About GPPS 2009 - Bermuda• The Global Public Policy Summit (GPPS) is a flagship event of
the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) - a consortium of over 70 Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry associations from economies around the world. It was formally GPPC.
• This international conference focuses on global policies affecting the ICT industry and is attended by over 300 senior executives, government officials and policy makers. One of the principal reasons for participating is that ICT companies gain an excellent opportunity to target their products and services at policy makers and business leaders while discussing issues of policy that effect business growth.
• Taking place once every two years beginning in 1999, the conference is hosted in a different country each time, with the leading ICT association organising the event. In November 2009, Bermuda will be coming to Bermuda with the Business Technology Division of the Chamber of Commerce as host.
• Prior to the main event Bermuda will welcome the IT companies from the Caribbean and Latin America to a pre-conference event to discuss the primary issues that are relevant to the islands.
Why in Bermuda 2009?• Ranked in top twenty E-Ready countries in the world by Economist
Magazine, Bermuda has used technology to strategic advantage.• One of the world’s highest broadband penetrations in homes, Bermuda
is positioned well to pioneer the next wave of technology.• One of the first countries in the world to introduce Electronic
Transactions Legislation, that enables businesses to conduct business remotely.
• Sophisticated and competitive telecommunications and technology environment with huge capacity and state of the art infrastructure.
• Bermuda business has used technology to its strategic advantage in the past with respect to growing international business.
• One of the first counties to roll out 3G Cellular and WiMax, Bermuda has some of the most mobile business people in the world from a technology point of view.
… and by engineered coincidence Bermuda celebrates its 400th Anniversary of settlement in 2009.
