The Department of Transport, Safety,Security and Liaison in Limpopo is callingfor the discontinuation of the branding ofminibuses with different adverts. TheDepartment is encouraging all publictransport operators to cooperate with theNational Transport Act 05 of 2009 undertransport operations’ Passengers TransportAct 1994. It says that operators mustcomply with the requirements of this Act.

“This regulation of 2006 September statesthat every minibus or midibus that operatesas a public transport the standard ofcompliance is that the minibus must bewhite in colour with a marking of a SouthAfrican Flag, name and address of theowner only,” said DepartmentalSpokesperson Kagiso Mootane.

This means that it mustnot distract the view of a driver,” sheadded.

The DA expressed deep concern, sayingthat the ANC in Limpopo is withholdingthe mayoral candidates list for all 27municipalities and in particular thosemunicipalities that were ravaged by recentviolent service delivery protests.

The party is concerned that the listreveals only the names of 10 mayoralcandidates for Limpopo which includes thecandidates for the 5 district municipalities.

DA Provincial Leader Jacques Smallesaid that the party believes that ANC wantto impose the names of mayors with ashort notice period, and not provide theelectorate a real opportunity to interrogatethe candidates and their record ofgovernment.

Lizzy Bapelathat mayors must be recalled due to poorservice delivery in their municipalities.Despite violent service delivery proteststhroughout the province demanding theheads of mayors, not a single mayor wasrecalled.

“This proves that ANC-run municipalitiesare more focused on self-interest and self-enrichment with impunity and defendingthe corrupt, rather than providing anhonest government. Where the DAgoverns, we publish the list of our mayoralcandidates well in advance,” said Smalle.

The DA urges the ANC to be transparentin the nomination of their mayoralcandidates and publish the list to allowLimpopo residents to interrogate thecandidate to prevent a repetition ofTshwane following the announcement ofThoko Dididza.

The BEAT’s attempts to obtain commentfrom the ANC Provincial Secretary NocksSeabi and provincial media liaison officerAluwani Netsianda failed, as they had notyet responded by the time of going topress.

EFF plans to root out ANC’sdomination in Bela-Bela

Lizzy Bapela Mabunda said this while responding to theEFF’s statements about taking over Bela-Belaand the region at large. He added that the EFFwill never be able to take over anything, noteven a ward.“People do not want to vote for people who

are arrogant, practice anarchy, and cannoteven stand for a debate. All the EFF does iscause scenes or war at gatherings and this isno time for such and they were not even thereduring the time for war. This is the time tolead people and the ANC will continue to leadas they have before.Their history tells that they do not know

what they are talking about when they saythey want to root out corruption. Their leader,Julius Malema was expelled for his corruptways while in the ANC because he is the onewho brought the corruption into the party, hence the expulsion. With less than two months left before the nation-wideelections on Wednesday, 3 August, The BEAT is forcedto clarify and adjust our policy regarding politicalletters. We make this decision because The BEAT is committedto being apolitical, and short before election season weare swamped with letters relating to political matters. We will, therefore, for the next two months, have to bestricter in the selection of letters. We will unfortunately not be able to place letters that:* Serve to highlight the election manifests or politicalaims of a specific political party* Introduce new political parties* Introduce candidates to the public* Aim to win votes or to dissuade members of thepublic from voting for other parties* Seek to cast suspicion on other candidatesPolitical parties are, however, more than welcome toplace advertisements in The BEAT introducing theirgoals, candidates, and policies to the community.A good goal for this would be a quarter pageadvertisement which costs R2 224 in black and whiteand R3 0004.80 in colour.Feel free to phone our head office at (014) 736 2723 orcontact any of our advertisement representatives forqueries about political advertisements.Factual letters which fall within the above guidelinesmay still be used.Letter writers should keep in mind, however, that lettersshould not be longer than 350 words, and that theeditorial staff reserves the right not to use letters.
