~ MINISTERS MESSAGE ~ Staying Christ-CenteredIn my favorite New Testament book by the Apostle Paul, we read in Philippians, Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus” (2:4, 5). Then in the next chapter, I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection” (3:10). The significant idea is that Paul strove to have Christ as his focus and to always be in Christ. To follow after his example and to think like Christ. As Bonhoeffer wrote to have Christ as the center. We are living in stressful times with the COVID-19 pandemic still very much raging all around our country and then the powder keg of racial tension in America was set off again by a string of widely publicized incidents culminating in the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minnesota. As protests across America and even across the world took place in big cities as well as small towns I spoke to my counterpart on the Dismantling Racism Committee of the Presbytery, The Rev. Michael Moore, Pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church who is an African-American and currently the Vice-Moderator for the Presbytery of Baltimore. I asked him how he was doing. He sighed and said, I have to stay Christ- centered.” His statement said so much! High emotions swirl in us and around us. Those who follow Christ as Lord and Savior strive always and in everything to have the mind of Christ and to be guided and directed by Christ. Among all of the things this means, it means not being swept up in any movement or allegiance which seeks to make a claim above the claims of Christ. As followers of Christ, Christ alone is our primary allegiance. To acquaint yourself with the mind of Christ, and the way of Christ it would be helpful to read three chapters in the Gospel of Matthew which comprise Jesusso-called Sermon on the Mount(Chapters 5- 7). These teachings begin to take you into the mind and heart of Christ and his counter-intuitive message of the kingdom of heaven. How to live up to Christ-centeredness?It comes from living from the power of his resurrection. This power is the true power and the good power at work in the world. It is my prayer for all of us and my own life-goal to stay Christ-centered!Peace be with you, my friends! ~ MINISTER’S MESSAGE ~

“Staying Christ-Centered”

In my favorite New Testament book by the Apostle Paul, we read in Philippians, “Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus…” (2:4, 5). Then in the next chapter, “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection…” (3:10). The significant idea is that Paul strove to have Christ as his focus and to always be “in Christ.” To follow after his example and to think like Christ. As Bonhoeffer wrote to have “Christ as the center.” We are living in stressful times with the COVID-19 pandemic still very much raging all around our country and then the powder keg of racial tension in America was set off again by a string of widely publicized incidents culminating in the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minnesota. He sighed and said, “I have to stay Christ-centered.” His statement said so much! To acquaint yourself with the mind of Christ, and the way of Christ it would be helpful to read three chapters in the Gospel of Matthew which comprise Jesus’ so-called “Sermon on the Mount” (Chapters 5-7). These teachings begin to take you into the mind and heart of Christ and his counter-intuitive message of the kingdom of heaven. How to live up to “Christ-centeredness?” It comes from living from the “power of his resurrection.” This power is the true power and the good power at work in the world. It is my prayer for all of us and my own life-goal to “stay Christ-centered!” Peace be with you, my friends!

Thoughts from Threads of Hope Clothing Ministry by Danielle Wells Hot news from Threads of Hope! Thank you, prayer supporters, for prayers of direction and action! Our clothing ministry is now working with “Helping the Least of Them”, a non-profit organization, by donating clothing and shoes to their sidewalk events. Every week this group provides dinners and food boxes to needy families in the Eastside Baptist Church district in East Baltimore. And now free clothing, shoes and baby items are made available through Threads of Hope. The residents in this community need the basics to make their lives a little better. Tutti, (Henrietta Brown) the founder of this charity, is a wonderful Christian woman who has a large heart and endless energy to help others in despair. The kind words and prayers of her volunteers give hope to those caught in a lifestyle of neediness and hardship. Threads of Hope supporters and prayer partners encourage the efforts of compassionate workers like Tutti and prove that God’s love overcomes adversity when we partner together.

