Dr. John P. Jacobi, OD, FCOVD, is the owner and primary practitioner of Suburban Eye Care. For over 20 years, he and his team of highly trained eye care professionals have been serving patients in the Livonia area. Dr. Jacobi is a Fellow of the College of Vision Development and the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists, a member of the Michigan and American Optometric Associations, and has served as President of the Optometric Institute and Clinic of Detroit. His dedication to patient care is shared by all team members at Suburban Eye Care.

Our doctors conduct yearly eye exams to ensure the health of your eyes. Through diagnostics, examination, review of your medical history and discussion, the doctor will prescribe solutions and counsel you to maximize your vision and prolong the health of your eyes. Our thorough exams are tailored to your needs. Lifestyle plays an important role in the health of your vision, as does genetics, prevention and early intervention.

We treat the visual side of learning. Vision is our primary method of obtaining information and consists of 17 visual skills, including how clearly we see. A Visual Perceptual Evaluation with Dr. Jacobi, a Board Certified Behavioral Optometrist, to assess all visual skills will determine if a vision related learning issue is interfering with learning. If so, an individualized treatment plan will be prescribed to create measurable gains for patients.

Low vision, usually caused from Macular Degeneration, is when vision loss interferes with doing everyday tasks and cannot be corrected with conventional glasses or medication. A patient suffering from this type of vision loss is typically frustrated and can feel defeated. Our compassion and patience will restore hope because we CAN help. Our robust program is results and goal oriented to achieve the best outcome for each patient.

The doctor’s findings allow our Opticians to tailor lenses to your needs and provide the same clear, crisp and comfortable vision you achieved during your exam. We are able to fabricate many lenses in our Optical Lab, meaning eyeglasses will be ready for custom fitting sooner.
