Inspiring People. Shaping the Future.
In keeping with the longstanding social commitment of its founder, Reinhard Mohn (1921-2009), the Bertelsmann Stiftung is dedicated to serving the common good. In terms of socioeconomic governance, we support representative democracy and a social market economy as the structural forms best able to ensure a cohesive society and the wellbeing of its citizens. Both forms depend on values we advocate: freedom, solidarity and goodwill.
Our goal is to ensure that our work has the greatest long-term social impact. In carrying out our projects, we focus on people and their needs and measure ourselves by the opportunities we provide them. We believe that people need and deserve the chance to participate in our globalized world; we therefore carry out worldwide searches for innovative ideas and effective approaches that increase those chances.
We concentrate our efforts on areas in which we have expertise: improving education, creating an economic system that is fair and efficient, promoting people-centered healthcare, empowering civil society, ensuring a viable cultural future and anchoring international understanding around the globe.
Both independent and politically nonpartisan, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is a private operating foundation and therefore initiates and executes its own projects.
With this brochure we want to provide you with an overview of our programs and current activities. Please visit our extensive website for more information, or feel free to contact us directly.
