The children have been blessed with lovely weather and a full itinerary (not to mention happy tummies with the endless supply of food at the AIS) and I feel compelled to mention how well behaved, interested and engaged they have been while on tour. The children have been a joy to be with and are a credit to their school and families. Parent Education Evening – Technology and Cyber Issues in Schools It was lovely to see many of you at the Parent Education Evening on Tuesday. Jason Newman was our guest speaker and he spoke about the issues facing children and parents surrounding the use of technology. The main ideas explored in this session are noted below.

Cyber bullying issues are often related to other bullying issues

Cyber bullying is most prolific with children from the ages of 10-14

Cyberbullying doesn't have "real world" boundaries

The school is interested if an unpleasant interaction (anywhere, anytime) is between two students of

the school

Parents can support their children by:

o Working with the school if an issue arises

o Establishing a philosophy surrounding the use of technology within your home and family

(and revise if necessary)

o Targeting behaviours, not the technology. Technology changes so rapidly

o Maintaining communication lines with your child and the school

o Staying up to date on kids technology (within reason)

o Visiting the Office of the Children's eSafety Commissioner website for useful information

This was an informative evening and it highlighted the need for rigorous policy in this area. The school is currently reviewing its policy and it was useful to have feedback from parents to assist us in framing the next iteration. The revised policy will be circulated towards the end of this term. Charity Day – Friday 13 May A reminder that the SRC have organised a “Crazy Glasses Day” for Friday 13 May to raise funds for the school’s charity this year, The Fred Hollows Foundation. Children are asked to wear some crazy glasses to school and bring a gold coin donation. Parents are welcome to participate also – the crazier the better! A final word of congratulations to our Chapel Choir who are performing at the Recital Centre on Saturday and Sunday evening with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. The children have worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks and we are so proud of their commitment and achievement. We wish you all the very best of luck for your performances – you will all be superstars. Enjoy the weekend, Sandra Holland

School Fees Katherine Andrews – Finance Manager Please be advised that school fees are due for payment by Tuesday, 10 May 2016. Thank you.

Sporting Achievements Congratulations go to Tom Love who made the Victorian Under 12 Hockey Team. He will now represent his state at the School Sport Australia National Championships which will be held in Cairns from July 31 to August 5. Great Work, Tom!

Dear Parents and Friends, This morning Kinder 4 invited special people to a chapel service where we reflected on Mother Church and Mother Mary. Here is one of our prayers. Loving God, we thank you for the gift of Motherhood. May those blessed with children be granted the gifts of courage, perseverance and good health. Give mothers strength to exercise compassion as they live each day under your care. AMEN. I think especially of those for whom Sunday will be a difficult day. May God surround you with his love. Blessings, Linda

ANZAC Day - 2/14th Ambassadors On ANZAC Day, the 2/14th Ambassadors and School Captains were fortunate to participate in the ANZAC Day March and ceremony at the 2/14th tree. Here are some personal reflections from the day: I was very honoured to march on ANZAC Day alongside Vin, Ron and their families. I loved talking to Vin and Ron and it was lovely to share ANZAC biscuits with them.

Lily Wertheimer I was so lucky to march on ANZAC Day. I was amazed to see that Ron and Vin were still marching. It really made me think about how lucky we are to be in a country that lets us do what we want. We are grateful to our veterans.

Patrick Bolton It was amazing getting the opportunity to meet the veterans, Vin and Ron. It was heart-warming reading the prayer at the ceremony and to see how many people contributed to this day.

Bruno Kistler On ANZAC Day we had the honour to march alongside Vin, Ron and their families. It was very special to read a prayer at the tree service and witness the strong bond between the school and the 2/14th community.

Poppy Glenning It was an incredible experience to be a part of. It was great to meet Ron and Vin after hearing so much about them. I look forward to seeing them again this year.

Madeline Barrett It was a very sentimental day for us all. I really enjoyed carrying the banner and it was amazing to see so many people supporting the veterans. A great honour for us!

A Musical Note Children from Prep to Grade 5 enjoyed an exciting excursion to see the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra this week. Whilst experiencing the magnificent sound of a full orchestra, the children sang, moved, counted, clapped and learnt about a range of musical genres, from Dr Who to Beethoven, Hoedowns to Romeo and Juliet. They learnt about the instruments of the orchestra, with a few unexpected additions such as a theramin and a falling cymbal/rubbish bin. It was a delight to watch the enthusiasm and wonder on the children’s faces. We were very lucky to have one of the MSO musicians (CCGS parent, John Arcaro) come and visit some of our music classes in preparation for the excursion. Speaking about the Percussion Section and demonstrating a range of instruments, John had the students of Prep G and M transfixed. We discovered many budding conductors who enjoyed donning a tailcoat and directing John with some expert baton waving. Please come and visit the Music Classroom to see some of the children’s reflections. After months and months of hard work, our Chapel Choir is finally performing this weekend with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Joining with Melbourne Grammar School, the National Boys Choir and the Choir of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, our students will be part of the Mozart Requiem: 100 Voices concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre this Saturday and Sunday. They have achieved a huge amount this year and are sounding amazing. Auditions for the Lion King will occur at lunchtimes next week. A schedule has been sent to classrooms, please ask your child to check their day- it is their responsibility to be there on time.

Art News John Watson – Visual Art

Earlier this year I ran an art competition amongst the student's from Year 2 - Year 6. The competition was to design a new exterior sign for the art room. Students were required to submit their designs on the condition that, if they won the competition, they would create the finished signs in their own time at lunchtime. I expected perhaps 30 entries. To my great surprise, I ended up with over 200 entries! So I decided instead of one winner, there would be five winners, one from each year level.

The winners were as follows - Remy Stynes - Year 6, Tabitha Burge - Year 5, Sophie Davies - Year 4, Francesca Falcon - Year 3 and Rex Walsh - Year 2.

Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who entered the competition.

The students have begun working on their finished pieces, bringing friends in to act as assistants (We all know Michelangelo didn't do all the work!). The signs are starting to come alive with vibrant colour, pattern, line and shape.

I'm looking forward to displaying these pieces outside the art room later this term - they are looking amazing already.

Sport

Hello Everyone!

This week we have been enjoying the outdoors and playing lots of fun group games.

We also got out and about playing soccer which is the most popular game at the moment and the kids have delighted in

beating the educators on many occasions.. This is a game that all the children have been getting involved in especially

the younger children who are having fun chasing the balls.

Also this week we had lots of fun making very large towers out of blocks and turning into group projects together with all

our friends.

Better Buddy Leaders

Over the next few weeks we will be selecting our “Buddy Leaders” for this term.

Names of the children chosen will appear in the upcoming newsletter, so watch this space…

Parents don’t forget that you need to inform me to whether your Child will be attending aftercare, this is very important

for the safe running of the program. You can do this anytime by logging onto our website (www.campaustralia.com.au)

or you can catch us on the mobile (0423 795 219).

Have a great week!
