are very happy to help people who have already got their own sling and just want advice as the best way to wear or fit it. It’s really important to have your baby sitting in the right position, both for her and your well-being! With some simple adjustments we can make sure you are getting the most out of your sling and staying comfortable”.

To hire a sling is only £5 per month plus a refundable cash or cheque deposit of the retail value of the sling, so make sure you bring your cheque book. Sessions are the first Thursday of every month from 10 to 11.30am at Lanterns Children Centre, Bereweeke Road

Entry is just £1 per family. There’s no need to book, just turn up and enjoy!

From a Mother to Another: reducing clothing waste in the UK

JoJo Maman Bébé have teamed up with Barnardo’s to redistribute clothing to vulnerable families in the UK ~

~ Over £3.5k of children’s clothing goes to landfill per child growing up ~

~ Each year 1 million tonnes of clothing is sent to landfill in the UK ~

JoJo Maman Bébé, the UK’s leading independent mother and baby brand has long championed ethical and sustainable business practices. Their new initiative aims to tackle the growing concerns over waste, whilst helping mothers in need in the UK. Laura Tenison MBE, founder and MD of JoJo states: “As the youngest of five children with a frugal Scottish mother whose mantra was “waste not want not”, I was shocked to find out how much clothing ends up in landfill. I was also aware that giving to charities who ship our old clothes overseas to sell in the third world damages the local economy. We decided to work with our JoJo customers to tackle these issues.” From a Mother to Another, is a simple system where gift packs of used, good quality clothing can be dropped into any of JoJo’s boutiques across the UK before 30th April 2015. As a thank you for their generous gift, supporters will receive a £5 voucher to spend with JoJo Maman Bébé.

All items you donate will be wrapped and sorted by gender, age and season. They will be distributed by Barnardo’s via their network of shelters and homes across the UK. and this way, From a Mother to Another will help to reduce landfill whilst providing good quality clothing to those in need in the UK. “I am so proud to be taking part in this new sustainable fashion

initiative,” adds Laura Tenison, “I’ve always passed on our outgrown clothes to others and hope that the hand-me-down tradition is re-ignited across the country. It may be a strange idea for a retailer, but we put people and the planet above profit and yet the business is thriving – proving you can do well whilst doing good!”
