About this Presentation
I learnt about Brain Friendly Learning with Kimberley Hare (Kaizen Training, UK) in 2012 and have found it very
effective in my work, especially designing and delivering workshops in the way the brain naturally learns .
When I shared this material with participants from a Leadership Training Institute in February this year, it was much
appreciated.
During the course of the last couple of months, I also created my own illustrations for this material and am happy to
share it with all of you.
Namaste and best regards
Satyen Krishen Khashu

You want to ensure that you are your learning participants
are in the most resourceful state possible because the
state you are in when you learn something, tends to get
neurologically associated with the content.

Key states of
learning and
the BRAIN
Physiology
Focus
Language State is
everything
1. Identify the
state
2.Recall state 3. Construct
state
4. Set an
anchor
5. Break into
neutral state
6.Fire anchor

WHY .. Curiosity
WHAT IS HAPENNING ?
Arousal , sometimes
confusion, anticipation
WHAT FOR ?
To create attention
HOW ?Use
Teasers, Questions, Futu
re pacing, Leaving things
un-
concluded, anticipatory
rituals.
![Page 15: The Brains Big States of Learning](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052400/559715871a28abeb548b461b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Uh-oh ...healthy concern
WHAT IS HAPENNING ?
Stress hormone cortisol is released.
Healthy in short bursts
( long exposure is harmful)
WHAT FOR ?
Use to trigger healthy concern.
Create an interest.
HOW ?Increase personal
accountability, degree of
challenge, deadlines, q
uizzes
![Page 16: The Brains Big States of Learning](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052400/559715871a28abeb548b461b/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
WOW..High energy
WHAT IS HAPENNING ?
Norpinephrine (noradrenalin)
created. Amygdala engaged
WHAT FOR ?
To energise or create emotions
HOW ?Introduce urgency, high
bpm
music, x-
laterals, movement, tea
m competitions
![Page 17: The Brains Big States of Learning](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052400/559715871a28abeb548b461b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
YES ! Enthusiastic confidence
WHAT IS HAPENNING ?
Dopamine (reward chemical
released. Frontal lobes and
nucleus accumbens engaged
WHAT FOR ?
Use to celebrate, reward
behaviour, to have fun, fix learning in
long term memory. increases
neuronal growth and laying down of
connections
HOW ?Design activities that
induce this state
especially at the end of
the training, peer
teaching, repetition and
positive feedback.
![Page 18: The Brains Big States of Learning](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052400/559715871a28abeb548b461b/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Chill – Reflection and well being
HOW ?Use familiarity and
safety calming
voice, grateful
reflection, guided
visualisation, slow
breathing
WHAT FOR ?
Use to focus inwards and promote
reflection, reduce threat and stress
WHAT IS
HAPENNING ?
Cortisol level drops.
Amygdala activity
suppressed
