Welcome to this tutorial on the common features of the Biosafety Clearing-House. In this section you will learn about the BCH features that can be found on all of the

BCH web pages.

The internet address of the BCH is bch.cbd.int

The BCH is available in the 6 official languages of the United Nations:

Arabic, Chinese, English, Spanish, French and Russian.

The link ‘Sign Up for an Account’ allows you to become a registered BCH user and create and manage information in the BCH through

the Management Centre.

By clicking on this link you will access a page where you can register your email address and be issued a password to log on to the

Management Centre.

The link ‘Sign In’ allows registered BCH users to sign in to the Management Centre of the BCH and create and manage their

information in the BCH.

The Horizontal Navigation Bar is where the 7 sections comprising the content of the BCH website can be accessed.

They include: Home; Information about The BCH and The Protocol; access to search all of the BCH databases in Finding Information; a

Registering Information section with access limited to BCH registered users; Resources available; and Help on the use of the

BCH.

Detailed information about the specific content of these sections is available in the upcoming modules.

This Question Mark provides comprehensive, context-sensitive Help information that was developed by the UNEP-GEF Project on

Biosafety. On all of the other pages of the BCH, it appears just below the Country Profiles feature to the right.

The ‘Country Profiles’ feature provides a drop down menu which allows BCH users to display a summary of all the records entered in

the BCH by a specific country.

The ‘Contact us’ link provides the complete contact details of the Secretariat including the mailing address, telephone and fax

numbers, email address and a link to the biosafety staff web page.

The ‘Site Map’ link provides a representation of the architecture of the BCH website.

CBD Policies on linking external websites, privacy of information, as well as a BCH disclaimer and copyright information can also be

obtained from these links.

Finally, by clicking on the CBD logo in the top banner, you will be linked to the Convention web pages.