Tutti says that there is a need for SUMMER MEN’S CLOTHING (T shirts, polo shirts, short sleeved shirts, shorts) in her community. She serves homeless people as well as residents with families. Check your closets and contact Danielle (text 717-578-3659) or Kim (text or phone 443-619-0248) to arrange an appointment for drop off. Thank you. We are delighted to share God’s love through the clothing Threads of Hope has collected to help others in need. STAR WORD IN A PANDEMIC

When I picked the word “TIME” in our last “STAR WORDS” drawing, I knew it was especially significant to me, because I have long believed our TIME belongs to God and is therefore to be in His hands. But since leaving the workforce, in 1996, when God called me to a writing ministry, it has become clear that the more TIME I give to Him, the more He inspires me to write. Now, 24 years later, in the midst of a pandemic and multiple crises for us all, TIME is a key factor in dealing with change, and the uncertain future. We all crave peace, which is a key goal of My heart. But to find it, for me, means I must let go of my need to control my time, and give it to the only One Who knows the outcome. For in the end, His will shall be done on earth, as it is in heaven. To have peace in the midst of Life-storms, requires us to trust and obey Him. I’m trying… Amazingly, I have found that my peace depends on whether or not I’m in God’s will. When I become anxious (too much, lately), or feel heavy, confused, uncertain, it is invariably because I’m over-thinking, not trusting, wasting time, and worrying. Getting into the Word, praying, doing worthwhile things, will put me on track. How about you? How do you find peace? I’ve also learned in these years, that seeking God first, not people, is the way to peace. He gives WISDOM, confirmed in His Word, while people give opinions, often based on feelings & their views. Too many views can create confusion. That doesn’t give me peace. WISDOM simply does not come from humans, nor do we learn about it in just any book. The Word of God, which is Jesus Christ, is to be our source of WISDOM. When Matthew 6:33 says to “seek first the Kingdom of God…” it is saying to go to God first, and to know Him. Then, His Kingdom can grow and thrive in you where the Spirit dwells. Of course, discussion is fine, but God’s view is simply supreme. I’ve still wasted too much time during this pandemic, sometimes thinking I deserve to; I’m old! I’ve heard so many speak this truth. For Seniors especially, we have more time alone with quiet, more time to rest and sleep, more time to finish the unfinished, no mtgs & obligations…Of course, this has not been true for parents trying to work and be a teacher. Nor has it been so for many whose lives have been turned into chaos. I’m speaking for those in retirement on this matter.

I do believe God has wanted us, in this life-storm, so filled with tests and challenges beyond our imagination, to make more TIME with Him. Psalm 32 speaks of the Spirit teaching and instructing us. I believe He has been calling people to Him for friendship, to talk to us intimately, about our future. I sense He is saying that there will not be another “gift of time” such as this, and we have work to do in it, for the Kingdom of God that is in YOU, & for others. So, we are to use it wisely and be built up in the Spirit so we may more easily WALK IN THE SPIRIT. I feel like God is telling us that the time to come is not going to be the same for anyone. I believe He is saying, “fill your soul with My Word and listen to Me for I am speaking to hearts needing to focus on Me first, not self. Trust Me as never before. The earth is passing away as you have known it, but a new heaven and a new earth is coming.” (Prov. 3:5-6; 2 Peter 3:13). Carolyn Patrinicola

To Pastor Ray and the members of Highland Church, Bill and I want to thank everyone for the many cards and prayers since his cancer surgery in September. The church family has been a tremendous source of strength and support for us. Bill has resumed follow-up visits to GBMC and his surgeon is pleased with his progress. At the last visit the surgeon removed the tracheostomy Bill has had since September. A great step forward! In Christ, Evelyn and Bill Moessinger

THE ONLY FLAG THAT DOESN'T FLY

This is just amazing - it’s huge and the proportions are correct. It is great to see the American Spirit is still alive.

Between the fields where the flag is planted, there are 9+ miles of flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown by seed companies. It's a beautiful place, close to Vandenberg AFB. Check out the dimensions of the flag. The Floral Flag is 740 ft long and 390 ft wide. It maintains the proper Flag dimensions, as described in Executive Order #10834. This Flag covers 6.65 acres, and it is the first Floral Flag to be planted with 5 pointed Stars, comprised of White Larkspur. Each Star is 24 ft in diameter and each Stripe is 30 ft wide. This Flag is estimated to contain more than 400,000 Larkspur plants with 4-5 flower stems each, for a total of more than 2 million flowers.
